Book Direct Use of the Sun s Energy

Download or read book Direct Use of the Sun s Energy written by Farrington Daniels and published by . This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Earth's resources are being consumed at a rapid rate. If we do not solve this problem, we will all be extinct soon. This book discusses in layman's terms the various areas of research into converting the Sun's energy into ways the energy can be stored and put to practical use. The only inexhaustible supply of energy that we have is energy from the Sun. Green chlorophyll has the ability to convert energy from the Sun into organic compounds that we and other animals eat. This is nature's solution to the problem of capture and storage of energy. Scientists are working to develop photosynthetic processes suitable for commercial development - a complex but not insoluble problem. The author, Farrington Daniels, was a top nuclear scientist at the leadership of the Manhattan Project to develop the A-Bomb. After the conclusion of World War II, he switched over to the study of Solar Power because he recognized that nuclear power has the potential to evaporate the world.

Book Sun Power

Download or read book Sun Power written by Neville Williams and published by Forge Books. This book was released on 2014-04-22 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America is on the brink of a green energy revolution that can save the planet, and increase peace and prosperity, by harnessing the unlimited solar power. After decades of promise, the technology for alternative energy solutions now exists to replace our dangerous addiction to fossil fuels with cheap, clean solar energy. Neville Williams has been on the leading edge of this revolution for decades and knows from firsthand experience how sun power can transform lives and communities for the better. He has traveled the globe bringing solar-generated electricity to struggling communities throughout Asia, Africa, India, and the developing world. From isolated villages high in the mountains of Nepal to remote settlements in South Africa, Williams has worked to bring sun power to even the most off-the-grid reaches of the planet. He has brought that knowledge and experience back to America where he founded one of the country's fastest growing solar companies. If millions of poor families in the Third World can get their power from the sun, why can't Americans concerned with their rising power bills, dependence on foreign oil, and carbon footprints do the same? The answer is that sun power is here, it works, and can light up a new era of economic and environmental security—if we have the will to seize this historic opportunity. This book is not about predictions or promises. It's about what's happening now, all over the world, and what still needs to done. Book Integrated Wastewater Management and Valorization using Algal Cultures

Download or read book Integrated Wastewater Management and Valorization using Algal Cultures written by Goksel N. Demirer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2022-03-24 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated Wastewater Management and Valorization using Algal Cultures provides a holistic view on coupled wastewater treatment and biomass production for energy and value-added products using algal cultures. Algal cultures provide low-cost nutrient (nitrogen and phosphorus) treatment and recovery from wastewaters, carbon-dioxide sequestration from waste gases, value-added generation in the form of bio-energy and bio-based chemicals, biosorption of heavy metals and biogas upgrading. The book addresses all these aspects in terms of role of algal cultures in environmental sustainability and circular economy. The production of high value products is addressed through pretreatment and anaerobic co-digestion of wastewater-derived microalgal biomass and microalgal biorefineries. The simultaneous dissolution and uptake of nutrients in microalgal treatment of anaerobic digestate is discussed, as is coupled electrocoagulation and algal cultivation for the treatment of anaerobic digestate and algal biomass production. Finally, optimization of algal biomass production is discussed using metagenomics and machine learning tools, and scale-up potential and the limitations of integrated wastewater-derived microalgal biorefineries is discussed. Integrated Wastewater Management and Valorization using Algal Cultures offers an integrated resource on wastewater treatment, biomass production, bioenergy and value-added product generation for researchers in bioenergy and renewable energy, environmental science and wastewater treatment, as well as environmental and chemical engineering. Comprehensively covers methods of wastewater treatment by algal cultivation and algal utilization Integrates the applications of algal cultures across wastewater treatment, nutrient recycling, CO2 sequestration, bio-energy and bio-based product generation Provides several international case studies to showcase actual algae-based pilot projects and facilities

Book Physics of the Sun

Download or read book Physics of the Sun written by P.A. Sturrock and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, together with its two companion volumes, originated in a study commis sioned by the United States National Academy of Sciences on behalf of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. A committee composed of Tom Holzer, Dimitri Mihalas, Roger Ulrich and myself was asked to prepare a comprehensive review of current knowledge concerning the physics of the Sun. We were fortunate in being able to persuade many distinguished scientists to gather their forces for the preparation of 21 separate chapters covering not only solar physics but also relevant areas of astrophysics and solar-terrestrial relations. It proved necessary to divide the chapters into three separate volumes that cover three different aspects of solar physics. Volumes II and III are concerned with 'The Solar Atmosphere' and with 'Astrophysics and Solar-Terrestrial Relations'. This volume is devoted to 'The Solar Interior', except that the volume begins with one chapter reviewing the contents of all three volumes. Our study of the solar interior includes a review of nuclear, atomic, radiative, hydrodynamic and hydromagnetic processes, together with reviews of three areas of active current investigation: the dynamo mechanism, internal rotation and magnetic fields, and oscillations. The last topic, in particular, has emerged in recent years as one of the most exciting areas of solar research.

Book Modular Systems for Energy and Fuel Recovery and Conversion

Download or read book Modular Systems for Energy and Fuel Recovery and Conversion written by Yatish T. Shah and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-06-28 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modular Systems for Energy and Fuel Recovery and Conversion surveys the benefits of the modular approach in the front end of the energy industry. The book also outlines strategies for managing modular approaches for fossil, renewable, and nuclear energy resource recovery and conversion with the help of successful industrial examples. The book points out that while the modular approach is most applicable for distributed and small-scale energy systems, it is also often used for parts of large-scale centralized systems. With the help of successful industrial examples of modular approaches for energy and fuel recovery and conversion, the book points out the need for more balance between large-scale centralized systems and small-scale distributed systems to serve the energy needs of rural and isolated communities. Coal, oil, natural gas, hydrogen, biomass, waste, nuclear, geothermal solar, wind, and hydro energy are examined, showing that modular operations are very successfully used in all these components of the energy industry. Aimed at academic researchers and industry professionals, this book provides successful examples and analysis of the modular operation for energy and fuel recovery and conversion. It is also a reference for those who are engaged in the development of modular systems for energy and fuel recovery and conversion.
