Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ISSAC'88 is the thirteenth conference in a sequence of international events started in 1966 thanks to the then established ACM Special Interest Group on Symbolic and Algebraic Manipulation (SIGSAM). For the first time the two annual conferences "International Symposium on Symbolic and Algebraic Computation" (ISSAC) and "International Conference on Applied Algebra, Algebraic Algorithms and Error-Correcting Codes" (AAECC) have taken place as a Joint Conference in Rome, July 4-8, 1988. Twelve invited papers on subjects of common interest for the two conferences are included in the proceedings and divided between this volume and the preceding volume of Lecture Notes in Computer Science which is devoted to AAECC-6. This book contains contributions on the following topics: Symbolic, Algebraic and Analytical Algorithms, Automatic Theorem Proving, Automatic Programming, Computational Geometry, Problem Representation and Solution, Languages and Systems for Symbolic Computation, Applications to Sciences, Engineering and Education.

Book Effective Methods in Algebraic Geometry

Download or read book Effective Methods in Algebraic Geometry written by T. Mora and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The symposium "MEGA-90 - Effective Methods in Algebraic Geome try" was held in Castiglioncello (Livorno, Italy) in April 17-211990. The themes - we quote from the "Call for papers" - were the fol lowing: - Effective methods and complexity issues in commutative algebra, pro jective geometry, real geometry, algebraic number theory - Algebraic geometric methods in algebraic computing Contributions in related fields (computational aspects of group theory, differential algebra and geometry, algebraic and differential topology, etc.) were also welcome. The origin and the motivation of such a meeting, that is supposed to be the first of a series, deserves to be explained. The subject - the theory and the practice of computation in alge braic geometry and related domains from the mathematical viewpoin- has been one of the themes of the symposia organized by SIGSAM (the Special Interest Group for Symbolic and Algebraic Manipulation of the Association for Computing Machinery), SAME (Symbolic and Algebraic Manipulation in Europe), and AAECC (the semantics of the name is vary ing; an average meaning is "Applied Algebra and Error Correcting Codes").

Book 2004 Rumelhart Prize Special Issue Honoring John R Anderson

Download or read book 2004 Rumelhart Prize Special Issue Honoring John R Anderson written by Robert Goldstone and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-11-19 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This special issue of Cognitive Science honors the research and mentorship contributions of Dr. John R. Anderson, the 2004 David E. Rumelhart Prize recipient whose research has provided the field of cognitive psychology with comprehensive and integrative theories, and has had a practical impact on educational practice in the classroom and on student achievement in learning mathematics. The David E. Rumelhart Prize is awarded annually to an individual or collaborative team making a significant contemporary contribution to the formal analysis of human cognition. For three decades, Dr. Anderson has been engaged in a vigorous research program with the goal of developing a computational theory of mind. The diverse articles in this issue feature work by Dr. Anderson's students, colleagues, and collaborators, illustrating that it is possible to impact education with rigorous stimulation of human cognition.

Download or read book Modern Computer Algebra written by Joachim von zur Gathen and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-04-25 with total page 811 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer algebra systems are now ubiquitous in all areas of science and engineering. This highly successful textbook, widely regarded as the 'bible of computer algebra', gives a thorough introduction to the algorithmic basis of the mathematical engine in computer algebra systems. Designed to accompany one- or two-semester courses for advanced undergraduate or graduate students in computer science or mathematics, its comprehensiveness and reliability has also made it an essential reference for professionals in the area. Special features include: detailed study of algorithms including time analysis; implementation reports on several topics; complete proofs of the mathematical underpinnings; and a wide variety of applications (among others, in chemistry, coding theory, cryptography, computational logic, and the design of calendars and musical scales). A great deal of historical information and illustration enlivens the text. In this third edition, errors have been corrected and much of the Fast Euclidean Algorithm chapter has been renovated.
