Book excerpt: Return to the dazzling world of Revelation Space with this British Science Fiction Award-winning space opera about a young man hell-bent on revenge on the surface of a twisted, disease-corrupted planet. The once-utopian Chasm City -- a domed human settlement on an otherwise inhospitable planet -- has been overrun by a virus known as the Melding Plague, capable of infecting any body, organic or computerized. Now, with the entire city corrupted -- from the people to the very buildings they inhabit -- only the most wretched sort of existence remains. For security operative Tanner Mirabel, it is the landscape of nightmares through which he searches for a lowlife postmortal killer. But the stakes are raised when his search brings him face to face with a centuries-old atrocity that history would rather forget. One of Locus and Science Fiction Chronicle's "Best SF Novels of the Year"

It also investigates national and international influences - including those of heritage conservation bodies, and examines their impact on cultural perceptions, in order to unravel the identity reconstructions that have taken place over the nation's first 50 years.

Book Management Strategies to Adapt Alpine Space Forests to Climate Change Risks

Download or read book Management Strategies to Adapt Alpine Space Forests to Climate Change Risks written by Gillian Cerbu and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2013-08-28 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate scenarios suggest that current forest stands will face radically different temperature and precipitation conditions in the future. Developing future strategies for forest management in the face of uncertain and highly variable forecasts of future site conditions is a great challenge. Here we have analyzed transnational case studies dealing with different manifestations of climate change effects. We intend to stimulate the discussion on management strategies to adapt forests in the Alps to climate change risks. The presented results are derived from the INTERREG project "Management Strategies to Adapt Alpine Space Forests to Climate Change Risks" that was implemented within the framework of the European Territorial Cooperation "Alpine Space Programme" 2007-2013.
