Book excerpt: 'Dan Rhodes is a true original' – Hilary Mantel When the sleepy English village of Green Bottom hosts its first literary festival, the good, the bad and the ugly of the book world descend upon its leafy lanes. But the villagers are not prepared for the peculiar habits, petty rivalries and unspeakable desires of the authors. And they are certainly not equipped to deal with Wilberforce Selfram, the ghoul-faced, ageing enfant terrible who wreaks havoc wherever he goes. Sour Grapes is a hilarious satire on the literary world which takes no prisoners as it skewers authors, agents, publishers and reviewers alike.

Book The Boys Are Back Movie Tie in Edition

Download or read book The Boys Are Back Movie Tie in Edition written by Simon Carr and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2011-04-27 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emotionally honest and sharply witty, a story that is at once heartbreaking and wonderfully life-affirming about one man's life as a single parent. "So there we are, a father and two sons in a household without role models, males together in a home different from anything I'd known—an idyllic Lost Boys' world with a house full of children and as few rules as possible." When Simon Carr's wife Susie lost her battle to cancer, Carr was left to raise his 5-year old son, Alexander, on his own. Soon after, Hugo, his 11-year old son from a previous marriage comes to live with them. Now, this motley crew of boys have to learn how to be a family. Along the way, Carr reveals some illuminating truths about parenting and the differences between mothers and fathers. His messy household bears no similarity to the immaculate home his wife kept; his response to mothers on the playground fretting about his son's safety on the handlebars is, "If he falls, at least he'll know not to do it again."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ernest Buckler’s literary stature was established by the publication of The Mountain and the Valley, which in the author’s own lifetime is already entrenched as a Canadian classic. The same remarkable qualities that led to that acclaim are abundantly present in this second novel: the ever-renewing wondering regard for nature; the incomparable portrayal of human relationships; the complex prose with its carefully chosen words expressing in a cluster of meaning the full impact of an idea or situation. Against a deceptively simple background Ernest Buckler weaves a complicated and intricate design. The setting is a country guesthouse in Nova Scotia -- a kind of dream haven for getting away from it all. Not every passing traveler is welcome. The price of admission is intelligence. So they come, the brilliant, disillusioned ones -- from New York and Connecticut, and from nearer Halifax -- each with his private reason for seeking to escape. It was a dangerous game they played... while the harsh April winds stripped bare their pretentions and the hot sun seared their exposed wounds, inflaming passions they scarcely knew existed, and irrevocably changing their lives... To classify this novel as a work of brilliant analytical insight is t o tell only part of the story. Each page vibrates with a liveliness that is both physical and mental; the book sparkles with wit and variety. The Cruelest Month is an unforgettable literary experience. Read it for yourself and see.

Book The Legacy of My Mother S Love

Download or read book The Legacy of My Mother S Love written by Rose Crane and published by BalboaPress. This book was released on 2012-04-28 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within this book is a collection of my mothers poems written for her lost loves, her love of her country, living in a new country, her love for her children, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and all who came into her world. Before she died, she gave me some of her poetry, written in books but mostly scribbled on scraps of paper, old envelopes and clothing labels. She wrote the words as they occurred on whatever she could quickly find so as not to forget the words and inspiration. This book is a journey of the heart, captured in poetry. It is real life in words, touching the deep recesses of the heart. It helps to bridge our humanity and spirituality within an encompassing message of love. My mother was born in Scotland on 17th March, 1925 and passed away in Tasmania on 19th July, 2004. I miss her every day, I miss her support, her wit and humour, her knowledge and wisdom, but most of all her unconditional love. Sometimes when my daughters and I are gathered together, we will smell the unmistakable smell of April Violets, which was my mothers favourite perfume. We know instantly that Mum has come to join in the family time together with us. Sometimes there will be a message given and sometimes she comes to share the love. I look forward to spending time with her embodied once more in another life and time.

