Download or read book SPANISH GCSE REVISION ENVIRONMENT HEALTH CAREER Answer Booklet written by Gianfranco Conti and published by Language Gym - Sentence Builder Books. This book was released on 2022-01-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is meant as a revision resource for GCSE Spanish. It can be used independently by students as well as for classroom practice. It contains 12 units which focus mainly on the themes of environment, health and career. Gianfranco Conti, Ronan Jezequel & Dylan Viñales Edited by Jaume Llorens, Paloma Lozano García & Inés Glowacka Units start with a knowledge organiser, recapping the the target sentence patterns and lexical items, a series of receptive vocabulary building activities; a set of narrow reading texts and activities; a set of translation tasks. The tasks are graded in order to pose an increasingly demanding but manageable cognitive load and challenge and are based on Dr Conti's P.I.P.O. framework: - Pre-reading tasks (activation of prior knowledge & pre-teaching) - In-reading tasks (intensive exploitation of tasks) - Post-reading tasks (consolidation) - Output (pushed-output tasks) Consistent with Dr Conti's E.P.I. approach, each of the 12 units in the book provide extensive recycling of the target lexical items both within each unit and throughout the book, across all the dimensions of receptive and productive processing, i.e.: orthography (single letters and syllables), lexis (both words and chunks), grammar/syntax (with much emphasis on functional and positional processing), meaning and discourse. The recycling occurs through input-flooding and forced retrieval through a wide range of engaging, tried and tested, classic Conti tasks (more than 20 per unit). These include student favourites such as slalom writing, faulty translation, spot the missing detail, sentence puzzles, etc. Please note that both The Language Gym and SentenceBuilders.com websites are ideal supplements to this book. Both websites recycle every single lexical and structural item found in this book many times over via selfmarking vocabulary and reading workouts, in addition to engaging and fun games and a powerful verb trainer.

Book GCSE Spanish Revision Quickies Environment health career

Download or read book GCSE Spanish Revision Quickies Environment health career written by Dr Gianfranco Conti and published by . This book was released on 2023-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This resource is intended for GCSE exam revision with a focus on the consolidation of high-frequency and high-surrender-value words and lexical chunks. Since the content closely matches the vocabulary included in our Spanish GCSE Revision Workouts, "Environment, Health & Career" the two books should be used together for best results. Consistent with Dr Conti's E.P.I. approach, the design of the 'quickies' is based on the key principle that durable vocabulary learning is more likely to occur when lexical items are processed deeply, repeatedly and at every level of grain, i.e. meaning, syntax, lexicogrammar, orthography. Accordingly, each quickie recycles the key vocabulary several times over; builds word associations; elicits deeper level of cognitive investment on the part of the learners and includes tasks which involve semantic processing and others which involve a focus on collocations, colligations, grammar and spelling. In order to cater for differentiated learning, we have included two sets of quickies per unit: a foundation-level set and a higher-level set, the latter including more challenging vocabulary and tasks. Each unit ends with a productive retrievalpractice assessment which may be used to test summatively the uptake of the vocabulary practiced in each unit or merely as an extra revision tool. The revision quickie's format has been tried and tested for years, and is based on the huge success of Dr Gianfranco Conti's GCSE French and Spanish revision quickies, the most downloaded language learning resources of all times on www.tes.com. Please note that both The Language Gym and SentenceBuilders.com websites are ideal supplements to this booklet. Both websites recycle every single lexical and structural item found in this book many times over via self-marking vocabulary and reading workouts, in addition to engaging and fun games and a powerful verb trainer.

Book Spanish Sentence Builders A Lexicogrammar Approach

Download or read book Spanish Sentence Builders A Lexicogrammar Approach written by Dylan Viñales and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-05 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the newly updated SECOND EDITION! This version has been fully re-checked for accuracy and re-formatted to make it even more user-friendly, following feedback after a full year of classroom use by thousands of teachers across the world. Spanish Sentence Builders is a workbook aimed at beginner to pre-intermediate students co-authored by two modern languages educators with over 40 years of extensive classroom experience between the two, both in the UK and internationally. This 'no-frills' book contains 19 units of work on very popular themes, jam-packed with graded vocabulary-building, reading, translation, retrieval practice and writing activities. Key vocabulary, lexical patterns and structures are recycled and interleaved throughout. Each unit includes: 1) A sentence builder modelling the target constructions; 2) A set of vocabulary building activities; 3) A set of narrow reading texts exploited through a range of tasks focusing on both the meaning and structural levels of the text; 4) A set of retrieval-practice translation tasks; 5) A set of writing tasks targeting essential micro-skills such as spelling, lexical retrieval, syntax, editing and communication of meaning. Based on the Extensive Processing Instruction (E.P.I.) principle that learners learn best from comprehensible and highly patterned input flooded with the target linguistic features, the authors have carefully designed each and every text and activity to enable the student to process and produce each item many times over. This occurs throughout each unit of work as well as in smaller grammar, vocabulary and question-skills micro-units located at regular intervals in the book, which aim at reinforcing the understanding and retention of the target grammar, vocabulary and question patterns.

