Book excerpt: IN selecting these Spanish Tales for Beginners, three objects have been kept in view: (1) that they be good literature, (2) that they portray modern Spanish life, and (3) that they be interesting and not too difficult in language and thought. Some of the stories do not conform to all three rules, -the first two, for instance, do not portray modern Spanish life; but I hope that most of them will be found to conform fully. A few short lyric poems have also been included, since poetry forms an integral part of literature. Verse, moreover, is better for oral work and memorizing than prose. Spain has a rich and varied literature, from which other nations have freely drawn, -a literature that gives true expression to the life and aspirations of the Spanish people. The selections in this volume are taken from literary works that have been written in the past fifty or sixty years, and although they are inferior in some respects to the great master-pieces of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, I believe that they have literary excellence, and they have, besides, the advantage of being written in the language of today and of describing present-day life. It is my greatest wish that this volume may awaken the students' interest in the civilization of Spain, and that it may serve as an introduction to the study of Spanish literature. The integrity of the texts has been preserved so far as the exigencies of a beginners' book permit, but the following changes have been made: (1) Some words or passages have been omitted, chiefly in the earlier stories. The parts thus omitted are, for the most part, digressions or uninteresting descriptive passages. Omissions have generally been marked by four suspensive points, or by three at the beginning of a story. Except at the beginning of a story, three suspensive points form a part of the punctuation of the several authors. (2) The orthography has been made to conform to that now prescribed by the Royal Spanish Academy. (3) In the earlier stories, le has been substituted for the feminine indirect object-pronoun la, and los for the masculine plural direct object-pronoun les.

Book Spanish Short Stories

Download or read book Spanish Short Stories written by Sergio Rodriguez and published by White Flower Publishing. This book was released on 2019-11-25 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wanted to learn Spanish and have fun at the same time? Most of the time, teaching books are boring. They always have the same kind of format: Two (sometimes more) people talking about where the library is, or where to find Juan. That's boring, and to be honest, it's not a great way to learn the language (not to mention that they don't always talk about things that you might encounter in your daily life, for example, a judgmental ghost, being the last man on Earth, or maybe find that the love of your life has been stolen). But in this book, I will give you 20 short stories that will range from science fiction to romance, everything in between and sometimes even more. These stories will give you an entire picture of the Spanish language, and how to appreciate the subtlety of the language. The Spanish language is rich, full of small differences between the different countries. Things that might be one way in Argentina might be different in Spain or Mexico. But don't worry, with this book, you will have a firm grasp on the language, and you will be able to understand and have a conversation with any Spanish speaker. After each story, there will be a questionnaire section where you will answer questions about the stories in Spanish. I really suggest to grab a blank page, and write down the answers, or the small assignments that you will be given (don't worry, they won't be long!). Remember to write them in Spanish, so you can practice and use the language. Also, in this section, you will find grammar and fun facts not just from the stories themselves, but from the inspirations behind them, and facts about living in a Spanish country. I hope you like them. All these stories are written from my heart, and I deeply hope that you will find them funny, mysterious, romantic, or at least entertaining. That's my goal as a writer, and I hope you enjoy your time reading (and learning!) Get your copy now!

Book Spanish Short Stories for Beginners

Download or read book Spanish Short Stories for Beginners written by Mariana Ferrer and published by Learn Spanish with Stories. This book was released on 2016-03-24 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this Spanish Short Stories for Beginners book is to help you interiorize new Spanish vocabulary so that you can learn Spanish by reading much faster. The stories you'll find here are challenging enough so that you can keep learning and absorbing new words and grammatical structures in Spanish naturally as you read. One common mistake people make when reading is to engage in intensive reading, the kind of reading that tries to understand every single word which could rapidly become frustrating. That is very useful when at school, but not so good if you are trying to read a story and at the same having to stop all the time to look up words on the dictionary So the main idea is that you engage in EXTENSIVE READING, the kind of reading that focuses in reading material until the vocabulary sounds so familiar that you can grasp the story even though there might be a word here and there that you don't quite well understand. Your brain is catching up on new vocabulary on autopilot, the more associations you let your brain make the better your Spanish will become. So don't let a few words to bother you, keep reading, you can always come back to those words later if you need to. We have provided some translations along the story so that reading can have a more pleasant experience. Keep reading and try to guess the meaning of new vocabulary based on the context of the story and, if you need to, you'll find some words in parenthesis that will help you make the learning process faster and more enjoyable. Without thinking much of it you'll develop a sense for what the meaning of any given word is that you'll be gladly surprised.
