Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The man known as Clark Durbin worked for the Comstock National Bank as a consultant in computer programming for over a year. Durbin was described as approximately 65 years old, had a full head of gray hair and a full beard that was also gray. He was approximately six foot tall and was overweight. He had a cheerful demeanor and sparkling blue eyes—the type of individual one was inclined to instinctively trust. This was of course a disguise. He was actually 48 years old, five foot eleven inches tall, weighed 170 pounds, had brown hair, brown eyes, was clean shaven, and his name was not Mark Durbin. After the fraudulent transfer of fifty million dollars to a numbered account in Zurich, Durbin disappeared, leaving no tracks. Jeremiah Jones, a private investigator with a reputation for finding people who don’t want to be found, was contracted by the bank to recover the money and find the thief. The thief’s ability to make himself seemingly invisible challenged Jeremiah’s tracking skills. Tracking is done in the mind as much or more than by following physical or electronic tracks, which in this case were few. After some misdirection, false trails, and bad assumptions, Jeremiah, at a considerable personal risk, successfully located the money and returned it to the bank. However, identifying the thief proved to be even more challenging.

Download or read book My Heart Sings written by Jan Auggi Jones and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-11-29 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This author appreciates writing poetry, novels, childrens stories; the performing arts; and music of many genres. She was raised on gospel and country music played on an old Victrola phonograph with a black-and-white dog staring into a gramophone on the inside of the cover. Today, this author has become enamored with and is fangirling over country a cappella music, which is relatively new. Curious about the behind the scenes activities of a successful bands life, living on the edge of temptations in todays media-frenzied world, she created a believable group running through life on unbelievable favor, spearheaded by love between a wealthy, incredibly intelligent and beautiful African-American ballerina and a super talented tenor from the deep South and their unique way of overcoming racial issues with love. Murder, sex, and drugs fuel the life and romance of these two extraordinary, opposite, characters living and excelling way above the normal expectations of life, hinting into the cosmic pluralism like no one has ever experienced before. This author spent thirty-five years in the busy, topsy-turvy support area of corporate America, starting with the FBI and ending in the legal field, before being forced to retire on disability. This is her first adult romance novel. She writes and has published poetry on poetry.com with two poems published in anthologies; she was the author and publisher of Newsletters for Boy Scout Troop and Pack 731, The Indian Creek District, and for newsletters, service bulletins, and memorial programs for two churches. The author is a widow who lives in Waldorf, Maryland, with her son, daughter-law, grandson, and grandpup, Toli.

Book A Singular Education

Download or read book A Singular Education written by Gunter Nitsch and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A SINGULAR EDUCATION: A German Bachelor in New York (1964-1974) recounts the turbulent first decade that German-born author Gunter Nitsch spent in New York City. Fresh off the boat in April 1964 as an idealistic twenty-six-year-old confirmed bachelor with just $400 to his name and no prospects, his journey of discovery eventually takes him to elegant receptions and white tie events at fine hotels, as well as to a Head Start classroom in Harlem, to the home of an unrepentant Nazi on Staten Island, to a wild clothing optional party in Greenwich Village, to sit-ins at Hunter College, and even to a cockfight in the South Bronx. Along the way several people unexpectedly offer him help; many others insist on blaming him for World War II. With self-deprecating humor and the unique perspective of a recent German immigrant, A SINGULAR EDUCATION is set against a backdrop of the prejudices -- against African-Americans, Jews, anyone, in fact, considered "the other" -- that remained deeply ingrained in the American psyche at the time.

Book excerpt: Five more years have passed. Everything is spiraling out of control and that is the good news. With each new shipload of colonists, the focus shifts and clarity diminishes. What was once a tight-knit community is gradually becoming something else, something more diffuse, something harder to pin down and categorize easily. Fifty thousand more inhabitants mean fifty thousand more variables in the overall equation that constitutes Junction, and almost everyone sees that as a good thing. The colony is blossoming and spreading outward. Five more years also means another full cycle of togetherness and separation for Charley and Clarity of Purpose. Five more years means another couple of layers of hope and despair added to the strata of Charleys struggles. On the plus side, he now also has a daughter. On the negative, Clarity has returned to Arden with both her and her older brother to, pointedly, more fully inculcate them into Quanck society. Charleys son now has a name, he has reached the naming age of six (Earth years.) That is the earliest that Quanck society deigns to notice the existence of another human soul in their midst. He and his mother have compromised on the name of Bridge Spanner but Charley, most often, still calls him Junior. The story has progressed in other areas as well but the war seems to be in something of a lull. The Han have not put in a single appearance in all that time but their threat flavors everyones lives. They will have to be dealt with, another duty Charley reluctantly assumes. His success or failure will determine the ultimate fate of the colony, and Earth as well. How hard can saving the human race be?
