Book Mathematics of the Discrete Fourier Transform DFT

Download or read book Mathematics of the Discrete Fourier Transform DFT written by Julius O. Smith and published by Julius Smith. This book was released on 2008 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The DFT can be understood as a numerical approximation to the Fourier transform. However, the DFT has its own exact Fourier theory, and that is the focus of this book. The DFT is normally encountered as the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT)--a high-speed algorithm for computing the DFT. The FFT is used extensively in a wide range of digital signal processing applications, including spectrum analysis, high-speed convolution (linear filtering), filter banks, signal detection and estimation, system identification, audio compression (such as MPEG-II AAC), spectral modeling sound synthesis, and many others. In this book, certain topics in digital audio signal processing are introduced as example applications of the DFT"--Back cover

Book Pulse frequency modulation Telemetry

Download or read book Pulse frequency modulation Telemetry written by Robert W. Rochelle and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pulse-frequency modulation is an information encoding technique which has been used in a number of satellites and space probes. The word-error probability for PFM signals is found to be higher when contiguous unmatched filters are used in the detection process than when matched filters are used. The theory of group-coded binary sequences is derived by using a special type of correlation matrix. The experimental results obtained from the spectral analysis of satellite recordings perturbed with random noise are presented to illustrate the noise-immunity characteristic of pulse-frequency modulation.

Book Spectral Analysis of Voice modulated Fm Signal

Download or read book Spectral Analysis of Voice modulated Fm Signal written by Leo R Spogen (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigation concerns the calculation and measurement of the carrier and sideband spectrum of an electromagnetic wave when frequency modulated by a nonperiodic wave such as ordinary speech. The spectra for various deviation ratios were calculated and measured. Only the vowels and diphthongs were used for calculated spectra. The first three formant frequencies of the vowels and diphthongs used were corrected for their relative occurrence, relative time duration, and relative amplitude. The comparison of the calculated and experimental spectra indicates that the formant model of speech is valid for calculation of carrier power but is an over-simplification when applied to the frequency spectrum analysis of an FM signal. The experimental spectrum provides the carrier power relative to the unmodulated carrier power and required bandwidth estimations for narrowband voice-modulated FM. (Author).

Book Phase Locked and Frequency Feedback Systems

Download or read book Phase Locked and Frequency Feedback Systems written by Jacob Klapper and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phase-Locked and Frequency-Feedback Systems: Principles and Techniques presents the operating principles and methods of design of phase-locked and frequency-feedback systems. This book is divided into 10 chapters that provide step-by-step design procedures and graphical aids, with illustrations bearing on real problems experienced in these systems. This work specifically tackles the application of these systems as FM demodulators with lowered thresholds. Chapters 1 and 2 deal briefly with the elements of linear systems, feedback theory, and noise, providing the minimum background for the material presented in the remainder of the text. Chapter 3 describes the characteristics of the major components that comprise the loops and the performance of the conventional and multi-loop FM demodulators. Chapters 4 to 7 present the basic describing equations and design for the FM feedback (FMFB) and phase-locked loop (PLL). These chapters further illustrate step-by-step design procedures with performance characteristics for low-threshold angle demodulation using typical design examples. Chapter 8 highlights the design principles, which are extended to the design of advanced demodulators featuring demodulation thresholds lower than those of the simple PLL or FMFB. Chapter 9 focuses on digital FM demodulation and PLL applications other than FM demodulation. Lastly, Chapter 10 presents the methods of testing and evaluating loop performance. Undergraduate and graduate level students, as well as practicing engineers, will find this book invaluable.

Book Modulation Theory

Download or read book Modulation Theory written by Marcelo Sampaio de Alencar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-09-01 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, a considerable amount of effort has been devoted, both in industry and academia, towards the design, performance analysis and evaluation of modulation schemes to be used in wireless and optical networks, towards the development of the next and future generations of mobile cellular communication systems. Modulation Theory is intended to serve as a complementary textbook for courses dealing with Modulation Theory or Communication Systems, but also as a professional book, for engineers who need to update their knowledge in the communications area. The modulation aspects presented in the book use modern concepts of stochastic processes, such as autocorrelation and power spectrum density, which are novel for undergraduate texts or professional books, and provides a general approach for the theory, with real life results, applied to professional design. This text is suitable for the undergraduate as well as the initial graduate levels of Electrical Engineering courses, and is useful for the professional who wants to review or get acquainted with the a modern exposition of the modulation theory. The books covers signal representations for most known waveforms, Fourier analysis, and presents an introduction to Fourier transform and signal spectrum, including the concepts of convolution, autocorrelation and power spectral density, for deterministic signals. It introduces the concepts of probability, random variables and stochastic processes, including autocorrelation, cross-correlation, power spectral and cross-spectral densities, for random signals, and their applications to the analysis of linear systems. This chapter also includes the response of specific non-linear systems, such as power amplifiers. The book presents amplitude modulation with random signals, including analog and digital signals, and discusses performance evaluation methods, presents quadrature amplitude modulation using random signals. Several modulation schemes are discussed, including SSB, QAM, ISB, C-QUAM, QPSK and MSK. Their autocorrelation and power spectrum densities are computed. A thorough discussion on angle modulation with random modulating signals, along with frequency and phase modulation, and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing is provided. Their power spectrum densities are computed using the Wiener-Khintchin theorem.

Book Bandwidth and Spectra of Phase and Frequency modulated Waves

Download or read book Bandwidth and Spectra of Phase and Frequency modulated Waves written by Stanford University. Stanford Electronics Laboratories and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spectrum of a cosine angle-modulated by a Gaussian random process (GRP) of (almost) arbitrary spectrum is investigated. Such a GRP provides a convenient model for voice signals, TV signals, and other types of complex communication signals. A simple closed form expression for the bandwidth of the modulated signal in terms of the bandwidth of the modulating signal is found. A general expansion for the shape of the spectrum of the modulated cosine is derived. In addition to reducing, in certain limiting situations, to known results, this expansion provides a practical means of obtaining the spectrum in intermediate cases. Examples are presented showing the spectrum of a cosine modulated by (1) a lowpass GRP with rectangular spectrum, and (2) a bandpass GRP of Gaussian spectrum. (Author).
