Book Statistical Inference in Non Linear Models in Econometrics

Download or read book Statistical Inference in Non Linear Models in Econometrics written by Theertham Gangaram and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present book, Chapter-I is an introductory one. It gives general introduction about the nonlinear regression models. A brief review about the existing inferential procedures for nonlinear regression models has been give in Chapter-II. It contains various nonlinear methods, of estimation based on nonlinear least squares and maximum likelihood methods, besides the methods by using some numerical analysis procedures.Chapter-II and IV describe the specification and estimation of some important nonlinear production function models such as Cobb-Douglas, Constant Elasticity of Substitution (CES), Variable Elasticity of Substitution (VES) and Transcedental Logarithmic (Translog) Production functions. Some new Inferential procedures for certain nonlinear regression models have been proposed and developed in Chapter V. The directions for further research along with the conclusions have been presented in Chapter-VI. General selected references regarding nonlinear regression models have been documented under Bibliography.

Book Specification and Estimation of Multiple Output Production Functions

Download or read book Specification and Estimation of Multiple Output Production Functions written by G. Hasenkamp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is intended as a contribution to applied work in production theory by treating: a) The measurement problems involved whenever several outputs are jointly produced, and b) The (possible) econometric framework for estimating production function parameters whenever (relative) prices vary sufficiently over the observations. Thus, the "pure" theory of production, and the theory of non-linear regression is not treated in sufficient detail: for these topics we refer to the available literature~ for a comprehensive list of references we refer to Uebe (1975). Some years ago, papers by L. J. Lau and W. E. Diewert initiated my interest in duality within production theory, and then I started to appreciate R. W. Shephard's fundamental contribution to this topic. This monograph is a (minor) revision of a Ph. D. dissertation submitted to the Department of Economics, The University of Wisconsin, Madison, in August 1973. The Graduate School and the Social Systems Research Institute provided funds for the reported computer work, Lawrence R. Klein and Laurits R. Christensen provided data, and as a Graduate Student I received financial support in form of an University Fellowship~ all this is very much appreciated. With some nostalgia I think back to the enjoyable period of learning during the preparation of my diFosertation~ I appreciate the spirit within the department, and the guidance of my committee Arthur S. Goldberger, Dennis J. Aigner, and Laurits R. Christensen.

Book A Note on Numerical Estimation of Sato s Two Level Ces Production Function

Download or read book A Note on Numerical Estimation of Sato s Two Level Ces Production Function written by Sudhanshu K. Mishra and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper Sato's two-level CES production function has been estimated by nonlinear regression carried out through five different methods of optimization, namely, the Hooke-Jeeves Pattern Moves (HJPM), the Hooke-Jeeves-Quasi-Newton (HJQN), the Rosenbrock-Quasi-Newton (RQN), the Differential Evolution (DE) and the Repulsive Particle Swarm methods (RPS). The last two methods are particularly suited to optimization of extremely nonlinear (often multimodal) objective functions. While data may be containing outliers, the method of least squares has a clear disadvantage as it may be pulled by extremely small or large errors. The absolute deviation estimation of parameters is more suitable in such cases. This paper has made an attempt to estimation of parameters of Sato's two-level CES production function by minimizing the sum of absolute errors. While the HJPM and the HJQN perform poorly at minimizing the sum of absolute deviations, the RQN performs much better. The DE and the RPS perform very well in estimating the parameters. We also estimate the parameters of a production function in which the output is determined by capital, labour and energy. The model is in the family of the Linear exponentials (LINEX) type. To estimate this model, we use German Sector "Market-determined Services" data for the years 1960-1989. Using the same data, we also estimate Sato's function with constant as well as variable returns to scale. Estimation has been done by minimization of the absolute deviations. Minimization has been done by Particle Swarm and Differential Evolution methods. The models fit extremely well to the data.

It states the main aims of the study and source of data about different variables . Chapter-II gives a survey of the literature about all the existing alternative methods of estimation of CES production function. It clearly shows how considerable research has been reported on the estimation of CES function. Chapter-III proposes an alternative method of estimation of CES production function using Kmenta's (1967) approach to the production function. Chapter-IV deals with the empirical investigation of the present study. It includes the empirical results about the estimates of parameters of CES production function using a time series data. Several References are listed in separate title of Bibilography.
