The mother of Long Snake clothed her with a very beautiful robe. After she was dressed she called for an axe and went to cut firewood. Having arrived in the open fields she did not cut the firewood, but she threw away the axe and ran to her father's place. After she arrived at her father's place her sister enquired where she had got that beautiful robe. Her sister told her, and she said, I am also going to that village. Her sister said, just listen to what I tell you of the custom of that village. But her sister said in reply, I do not want you to tell me anything because you yourself were not warned before you went. This book was released on 2017-11-10 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A History of the Gold Coast of West Africa Seven days' further sail brought the expedition to a large bay, to which they gave the name of the Western Horn. In this bay was an island, on which they landed. During the day all was calm, but at night strange appearances pre sented themselves: the mountains seemed to be all on fire, and the sound 01 drums and cymbals was mingled with strange cries. Terrified at these sights and sounds the explorers hastily embarked, and as they continued their course to the south, columns of flame still illumined the midnight sky. Sailing seven days along this coast they came to a bay, which they called the Southern Horn, and found within it an island with a lake, and in this lake another island, filled with savages of a peculiar description. The females were covered with hair and were called Gorillas. The males fled across the precipices, and defended them selves with stones; but the Carthaginians captured three females. These, however, broke their bonds and fought so furiously that it was found necessary to kill them but their Skins were stuffed and brought to Carthage. The want of provisions prevented the explorers proceeding any further to the south. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cinderella in the South: South African Tales I drank from the fair water by the temple's western approach, and sat down t0'smoke under a tree in the precincts. The big cone of the main tower was just in sight. I had seen the walls before, and was in no analytical mood; synthesis was enough for me. I took in with my delighted eyes a roofless dome worthy to be a temple of some sort, even if it were not, a blue roof that bettered mere human aspiration, debris testifying to earthly incompleteness, a broken column with its memento mori - all these were sim mering in my vision and my judgment. I half dozed until the voices of the lunch'ers began to interest me. They were doing the rounds rather hastily, lunch having cut into their time, so short at its very best. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lake Ngami, or Explorations and Discoveries During Four Years' Wanderings in the Wilds of South Western Africa The following Narrative of Explorations and Discoveries during four years in the wilds of the south-western parts of Africa, con tains an account of two expeditions in that continent between the years 1850 and 1854. In the first of these journeys, the countries of the Damaras (previously all but unknown in Europe) and of the Ovambo (till now a term incognita) were explored; in the second, the newly-discovered Lake Ngami, was reached by a route that had always been deemed impracticable. It is more than probable that this route (the shortest and best) will be adopted as the one by which commerce and civilization may eventually find their way to the Lake regions. The first journey was performed in company with Mr. Francis Galton, to whom we are indebted for a work on 'tropical South Africa;' on the second, the Author was alone, and altogether dependent on his own very scanty resources.