Download or read book Affluence and Freedom written by Pierre Charbonnier and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-06-22 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this pathbreaking book, Pierre Charbonnier opens up a new intellectual terrain: an environmental history of political ideas. His aim is not to locate the seeds of ecological thought in the history of political ideas as others have done, but rather to show that all political ideas, whether or not they endorse ecological ideals, are informed by a certain conception of our relationship to the Earth and to our environment. The fundamental political categories of modernity were founded on the idea that we could improve on nature, that we could exert a decisive victory over its excesses and claim unlimited access to earthly resources. In this way, modern thinkers imagined a political society of free individuals, equal and prosperous, alongside the development of industry geared towards progress and liberated from the Earth’s shackles. Yet this pact between democracy and growth has now been called into question by climate change and the environmental crisis. It is therefore our duty today to rethink political emancipation, bearing in mind that this can no longer draw on the prospect of infinite growth promised by industrial capitalism. Ecology must draw on the power harnessed by nineteenth-century socialism to respond to the massive impact of industrialization, but it must also rethink the imperative to offer protection to society by taking account of the solidarity of social groups and their conditions in a world transformed by climate change. This timely and original work of social and political theory will be of interest to a wide readership in politics, sociology, environmental studies and the social sciences and humanities generally.

Book French Listening Sentence Builders STUDENT BOOK

Download or read book French Listening Sentence Builders STUDENT BOOK written by Dylan Viñales and published by . This book was released on 2021-04-04 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The STUDENT Book This booklet contains exercises for students to fill in . The French Listening Booklet matches to the minutest details the content of the 19 units included in the best-selling workbook for beginner-to-pre-intermediate learners "French sentence builders", by the same authors. For best results, the two books should be used together. This book fully implements Dr Conti's popular approach to listening-skills instruction, L.A.M. (aka Listening-As-Modelling), laid out in his seminal work: "Breaking the Sound Barrier: Teaching Learners how to Listen" (Conti and Smith, 2019). L.A.M. is based on the concept that listening instruction should train students in the mastery of the key micro-listening skills identified by cognitive psychologists. Each unit contains around 13 listening tasks, which provide continuous and extensive recycling of the target constructions and vocabulary items and address the development of the key listening micro-skills. The tasks include engaging and tested Conti classics such as: "Spot the intruder", "Missing details", "Faulty transcript", "Break the flow", "Faulty translation", "Gapped translation" and "Listening slalom", alongside more traditional listening comprehension tasks.

Book China Goes Green

Download or read book China Goes Green written by Yifei Li and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-09-01 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it mean for the future of the planet when one of the world’s most durable authoritarian governance systems pursues “ecological civilization”? Despite its staggering pollution and colossal appetite for resources, China exemplifies a model of state-led environmentalism which concentrates decisive political, economic, and epistemic power under centralized leadership. On the face of it, China seems to embody hope for a radical new approach to environmental governance. In this thought-provoking book, Yifei Li and Judith Shapiro probe the concrete mechanisms of China’s coercive environmentalism to show how ‘going green’ helps the state to further other agendas such as citizen surveillance and geopolitical influence. Through top-down initiatives, regulations, and campaigns to mitigate pollution and environmental degradation, the Chinese authorities also promote control over the behavior of individuals and enterprises, pacification of borderlands, and expansion of Chinese power and influence along the Belt and Road and even into the global commons. Given the limited time that remains to mitigate climate change and protect millions of species from extinction, we need to consider whether a green authoritarianism can show us the way. This book explores both its promises and risks.

Book Can Science Fix Climate Change

Download or read book Can Science Fix Climate Change written by Mike Hulme and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-06-04 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate change seems to be an insurmountable problem. Political solutions have so far had little impact. Some scientists are now advocating the so-called 'Plan B', a more direct way of reducing the rate of future warming by reflecting more sunlight back to space, creating a thermostat in the sky. In this book, Mike Hulme argues against this kind of hubristic techno-fix. Drawing upon a distinguished career studying the science, politics and ethics of climate change, he shows why using science to fix the global climate is undesirable, ungovernable and unattainable. Science and technology should instead serve the more pragmatic goals of increasing societal resilience to weather risks, improving regional air quality and driving forward an energy technology transition. Seeking to reset the planet’s thermostat is not the answer.

