Book excerpt: It's been 15 years since my journey began back to the throne of God. I'm not sure when I began to think God wasnt on the throne nor when I began to think I was on it myself. I suppose we all have problems when it comes to understanding the Lordship of Christ and submitting ourselves to that reality. When my theology came tumbling down I found myself taking refuge in God's word. I buried myself there trying to figure out who God was and ultimately who I am in Him. Lord of The Harvest is the fruit of that journey. Lord of the Harvest takes a hard look at God's hand in salvation and restores Gods glory, honor, power and praise for all that He does in that process. The result is an overwhelming sense of gratitude and a strong desire to cast our crowns at the feet of Jesus and give Him praise for His loving kindness towards us. This book will open up your eyes to all that God has done in your life and will leave you on your knees in thanksgiving and praise before the Lord God Almighty.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the following pages an attempt has been made to examine anew in the light of God's Word some of the profoundest questions which can engage the human mind. Oth¬ers have grappled with these mighty problems in days gone by and from their labors we are the gainers. While mak¬ing no claim for originality the writer, nevertheless, has endeavored to examine and deal with his subject from an entirely independent viewpoint. We have studied diligently the writings of such men as Augustine and Acquinas, Calvin and Melancthon, Jonathan Edwards and Ralph Erskine, Andrew Fuller and Robert Haldane.* And sad it is to think that these eminent and honored names are almost entirely unknown to the present generation. Though, of course, we do not endorse all their conclusions, yet we gladly acknowledge our deep indebtedness to their works. We have purposely refrained from quoting freely from these deeply taught theologians, because we desired that the faith of our readers should stand not in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. For this reason we have quoted freely from the Scriptures and have sought to furnish proof texts for every statement we have advanced. Arthur Walkington Pink was an English Christian evangelist and Biblical scholar known for his staunchly Calvinist and Puritan-like teachings. Though born to Christian parents, prior to conversion he migrated into a Theosophical society (an occult gnostic group popular in England during that time), and quickly rose in prominence within their ranks. His conversion came from his father's patient admonitions from Scripture. It was the verse, Proverbs 14:12, 'there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death,' which particularly struck his heart and compelled him to renounce Theosophy and follow Jesus.

  • Author : Arthur W. Pink
  • Publisher : Sovereign Grace Publishers,
  • Release : 2008-08
  • ISBN : 1589604385
  • Pages : 328 pages

Download or read book Sovereignty of God written by Arthur W. Pink and published by Sovereign Grace Publishers,. This book was released on 2008-08 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pink (d. 1953) is noted for his independent thinking. He was so well read, and had such a photographic memory, that he could give you the page and column in a host of reference works and commentaries. This book shocked the Christian world in 1919 when he published it. He fiercely defends the sovereignty of God, and all the cognate doctrines such as the Doctrines of Grace. It is THE book to give to those just after conversion, and a prime book to give to anyone who defends the free will of man. Pink was a Baptist preacher who held pulpits in England, America, and Australia. His early training was in scientology. His conversion was instant, and complete dedication to the cause of God and truth quickly became evident. This early book by Pink lays Scripture end to end to prove God's control over all persons and events. It is uncompromising, and as such it raises the hackles on the necks of many new students of this doctrine. Persons who knew Pink seldom objected to anything he taught, because he could literally quote hundreds of verses of Scripture verbatim on the subject under discussion. This book may be overwhelming, but it is certain that its many printings have been used of God to convince people of His sovereignty. The Banner of Truth has an edition of this book, but they have abridged their edition by deleting the chapter on Reprobation. If Pink were still alive, he certainly would not have allowed this misrepresentation of his doctrinal belief: that God both elects and reprobates, as Romans 9:21?23 clearly teaches. It is an important stone to guide the steps of those who are not yet convinced of God's absolute sovereignty over all persons and events.

Book excerpt: "From every pulpit in the land it needs to be thundered forth that God still lives, that God still observes, that God still reigns. Faith is now in the crucible, it is being tested by fire, and there is no fixed and sufficient resting place for the heart and mind but in the throne of God. What is needed now, as never before, is a full, positive, constructive setting forth of the Godhood of God." —A. W. Pink, The Sovereignty of God Who is actually in control of this world? Man? The devil? God? In this unabridged, best-selling classic, A. W. Pink tackles such profound questions in straight-forward language that the average Christian will find not only understandable but totally engaging. Pink explains that God's sovereignty is characterized in creation and in salvation, and then he describes its relationship to human will. Finally, Pink addresses the proper attitude believers should take toward God's sovereignty. Ultimately, Pink strongly believed that true faith rests "not in the wisdom of men but in the power of God." Pink was a student of theologians like St. Augustine, St. Aquinas, Calvin, and Jonathan Edwards, and his writing reflects it. Today, he is considered one of the most influential evangelical authors in the twentieth century.

Book The Sovereignty of God in Salvation

Download or read book The Sovereignty of God in Salvation written by Frederick William Grant and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who do you side with--Calvin or Arminius? Are we saved by God's sovereign grace or by our own choosing? For centuries, this question has divided many Christians into two camps: the Calvinists and Arminians. This pamphlet, including excerpts from F.W. Grant and C.H. Mackintosh, shows that though each system has elements of truth, the mind and ways of God cannot be contained in such narrow doctrinal confines. Rather, it is only when God's Word is allowed to speak for itself that we begin to see God's sovereign grace and man's responsibility, not as contradictory ideas which preclude the existence of the other, but rather as complementary aspects of His full and free salvation.

Book Debated Issues in Sovereign Predestination

Download or read book Debated Issues in Sovereign Predestination written by Joel R. Beeke and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2017-03-13 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joel R. Beeke's work is an academic monograph of historical theology that examines three flashpoints of controversy in Reformation and Post-Reformation theology. As the subtitle, Early Lutheran Predestination, Calvinian Reprobation, and Variations in Genevan Lapsarianism implies, the work addresses, first, the development of the Lutheran doctrine of predestination from Martin Luther (1483–1546) and Philip Melanchthon (1497–1560) to the Formula of Concord (1577); second, the development of John Calvin's (1509–1564) doctrine of reprobation as traced through his writings; and third, the doctrine of predestination in Geneva with a particular emphasis on lapsarianism from Theodore Beza (1519–1605) in the sixteenth century to Jean-Alphonse Turretin (1671–1737) and Jacob Vernet (1698–1789) in the eighteenth century. The fruit of three decades of study by a professor of systematic theology who specializes in Reformation and Post-Reformation theology, this book offers a harvest of insights into questions that stood at the center of Reformation debates. Dr. Donald Sinnema, a leading scholar in predestinarian theology and the Synod of Dort, writes: "Beeke addresses these difficult matters with sensitivity to historical context and development, with systematic acuity, and a broad grasp of secondary scholarly literature with which he dialogues. The result is a balanced analysis of these issues that should bring greater clarity to scholarly understanding of the doctrine of predestination in the early modern era."
