Download or read book Advances in Artificial Intelligence written by Eleni Stroulia and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-29 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AI 2001 is the 14th in the series of Arti cial Intelligence conferences sponsored by the Canadian Society for Computational Studies of Intelligence/Soci et e - nadienne pour l’ etude de l’intelligence par ordinateur. As was the case last year too, the conference is being held in conjunction with the annual conferences of two other Canadian societies, Graphics Interface (GI 2001) and Vision Int- face (VI 2001). We believe that the overall experience will be enriched by this conjunction of conferences. This year is the \silver anniversary" of the conference: the rst Canadian AI conference was held in 1976 at UBC. During its lifetime, it has attracted Canadian and international papers of high quality from a variety of AI research areas. All papers submitted to the conference received at least three indep- dent reviews. Approximately one third were accepted for plenary presentation at the conference. The best paper of the conference will be invited to appear in Computational Intelligence.
Download or read book Parallel Text Processing written by Jean Véronis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: l This book evolved from the ARCADE evaluation exercise that started in 1995. The project's goal is to evaluate alignment systems for parallel texts, i. e. , texts accompanied by their translation. Thirteen teams from various places around the world have participated so far and for the first time, some ten to fifteen years after the first alignment techniques were designed, the community has been able to get a clear picture of the behaviour of alignment systems. Several chapters in this book describe the details of competing systems, and the last chapter is devoted to the description of the evaluation protocol and results. The remaining chapters were especially commissioned from researchers who have been major figures in the field in recent years, in an attempt to address a wide range of topics that describe the state of the art in parallel text processing and use. As I recalled in the introduction, the Rosetta stone won eternal fame as the prototype of parallel texts, but such texts are probably almost as old as the invention of writing. Nowadays, parallel texts are electronic, and they are be coming an increasingly important resource for building the natural language processing tools needed in the "multilingual information society" that is cur rently emerging at an incredible speed. Applications are numerous, and they are expanding every day: multilingual lexicography and terminology, machine and human translation, cross-language information retrieval, language learning, etc.

Download or read book Foundations of Computational Intelligence written by Aboul-Ella Hassanien and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-05-02 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foundations of Computational Intelligence Volume 1: Learning and Approximation: Theoretical Foundations and Applications Learning methods and approximation algorithms are fundamental tools that deal with computationally hard problems and problems in which the input is gradually disclosed over time. Both kinds of problems have a large number of applications arising from a variety of fields, such as algorithmic game theory, approximation classes, coloring and partitioning, competitive analysis, computational finance, cuts and connectivity, inapproximability results, mechanism design, network design, packing and covering, paradigms for design and analysis of approxi- tion and online algorithms, randomization techniques, real-world applications, scheduling problems and so on. The past years have witnessed a large number of interesting applications using various techniques of Computational Intelligence such as rough sets, connectionist learning; fuzzy logic; evolutionary computing; artificial immune systems; swarm intelligence; reinforcement learning, intelligent multimedia processing etc. . In spite of numerous successful applications of C- putational Intelligence in business and industry, it is sometimes difficult to explain the performance of these techniques and algorithms from a theoretical perspective. Therefore, we encouraged authors to present original ideas dealing with the inc- poration of different mechanisms of Computational Intelligent dealing with Lea- ing and Approximation algorithms and underlying processes. This edited volume comprises 15 chapters, including an overview chapter, which provides an up-to-date and state-of-the art research on the application of Computational Intelligence for learning and approximation.
