Book excerpt: This soul stirring, heart moving gospel story is about a young adult lady who has a real resilient and passionate love for God and a deep-seated love for her childhood friends that lived in her neighborhood and that she went to school with to be saved from the evil temptations and the luring devices of this world system and pursue a life of promoting good and upholding righteousness through God’s grace and love. In one of the scenes there are Some Churchgoers who are gathered around the front of the church just before the services starts. Only with itching ears can you wait to hear what they have to say. It’s a soul culture. Another scene Friends (very special) who grew up together, and now years later are talking on the telephone about old times. They fell in love and then grew apart, but the love never faded. One has become very successful but has an emptiness inside searching for real love. Deep inside, it’s hard for him to love or trust anyone. So, he calls a friend who was a beauty queen, wore the latest styles and had a new boy toy every week. She learned over the years to put up a good front, but secretly, she was trying to find a true relationship with God. She was trying to hide her emptiness until she gave her life to God and filled all the empty spaces. The result of “Soul Thang” is when prayer and faith work together souls are reached. This is what true victory looks like especially when it comes from a message of hope.

Book Life in Christ

  • Author : William Robert West
  • Publisher : AuthorHouse
  • Release : 2015-09-29
  • ISBN : 1504950690
  • Pages : 705 pages

Download or read book Life in Christ written by William Robert West and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-09-29 with total page 705 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do you believe about souls? There are many very different doctrines taught in the world today concerning souls that are believed to be in all humans. By most a soul is believed to be something that is wholly apart from the person a soul is in; that a soul is something that is that is believed to be complete in its self without the person; it will live after the person it is in is dead; it is believed that a soul will exist forever without the person; it will never be dead; therefore, a soul cannot be resurrected from the dead. It is believed that a soul must live someplace forever, and it will live either in Heaven or Hell even if there is no resurrection. The doctrine of unconditional immortality of a deathless soul being in a person, and that soul leaving that person at the death of the person makes it impossible for Christ to have give His life to save that soul from death; if a soul had immortality it would already have life and could never not have life; all Christ could do is give it a reward or punish it.

Worn out on social workers and parole officers, Alexander attempts to start a new life studying folklore and anthropology in Mexico where he imagines he will be free. However, he discovers that freedom has its own price and its own politics. Early 1960s Mexican villages and rural communities are losing their youth to the big cities' modern lifestyle. At the same time, the United States government is interfering with its southern neighbor's politics, fixating on Cuba and the spread of communism. The self-exiled Alexander is forced to flee Mexico City as a fugitive because he gets caught up in a sensational murder mystery and the covert schemes of the world's superpowers. He seeks asylum in communities steeped in Aztec traditions and is offered a rare glimpse of a world rapidly being swallowed up by modern-day Mexico.

  • Author : Eithne Quinn
  • Publisher : Columbia University Press

  • ISBN : 0231518102
  • Pages : 269 pages

Download or read book Nuthin but a G Thang written by Eithne Quinn and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2004-11-17 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the late 1980s, gangsta rap music emerged in urban America, giving voice to—and making money for—a social group widely considered to be in crisis: young, poor, black men. From its local origins, gangsta rap went on to flood the mainstream, generating enormous popularity and profits. Yet the highly charged lyrics, public battles, and hard, fast lifestyles that characterize the genre have incited the anger of many public figures and proponents of "family values." Constantly engaging questions of black identity and race relations, poverty and wealth, gangsta rap represents one of the most profound influences on pop culture in the last thirty years. Focusing on the artists Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, the Geto Boys, Snoop Dogg, and Tupac Shakur, Quinn explores the origins, development, and immense appeal of gangsta rap. Including detailed readings in urban geography, neoconservative politics, subcultural formations, black cultural debates, and music industry conditions, this book explains how and why this music genre emerged. In Nuthin'but a "G" Thang, Quinn argues that gangsta rap both reflected and reinforced the decline in black protest culture and the great rise in individualist and entrepreneurial thinking that took place in the U.S. after the 1970s. Uncovering gangsta rap's deep roots in black working-class expressive culture, she stresses the music's aesthetic pleasures and complexities that have often been ignored in critical accounts.

Book excerpt: Regarded as the founder of Neo-Platonism, Plotinus (AD 204-70) was the last great philosopher of antiquity, producing 0works that proved in many ways a precursor to Renaissance thought. Plotinus was convinced of the existence of a state of supreme perfection and argued powerfully that it was necessary to guide the human soul towards this state. Here he outlines his compelling belief in three increasingly perfect levels of existence - the Soul, the Intellect, and the One - and explains his conviction that humanity must strive to draw the soul towards spiritual transcendence. A fusion of Platonism, mystic passion and Aristotelian thought, The Enneads offers a highly original synthesis of early philosophical and religious beliefs, which powerfully influenced later Christian and Islamic theology.

Book The Pulpit Commentary Volume 5

Download or read book The Pulpit Commentary Volume 5 written by Spence-Jones, Henry and published by Delmarva Publications, Inc.. This book was released on 2015-08-14 with total page 9677 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pulpit Commentary was first published between 1880 and 1919 and is a highly respected work written by conservative, trustworthy men. Containing over 22,000 pages and 95,000 entries, it is one of the largest and best-selling homiletic commentary sets of all time. It was directed by editors Joseph Exell and Henry Donald Maurice Spence-Jones and utilized more than 100 authors over a 30-year span. When reading this commentary, it is not difficult to see why it has remained a favorite amongst pastors for more than 100 years. There are three key elements which set this apart from its contemporaries, the first being that it gives an exposition, or verse-by-verse, annotation of each verse in the Bible. The second element is that it explores the framework of the text, the homiletics. Finally, it supplies the homilies with multiple model sermons from various authors. Also included is a translation as well as historical and geographical information. The Evangelical Magazine and Missionary Chronicle declared, “This commentary bids fair to take a conspicuous place among the ever-multiplying aids to the study of the Holy Scriptures. It will revive the great work of Lange, and will far exceed the Speaker's Commentary in the bulk and fullness of its material. The peculiarity of the Pulpit Commentary is that it offers special assistance to the preacher: first by giving him a critical and exegetical exposition of the text of Scripture, and then providing him with succinct and helpful directions as to the preachable aspects of the chapter and paragraph already explained." The print edition of this set typically retails for more than $1,000 making the current offered price a very good bargain. Due to its size, it has been broken up into nine separate volumes: Volume 1 Genesis to Joshua Volume 2 Judges to 2 Kings Volume 3 1 Chronicles to Job Volume 4 Psalms to Song of Songs Volume 5 Isaiah to Daniel Volume 6 Hosea to Malachi Volume 7 Matthew to John Volume 8 Act to Philippians Volume 9 Colossians to Revelation The footnotes have been placed in line with the text with each footnote number enclosed in red brackets (i.e.: []) and the text in green. There is also a linked table of contents at the beginning of each volume for ease of navigation.
