This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spanish Idioms With Their English Equivalents, Embracing Nearly Ten Thousand Phrases Proverbs. Don Quixote, in several editions and translations (including the late translation with critical list of proverbs by John Ormsby, London, and Gil Blas have been carefully studied; and notes of idioms were made in reading many other works finally, memoranda were kept of such as occurred in conversation during a period of two years. These means cannot be exhaustive, but we believe that few common, important, or valuable phrases have escaped us. In rendering the idioms into English, the first object was to make their meaning intelligible; the second. To give equivalent English idioms where such could be found: in many cases, however, the pithiness of the original is best retained by a simple translation. Renderings found in previous publications were adopted only when it seemed impossible to improve upon them, and it has been found necessary to correct many downright errors of translation. Our thanks are due to Commander Henry Glass, of the United States Navy, for examining and improving the translations of the nautical phrases. Download or read book Literary Dollars and Social Sense written by Ronald J. Zboray and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prior to the Civil War, publishing in America underwent a transformation from a genteel artisan trade supported by civic patronage and religious groups to a thriving, cut-throat national industry propelled by profit. Literary Dollars and Social Sense represents an important chapter in the historical experience of print culture, it illuminates the phenomenon of amateur writing and delineates the access points of the emerging mass market for print for distributors consumers and writers. It challenges the conventional assumptions that the literary public had little trouble embracing the new literary marketing that emerged at mid-century. The book uncover the tensions that author's faced between literature's role in the traditional moral economy and the lure of literary dollars for personal gain and fame. This book marks an important example in how scholars understand and conduct research in American literature.

Book excerpt: "Ursula K. Le Guin, a student of the Tao Te Ching for more than fifty years, offers her own thoughtful rendering of the Taoist scripture. She has consulted the literal translations and worked with the scholar J. P. Seaton to develop a version that lets the ancient text speak in a fresh way to modern people, while remaining faithful to the original Chinese. This rendition reveals the Tao Te Ching's immediate relevance and power, its depth and refreshing humor, illustrating better than ever before why it has been so loved for more than 2,500 years.
