Download or read book Landslides and Their Stabilization written by Ch. Veder and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written with the objective of providing geotechnical engineers with a practical guideline on how to cope with landslides as well as of acquaint ing them with the present state of physical fundamentals and scientific expla nations for the phenomenon of landslides. The book is based on my personal experiences, gathered over decades of work as geotechnical engineer on construction sites in Austria and many other parts of the world, which I also use in my lectures at the Technical University of Graz, Austria. The method of stabilizing lands lides by short-circuit conductors has been developed by myself and has been patented in Germany and Italy. A number of publications already exists (see References) on this method, and of course I also deal in this book with its theoretical and practical aspects. Here I want to thank my assistants, Messrs. J. Dalmatiner, K. Eigenberger, E. Garber, H. Kienberger, R. Pötscher, and W. Prodinger, for working with me on various projects and for assisting me in the drafting of some chapters of this book, Mr. A. Trippl for preparing the illustrations, and my wife for many a Sunday worked through with me.
Download or read book Landslides Theory Practice and Modelling written by S.P. Pradhan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-28 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, with contributions from international landslide experts, presents in-depth knowledge of theories, practices, and modern numerical techniques for landslide analysis. Landslides are a reoccurring problem across the world and need to be properly studied for their mitigation and control. Due to increased natural and anthropogenic activities, chances of landslide occurrence and associated hazards have increased. The book focuses on landslide dynamics, mechanisms and processes along with hazard mitigation using geo-engineering, structural, geophysical and numerical tools. The book contains a wealth of the latest information on all aspects of theory, practices and modelling tools and techniques involved in prediction, prevention, monitoring, mitigation and risk analysis of landslide hazards. This book will bring the reader up to date on the latest trends in landslide studies and will help planners, engineers, scientists and researchers working on landslide engineering.

Download or read book Slope Stability Analysis and Stabilization written by Y. M. Cheng and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-05-20 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Includes Recommendations for Analysis, Design Practice, Design Charts, Tables, and More Using a unified approach to address a medley of engineering and construction problems, Slope Stability Analysis and Stabilization: New Methods and Insight, Second Edition provides helpful practical advice and design resources for the practicing engineer. This text examines a range of current methods for the analysis and design of slopes, and details the limitations of both limit equilibrium and the finite element method in the assessment of the stability of a slope. It also introduces a variety of alternative approaches for overcoming numerical non-convergence and the location of critical failure surfaces in two-dimensional and three-dimensional cases. What’s New in the Second Edition: This latest edition builds on the concepts of the first edition and covers the case studies involved in slope stability analysis in greater detail. The book adds a chapter on the procedures involved in performing limit equilibrium analysis, as well as a chapter on the design and construction practice in Hong Kong. It includes more examples and illustrations on the distinct element of slope, the relation between limit equilibrium and plasticity theory, the fundamental connections between slope stability analysis and the bearing capacity problem, as well as the stability of the three-dimensional slope under patch load conditions. Addresses new concepts in three-dimensional stability analysis, finite element analysis, and the extension of slope stability problems to lateral earth pressure problems Offers a unified approach to engineering and construction problems, including slope stability, bearing capacity, and earth pressure behind retaining structures Emphasizes how to translate the conceptual design conceived in the design office into physical implementation on site in a holistic way Discusses problems that were discovered during the development of associated computer programs This text assesses the fundamental assumptions and limitations of stability analysis methods and computer modelling, and benefits students taking an elective course on slope stability, as well as geotechnical engineering professionals specializing in slope stability