Book Global Energy Politics

Download or read book Global Energy Politics written by Thijs Van de Graaf and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-05-07 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since the Industrial Revolution energy has been a key driver of world politics. From the oil crises of the 1970s to today’s rapid expansion of renewable energy sources, every shift in global energy patterns has important repercussions for international relations. In this new book, Thijs Van de Graaf and Benjamin Sovacool uncover the intricate ways in which our energy systems have shaped global outcomes in four key areas of world politics: security, the economy, the environment and global justice. Moving beyond the narrow geopolitical focus that has dominated much of the discussion on global energy politics, they also deftly trace the connections between energy, environmental politics, and community activism. The authors argue that we are on the cusp of a global energy shift that promises to be no less transformative for the pursuit of wealth and power in world politics than the historical shifts from wood to coal and from coal to oil. This ongoing energy transformation will not only upend the global balance of power; it could also fundamentally transfer political authority away from the nation state, empowering citizens, regions and local communities. Global Energy Politics will be an essential resource for students of the social sciences grappling with the major energy issues of our times.

Book Making Climate Policy Work

Download or read book Making Climate Policy Work written by Danny Cullenward and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-10-07 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, the world’s governments have struggled to move from talk to action on climate. Many now hope that growing public concern will lead to greater policy ambition, but the most widely promoted strategy to address the climate crisis – the use of market-based programs – hasn’t been working and isn’t ready to scale. Danny Cullenward and David Victor show how the politics of creating and maintaining market-based policies render them ineffective nearly everywhere they have been applied. Reforms can help around the margins, but markets’ problems are structural and won’t disappear with increasing demand for climate solutions. Facing that reality requires relying more heavily on smart regulation and industrial policy – government-led strategies – to catalyze the transformation that markets promise, but rarely deliver.

Book Crisis

  • Author : Sylvia Walby
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 2015-10-30
  • ISBN : 150950320X
  • Pages : 174 pages

Download or read book Crisis written by Sylvia Walby and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-10-30 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are living in a time of crisis which has cascaded through society. Financial crisis has led to an economic crisis of recession and unemployment; an ensuing fiscal crisis over government deficits and austerity has led to a political crisis which threatens to become a democratic crisis. Borne unevenly, the effects of the crisis are exacerbating class and gender inequalities. Rival interpretations – a focus on ‘austerity’ and reduction in welfare spending versus a focus on ‘financial crisis’ and democratic regulation of finance – are used to justify radically diverse policies for the distribution of resources and strategies for economic growth, and contested gender relations lie at the heart of these debates. The future consequences of the crisis depend upon whether there is a deepening of democratic institutions, including in the European Union. Sylvia Walby offers an alternative framework within which to theorize crisis, drawing on complexity science and situating this within the wider field of study of risk, disaster and catastrophe. In doing so, she offers a critique and revision of the social science needed to understand the crisis.

Book Will Big Business Destroy Our Planet

Download or read book Will Big Business Destroy Our Planet written by Peter Dauvergne and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walmart. Coca-Cola. BP. Toyota. The world economy runs on the profits of transnational corporations. Politicians need their backing. Non-profit organizations rely on their philanthropy. People look to their brands for meaning. And their power continues to rise. Can these companies, as so many are now hoping, provide the solutions to end the mounting global environmental crisis? Absolutely, the CEOs of big business are telling us: the commitment to corporate social responsibility will ensure it happens voluntarily. Peter Dauvergne challenges this claim, arguing instead that corporations are still doing far more to destroy than protect our planet. Trusting big business to lead sustainability is, he cautions, unwise — perhaps even catastrophic. Planetary sustainability will require reining in the power of big business, starting now.

Book Gender and the Environment

Download or read book Gender and the Environment written by Nicole Detraz and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-12-20 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate change, natural disasters, and loss of biodiversity are all considered major environmental concerns for the international community both now and into the future. Each are damaging to the earth, but they also negatively impact human lives, especially those of women. Despite these important links, to date very little consideration has been given to the role of gender in global environmental politics and policy-making. This timely and insightful book explains why gender matters to the environment. In it, Nicole Detraz examines contemporary debates around population, consumption, and security to show how gender can help us to better understand environmental issues and to develop policies to tackle them effectively and justly. Our society often has different expectations of men and women, and these expectations influence the realm of environmental politics. Drawing on examples of various environmental concerns from countries around the world, Gender and the Environment makes the case that it is only by adopting a more inclusive focus that embraces the complex ways men and women interact with ecosystems that we can move towards enhanced sustainability and greater environmental justice on a global scale. This much-needed book is an invaluable guide for those interested in environmental politics and gender studies, and sets the agenda for future scholarship and advocacy.
