Book excerpt: Now the standardisation work of DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting)system is finished many broadcast organisations, network providersand receiver manufacturers in European countries and outside ofEurope (for example Canada and the Far East) will be installing DABbroadcast services as pilot projects or public services. Inaddition some value added services (data and video services) areunder development or have already started as pilot projects. The new digital broadcast system DAB distinguishes itself fromexisting conventional broadcast systems, and the various newinternational standards and related documents (from ITU-R, ISO/IEC,ETSI, EBU, EUREKA147, and others) are not readily available and aredifficult to read for users. Therefore it is essential that a wellstructured technical handbook should be available. The Second Edition of Digital Audio Broadcasting has beenfully updated with new sections and chapters added to reflect allthe latest developments and advances. Digital Audio Broadcasting: Provides a fully updated comprehensive overview of DAB Covers international standards, applications and othertechnical issues Combines the expertise of leading researchers in the field ofDAB Now covers such new areas as: IP-Tunneling via DAB; ElectronicProgramme Guide for DAB; and Metadata A comprehensive overview of DAB specifically written forplanning and system engineers, developers for professional anddomestic equipment manufacturers, service providers, as well aspostgraduate students and lecturers in communicationstechnology.

Download or read book Micro Assembly Technologies and Applications written by Sandra Koelemeijer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-03-12 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Micro-assembly is a key enabling technology for cost effective manufacture of new generations of complex micro products. It is also a critical technology for retaining mdustrial capabilities in high labour cost areas such as Europe since up to 80% of the production cost in some industries is attributed directly to assembly processes. With the continuous trend for product miniaturisation, the scientific and technologi cal developments in micro-assembly are expected to have a significant long-term economic, demographic and social impact. A distinctive feature of the process is that surface forces are often dominant over gravity forces, which determines a number of specific technical challenges. Critical areas which are currently being addressed include development of assembly systems with high positional accuracy, micro gripping methods that take into ac count the adhesive surface forces, high precision micro-feeding techniques and mi cro-joining processes. Micro-assembly has developed rapidly over the last few years and all the pre dictions are that it will remain a critical technology for high value products in a number of key sectors such as healthcare, communications, defence and aerospace. The key challenge is to match the significant technological developments with a new generation of micro products that will establish firmly micro-assembly as a core manufacturing process.

Download or read book Micromachined Thin Film Sensors for SOI CMOS Co Integration written by Jean Laconte and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Co-integration of sensors with their associated electronics on a single silicon chip may provide many significant benefits regarding performance, reliability, miniaturization and process simplicity without significantly increasing the total cost. Micromachined Thin-Film Sensors for SOI-CMOS Co-integration covers the challenges and interests and demonstrates the successful co-integration of gas-flow sensors on dielectric membrane, with their associated electronics, in CMOS-SOI technology. We firstly investigate the extraction of residual stress in thin layers and in their stacking and the release, in post-processing, of a 1 μm-thick robust and flat dielectric multilayered membrane using Tetramethyl Ammonium Hydroxide (TMAH) silicon micromachining solution. The optimization of its selectivity towards aluminum is largely demonstrated. The second part focuses on sensors design and characteristics. A novel loop-shape polysilicon microheater is designed and built in a CMOS-SOI standard process. High thermal uniformity, low power consumption and high working temperature are confirmed by extensive measurements. The additional gas flow sensing layers are judiciously chosen and implemented. Measurements in the presence of a nitrogen flow and gas reveal fair sensitivity on a large flow velocity range as well as good response to many gases. Finally, MOS transistors suspended on released dielectric membranes are presented and fully characterized as a concluding demonstrator of the co-integration in SOI technology.
