Book Empirical Evaluation Techniques in Computer Vision

Download or read book Empirical Evaluation Techniques in Computer Vision written by Kevin W. Bowyer and published by Wiley-IEEE Computer Society Press. This book was released on 1998-07-11 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Empirical Evaluation Techniques in Computer Vision presents methods that allow comparative assessment of algorithms and the accompanying benefits: places computer vision on solid experimental and scientific grounds, assists the development of engineering solutions to practical problems, allows accurate assessments of computer vision research, provides convincing evidence that computer vision research results in practical solutions. The chapters in this volume cover the three main paradigms for evaluating computer vision algorithms. The paradigms are: (1) evaluations that are independently administered, (2) evaluation of a set of algorithms by one research group, and (3) evaluation methods that feature ground truthing procedures as a major component.

Book Computer Vision ECCV 2002

Download or read book Computer Vision ECCV 2002 written by Anders Heyden and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-08-02 with total page 860 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Premiering in 1990 in Antibes, France, the European Conference on Computer Vision, ECCV, has been held biennially at venues all around Europe. These conferences have been very successful, making ECCV a major event to the computer vision community. ECCV 2002 was the seventh in the series. The privilege of organizing it was shared by three universities: The IT University of Copenhagen, the University of Copenhagen, and Lund University, with the conference venue in Copenhagen. These universities lie ̈ geographically close in the vivid Oresund region, which lies partly in Denmark and partly in Sweden, with the newly built bridge (opened summer 2000) crossing the sound that formerly divided the countries. We are very happy to report that this year’s conference attracted more papers than ever before, with around 600 submissions. Still, together with the conference board, we decided to keep the tradition of holding ECCV as a single track conference. Each paper was anonymously refereed by three different reviewers. For the nal selection, for the rst time for ECCV, a system with area chairs was used. These met with the program chairsinLundfortwodaysinFebruary2002toselectwhatbecame45oralpresentations and 181 posters. Also at this meeting the selection was made without knowledge of the authors’identity.

Book Integrating Graphics and Vision for Object Recognition

Download or read book Integrating Graphics and Vision for Object Recognition written by Mark R. Stevens and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrating Graphics and Vision for Object Recognition serves as a reference for electrical engineers and computer scientists researching computer vision or computer graphics. Computer graphics and computer vision can be viewed as different sides of the same coin. In graphics, algorithms are given knowledge about the world in the form of models, cameras, lighting, etc., and infer (or render) an image of a scene. In vision, the process is the exact opposite: algorithms are presented with an image, and infer (or interpret) the configuration of the world. This work focuses on using computer graphics to interpret camera images: using iterative rendering to predict what should be visible by the camera and then testing and refining that hypothesis. Features of the book include: Many illustrations to supplement the text; A novel approach to the integration of graphics and vision; Genetic algorithms for vision; Innovations in closed loop object recognition. Integrating Graphics and Vision for Object Recognition will be of interest to research scientists and practitioners working in fields related to the topic. It may also be used as an advanced-level graduate text.

Book Advances in the Assessment of Dietary Intake

Download or read book Advances in the Assessment of Dietary Intake written by Dale A. Schoeller and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-08-15 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diet is a major factor in health and disease. Controlled, long-term studies in humans are impractical, and investigators have utilized long-term epidemiological investigations to study the contributions of diet to the human condition. Such studies, while valuable, have often been limited by contradictory findings; a limitation secondary to systematic errors in traditional self-reported dietary assessment tools that limit the percentage of variances in diseases explained by diet. New approaches are available to help overcome these limitations, and Advances in the Assessment of Dietary Intake is focused on these advances in an effort to provide more accurate dietary data to understand human health. Chapters cover the benefits and limitations of traditional self-report tools; strategies for improving the validity of dietary recall and food recording methods; objective methods to assess food and nutrient intake; assessment of timing and meal patterns using glucose sensors; and physical activity patterns using validated accelerometers. Advances in the Assessment of Dietary Intake describes new avenues to investigate the role of diet in human health and serves as the most up-to-date reference and teaching tool for these methods that will improve the accuracy of dietary assessment and lay the ground work for future studies.