This book will help you chart a path and focus in on your spiritual healing making your life meaningful and your journey much more vivid in your eyes of Heaven. From the bottom of the barrel in prison, Cody Robert Judy has made his way and helps you to identify your strengths by confessing your weaknesses. The whole book is a Teaching Moment designed to help you find answers that are true and meaningful. America's history is rich with colorful characters whose outlandish escapades carved their names indelibly on its rugged, untamed landscape. Cody Robert Judy is the only Candidate for President in America to take both Sen. John McCain in 2008 and Barack Hussein Obama to Court taking a stand on the eligibility requirement for the Office of the President. Cody's latest action continues even today in the United States Supreme Court Case NO. 12-5276 & 14-9396 with a Special Individual Justice Petition to Justice Gorsuch. In 2010 Cody became the first Presidential Candidate in American History to testify under oath against another candidate unqualified by the Constitution's requirements. Cody's Stand Enter Cody Robert Judy blazing fire from the west - a modern day Revolutionary George Washington, capital P for Protester, whose Book Of Mormon (B.O.M). quandary framed him in 1993 and landed him in more Free Speech hot water than any native son could be expected to handle with the Constitution under assault. With no one to help, he faced the hell America will face without the Constitution and his story is but a glimpse of what is to come if America doesn't wake up and read this memoir of truth that eclipses the dark propaganda of security and slavery for the dawn of Constitutional vitality! As a political prisoner for 8 years Judy emerges bloodied but unbowed citing the unconstitutional union of Church and State in the case that pitted the State dictating what Americans of Faith will be horrified of in Church where free speech has the greatest latitude for religious sentiment. Happening in America, because of the anti-Constitutional agenda of elected government seeking to control your very lives and fortunes..America is waking up to see the Constitution burning. Citing Lincoln's third party status in his bid for the Presidency and Washington's thirteen strikes before finally hitting one out of the park, Judy claimed he had complete confidence in his fight during a 2002 run for U.S. Congress,2004 bid for U.S. Senate, and in 2008 as a Presidential Candidate, and these were just pieces of the puzzle in serving intelligence for America . Cody, an unsung American Patriot took on the elite in the face of over whelming odds believing as KEY to America's freedom and liberty the U.S. Constitution must stand. Cody roars, "Taking A Stand is the most important thing we can do for our childrens brilliant future!" Conservative Independent, platform for U.S. Senator in 2010,(www.codyjudy.us) as a political activist fighting for the principles of the United States Constitution, Cody Judy took a stand on the Qualification issue of first John Sidney McCain and then Barack Hussein Obama challenging them in the Judicial Branch of our Government as no other candidate has in history. No U.S. Senator has taken a stand like Cody Robert Judy as he alone did not discriminate between black or white but focused on the Qualifications of a Constitutional Principle for the Office of the President and realized the ominous signs of unconstitutional law we are seeing as the affects of the U.S. being seized upon by a social marxist regime as Communism rising like a bear in the U.S. and the U.S. domestic enemies takes on a whole new meaning as government TAKES a look at YOU! Can we look past the audacity of hope, and learn something about the irrepressible spirit and courage that a man named Cody Robert Judy has tread in our Forefathers footsteps, who defined the birth of our nation as rebels oppressed by Tyranny and Government astray in hope for man; - in this brash iron man - America's envelope continues to be pushed, freedom sings and liberty rings as America is waking up to realize they have been deceived by those they trusted and Cody Robert Judy a man of humility before God whose testimony is that of the angels trumpet takes a stand for all we had hoped elected leaders would but haven't! This work is Cody Robert Judy's take on The Truth. It may raise a few eyebrows and cause the shaking of heads, but its purpose in the end is a worthy one answering the question of 'Why'. After all, as a profoundly controversial figure is said to have once said, '...and the truth shall set you free'. Taking A Stand- A story of Love,Leadership, and Loss profound in Sacrifice. ' Honor, Respect, and Cherish your Freedom, for it carries the Blood of those who gave it to you.' Abraham Lincoln. Book Making Space in the Works of James Joyce

Download or read book Making Space in the Works of James Joyce written by Valerie Benejam and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-05-23 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: James Joyce’s preoccupation with space—be it urban, geographic, stellar, geometrical or optical—is a central and idiosyncratic feature of his work. In Making Space in the Works of James Joyce, some of the most esteemed scholars in Joyce studies have come together to evaluate the perception and mental construction of space, as it is evoked through Joyce’s writing. The aim is to bring together several recent trends of literary research and criticism to bear on the notion of space in its most concrete sense. The essays move dialectically out of an immediate focus on the phenomenological and intra-psychic, into broader and wider meditations on the social, urban and collective. As Joyce’s formal experiments appear the response to the difficulty of enunciating truly the experience of lived space, this eventually leads us to textual and linguistic space. The final contribution evokes the space with which Joyce worked daily, that of his manuscripts—or what he called "paperspace." With essays addressing all of Joyce's major works, this volume is a critical contribution to our understanding of modernism, as well as of the relationship between space, language, and literature.
