Download or read book Identities Across Media and Modes written by Giuliana Garzone and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recognition that identity is mutable, multi-layered and subject to multiple modes of construction and de-construction has contributed to problematizing the issues associated with its representation in discourse, which has recently been attracting increasing attention in different disciplinary areas. Identity representation is the main focus of this volume, which analyses instances of multimedia and multimodal communication to the public at large for commercial, informative, political or cultural purposes. In particular, it examines the impact of the increasingly sophisticated forms of expression made available by the evolution of communication technologies, especially in computer-mediated or web-based settings, but also in more traditional media (press, cinema, TV). The basic assumption shared by all contributors is that communication is the locus where identities, either collective, social or individual, are deliberately constructed and negotiated. In their variety of topics and approaches, the studies collected in this volume testify to the criticality of representing personal, professional and organizational identities through the new media, as their ability to reach a virtually unlimited audience amplifies the potential political, cultural and economic impact of discursive identity constructions. They also confirm that new highly sophisticated media can forge identities well beyond the simply iconic or textual representation, generating deeply interconnected webs of meaning capable of occupying an expanding - and adaptable - discursive space.
Download or read book Public Space and an Interdisciplinary Approach to Design written by Ettore Vadini and published by Edizioni Nuova Cultura. This book was released on 2018-02-28 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The crisis of contemporary public space is a question of interest to all architects. The economic, social and cultural crisis, in particular affecting the entire European continent, is clearly and originally reflected in the public spaces of our cities, more and more of which are now considered “heritage”. Public space and the public realm, due to their original facets, are once again a theme of interest for architects, but also for philosophers, sociologist and anthropologists (J. Habermas, D. Innerarity, Z. Bauman, M. Augé), as complex “spaces” to be decomposed. Hence, a few questions: Does the analysis of public space and an approach to design, in a reality that considers a different concept of “public” than that of the pat century comport a new way of looking? A new urban-architectural nomenclature? An interdisciplinary approach to design? The general situation described in this publication, in various authors from different disciplinary backgrounds, clearly expresses the tangible need to provide (or provide once again) positive responses to different questions before proceeding with the design – or analysis – of contemporary public space.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of seemingly unrelated sensations, connected by a thread fluctuating between prose and poetry. ”Meri-loquizing in a toyteque” is a collection of pictures taken with the pen: a little trip into the complexity of the simplest feelings. In this work, the author wants to emphasize a series of sensations seemingly unrelated, connected by a thread oscillating between prose and poetry. ”Meri-loquizing in a toyteque” is a collection of pictures taken with the pen. Right from the title it is clear the presence of a number of puns attempting to explain the complexity of the simplest feelings. The Toyteque is an imaginary place where you entertain illusions with thought games. ”Poems” and ”Meriloquies” alternate in this place to breathe life into a little trip ending with a story in which is revealed (who knows? To the reader the freedom to decide) perhaps the main character of each of those pictures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doors of the Past is a memoir which aims to analyze the narrator’s attraction towards the American dream and the United States, her native country left as a child. Born in the Bronx in an Italian family, she grew up in a rural setting in Irpinia where her father, during a vacation, in a rapture of nostalgia, decided to come back after a seven year stay in New York. The author explores her family history of migration; her deep intergenerational relationships with north America; her great fascination towards New England, where part of her family moved tracing a new interesting life path and where she had dreamt to move after taking her university degree. Thanks to the English language aspects of Italianità, that have always caused her strong feelings of discomfort and rejection, are deeply investigated. If you were born in a place and grow up in another one, you miss the language and who knows what else!
Download or read book Testi brevi di accompagnamento Linguistica semiotica traduzione written by Donella Antelmi and published by Universitas Studiorum. This book was released on 2019-04-15 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Strategies of Adaptation in Tourist Communication written by Gudrun Held and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in this volume study the relationship between language use and the concept of the “tourist gaze” through a range of communicative practices from different cultures and languages. From a pragmatic perspective, the authors investigate how language constantly adapts to contextual constraints which affect tourism discourse as a strategic meaning-making process that turns insignificant places into desirable tourist destinations. The case studies draw on both, in situ interactions with visitors, such as guided tours and counter information, old and new mediatized genres, i.e. guide books, travelogues, print advertising as well as TV-commercials, service web-sites and apps. Despite the diversity of data, one of the common findings in the volume is that staging the sensory ‘lived’ tourist experience is the lynchpin of all communicative practices. Hence, the use of tourism language reveals itself as the mirror of how ‘people on the move’ continuously enact as ‘tourists’ and ‘places’ are constructed as must-see ‘sights’.
