Book Static Multiple load Measurement Technique as Utilized in the Naval Surface Weapons Center s Wind Tunnels

Download or read book Static Multiple load Measurement Technique as Utilized in the Naval Surface Weapons Center s Wind Tunnels written by John E. Holmes and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the basic scheme used in the Naval Surface Weapons Center's wind tunnels for measuring static forces and moments on wind-tunnel models. The general fundamentals used in the design of balances are explained as well as how the calibrations are conducted and how the data are reduced. The basic technique consists of using multiple combined loads in the calibration of the balance and in using an iterative approach to reduce the balance electrical output to aerodynamic loads.

Book Design of a Miniature Watercooled Internal Strain Gage Wind Tunnel Balance

Download or read book Design of a Miniature Watercooled Internal Strain Gage Wind Tunnel Balance written by Eugene V. Horanoff and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design of a sensitive, miniature 3-component watercooled strain gage balance capable of operating in a high temperature environment is described. This balance has been used to measure axial force, normal force and pitching moment in the U.S. Naval Ordnance Laboratory's Hypersonic Research Tunnel at Mach 17 and a stagnation temperature of 4000 F. Ten degree included angle cone models with different nose radii were tested. The axial and pitch forces were on the order of .005 pounds. This report describes the balance used in obtaining the data and the performance of the balance itself. Typical curves have been shown of the axial and pitch forces and pitching moment recorded by the balance for evaluation purposes. (Author).

Book Study of Six Component Internal Strain Gage Balances for Use in the HIRT Facility

Download or read book Study of Six Component Internal Strain Gage Balances for Use in the HIRT Facility written by M. L. Kuszewski and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for a High Reynolds Number Transonic Wind Tunnel (HIRT) has been recognized throughout the industry for some years. The proposed HIRT facility at Arnold Engineering Development Center will provide a much needed tool for the study of phenomena sensitive to Reynolds number. The usefulness of the HIRT facility will be largely influenced by the ability of industry to design and build wind-tunnel models and internal strain gage balances capable of operating within the severe environment of the tunnel. The balance concept selected for this study has been used for the past ten years at General Dynamics and is known as a two-shell balance. Information presented is based on experience together with the results of experimental work in progress at General Dynamics.

Download or read book Suggested Procedures for Installing Strain Gauges on Langley Research Center Wind Tunnel Balances Custom Force Measuring Transducers Metallic and Composite Structural Test Articles written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-06-11 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The character of force and strain measurement testing at LaRC is such that the types of strain gauge installations, the materials upon which the strain gauges are applied, and the test environments encountered, require many varied approaches. In 1997, a NASA Technical Memorandum (NASA TM 110327) was generated to provide the strain gauge application specialist with a listing of recommended procedures for strain gauging various transducers and test articles at LaRC. The technical memorandum offered here is an effort to keep the strain gauge user informed of new technological enhancements in strain-gauging methodology while preserving the strain-gauging guidelines set forth in the 1997 TM. This document provides detailed recommendations for strain gauging LaRC-designed balances and custom transducers, composite materials, cryogenic and high-temperature test articles, and selected non-typical or unique materials or test conditions. Additionally, one section offers details for installing Bragg-Grating type fiber-optic strain sensors for non-typical test scenarios.Moore, Thomas C., Sr.Langley Research CenterSTRAIN MEASUREMENT; STRAIN GAGES; FIBER OPTICS; HIGH TEMPERATURE TESTS; COMPOSITE MATERIALS; BRAGG GRATINGS; TRANSDUCERS; WIND TUNNEL APPARATUS
