Book excerpt: They were trying out a new drive when a cosmic accident took them incalculable light years off course. A miracle of courage and astrogation meant than there were some survivors from the inevitable crash. The ship itself did not escape unscathed. What had been their vehicle became their prison. The buckled lock could not be opened from the inside and they had no other means of getting free. The air was slowly running out. The planet they had hit was raw and primitive by their own standards, but it did hold intelligent life. One of the natives found the ship. Dare the trapped space travellers hope for a miracle? If they go out what kind of strange life forms would they be involved with? Could they hope to find the kind of raw materials which would get their crippled ship into space again? If not, could they face life sentences on this strange, unknown, primitive world . . . ? Faced by a thousand fantastic difficulties the astronauts battled untiringly for their right to survive.

Book Fundamental Physics in Particle Traps

Download or read book Fundamental Physics in Particle Traps written by Wolfgang Quint and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-01-28 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides detailed insight into the field of precision spectroscopy and fundamental physics with particles confined in traps. It comprises experiments with electrons and positrons, protons and antiprotons, antimatter and highly charged ions together with corresponding theoretical background. Such investigations represent stringent tests of quantum electrodynamics and the Standard model, antiparticle and antimatter research, test of fundamental symmetries, constants and their possible variations with time and space. They are key to various aspects within metrology such as mass measurements and time standards, as well as promising to further developments in quantum information processing. The reader obtains a valuable source of information suited for beginners and experts with an interest in fundamental studies using particle traps.

Book Trap Responses of Flying Insects

Download or read book Trap Responses of Flying Insects written by R. C. Muirhead-Thompson and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Insect trapping is a basic field research tool for many biologists, whether they are studying insect pests, disease vectors or insect ecology for its own sake. Any field entomologist contemplating a new insect trapping program or looking to improve or develop an existing scheme will benefit from this broad review of flying insect traps, in which the author draws on a wide variety of methods used by different research projects from all over the world. Over the years a great many traps have been developed and endlessly modified to suit particular species, habitats, and research requirements. In virtually every case the design of the trap interacts with the specific behavior of the insects involved to bias trap efficiency. In addition, the limited dialogue between workers in different subject disciplines and habitats has caused a shortage of new information available to field entomologists as a whole. Describes and evaluates the main methods of trapping flying insects Brings together results from agricultural/forest/pest studies and those from medical entomology

Book The Principles of Causal Conspiracy book 1

Download or read book The Principles of Causal Conspiracy book 1 written by Michael M. Anthony and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2013-04 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is there a supreme principle that governs and unifies all things? Have you heard of the new scientific theory that has unified science and creationism? The Principles of Causal Conspiracy exposes new frontiers in science, mathematics, logic and the mind. It reveals the inner workings of the universe in a simple mathematical and scientific theory that explains the existence of space and time, fundamental particles, black holes, the Big Bang, the forces of nature, miracles, spirituality, divinity and creationism. Is it possible that we have found the ultimate unification of science, mathematics and religion? The Principles of Causal Conspiracy reveals a deep and beautiful link between mathematics, string theory, the Riemann Hypothesis, quantum physics, logic, the human mind and creationism. Michael Mark Anthony has written two books (book one and two) that give readers a whole new perspective on the controversial link between science and religion. In book one, Michael Mark Anthony reveals a new theoretical framework for unification of science, mathematics, the mind, and deism. The new theory touches all known subjects, including religion, quantum theory and cosmology. Book two reveals a deep link between Cosmology, Black holes, the Big Bang, Quantum theory, String theory, and Mathematics.

Book Survey of Semiconductor Physics

Download or read book Survey of Semiconductor Physics written by Karl W. Böer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Any book that covers a large variety of subjects and is written by one author lacks by necessity the depth provided by an expert in his or her own field of specialization. This book is no exception. It has been written with the encouragement of my students and colleagues, who felt that an extensive card file I had accumulated over the years of teaching solid state and semiconductor physics would be helpful to more than just a few of us. This file, updated from time to time, contained lecture notes and other entries that were useful in my research and permitted me to give to my students a broader spectrum of information than is available in typical textbooks. When assembling this material into a book, I divided the top ics into material dealing with the homogeneous semiconductor, the subject of the previously published Volume 1, and the inhomoge neous semiconductor, the subject of this Volume 2. In order to keep the book to a manageable size, sections of tutorial character which can be used as text for a graduate level class had to be interwoven with others written in shorter, reference style. The pointers at the right-hand page header will assist in distinguishing the more diffi cult reference parts of the book (with the pointer to the right) from the more easy-to-read basic educational sections (with the pointer tending to the left).
