Book Regional Labour Markets

Download or read book Regional Labour Markets written by Manfred M. Fischer and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1987 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although there is a substantial literature on labour market research, most of it ignores the spatial dimension of the labour market. A deeper theoretical and empirical understanding of spatial labour markets is a prerequisite for public policy aiming to promote more efficient spatial labour market coordinations and allocation. The current state of spatial labour market research is presented in this book, by addressing analytical issues, by identifying and evaluating current trends on urban and regional labour markets and by comparing the operations of spatial labour markets in various industrialised countries. The central focus of the volume is on a cross-national comparison of regional labour markets in 15 countries, based on a joint research effort of teams from these countries. It provides a wealth of information on developments, mechanisms, bottlenecks, policy issues and analytical research efforts in regional labour markets. In addition, various state-of-the-art reviews and new analytical advances (in the areas of e.g. search behaviour, competition, information modelling, etc.) in the field of spatial labour market analysis are presented.

Book Employability and Local Labour Markets

Download or read book Employability and Local Labour Markets written by Ronald W. McQuaid and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-18 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of employability has provided a foundation for much current labour market policy. It has also provided a useful framework for analyzing national and urban labour markets and related policies in a variety of different circumstances both for those in and out of work. The papers in this book help progress the concept of employability, demonstrating the importance of the geographic and spatial context, and showing its flexibility and usefulness as a basis for theory, analysis and policy. The papers are divided into two main sections: understanding the concept of employability lessons for labour market policy in changing labour markets. The chapters also provide general insights into many current labour market policy debates. As employability continues to be the foundation of many labour market policies, this volume considers the economic and geographical dimensions of employability in local labour market analysis and policy. This book was previously published as a special issue of the journal Urban Studies.

Secretariat and published by Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development ; [Washington, D.C. : OECD Publications and Information Centre. This book was released on 1986 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Report on four issues raised by the current debate on labour market flexibility: labour costs, external and internal labour market mobility, and concealed employment. Examines the argument that high labour costs and wage inflexibility have priced workers out of the labour market, concluding that while wages are important in explaining unemployment, other factors are also significant. Discusses external labour market mobility (job mobility, geographic mobility and occupational change) as a means of adjusting to structural change, but finds that the link between mobility trends and labour market efficiency is difficult to ascertain. Looks at enterprise level flexibility, covering numerical and functional flexibility of the work force, and, finally, considers the phenomenon of concealed employment as a perverse form of labour market flexibility.

Book Wages and Employment

Download or read book Wages and Employment written by Arijit Mukherjee and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is little doubt that significant income inequality persists across as well as within countries, and that wage differential exists between male and female workers across the industries and within establishments. The differences in earnings not only affect the well-being of the current generation but also have major long-term impacts on health, education and skill formation of future generations. Although an important goal of a country is to improve the well-being of their workers, the ways to achieve this goal may differ. This book presents recent research on labour economics, addressing issues such as gender wage gap, regional wage disparity, inter-and intra-industry wage inequality, the wage effects of immigration and the effects of wage negotiations in organisations. There are three parts in this book. Part A contains five chapters addressing the issue of gender wage gap. Part B also contains five chapters on regional studies to show the effects on wage, skill formation and the correlation between public and private sector employment. Part C focuses on wage negotiations in organisations. The book provides several important insights into many contemporary labour market issues.
