It was the Civil Society Project, as proposed by Ali Bulac a prominent intellectual, which claimed to establish philosophical basis for a political and social restructuring of Turkey depending upon the basic premises of the Medina Document, which was signed among Muslims, Jews and Pagans of Medina City just after the Prophet Muhammed's migration in 622. The Project was a break from the tradi-tional understanding of Islamic politics both in Turkey and in the Muslim world. It was because of its focus on pluralism, multi-culturalism, democracy, human rights and many other liberal assumptions. This was a turning point in Turkish politics since the discussions created a liberal atmosphere among Islamist, leftist and rightists which at the end resulted in the mass acceptance of Islamic political parties by the voters since midst 1990's. The rise of first Refah Party and then AK Party owe much to this new understanding.

Hanifi Baris develops his arguments with an historical examination and finds apathy towards and a resistance to state-building in Kurdistan. Accordingly, Baris argues, this tendency to establish self-government with distaste to state-building has enabled major Kurdish movements in Turkey and Syria to develop a form of political community that constitutes a viable alternative to those based on theocratic, imperial and national sovereignty. Thus, Baris concludes, rather than being a conflict between competing nationalisms, the current Kurdish conflict in Turkey and Syria is between competing visions of political community.

It is obvious that we need to define different forms of alienation along with the pandemic. I believe this book will not be the first nor the last research book published on the Covid-19 pandemic. Our aim is to leave a resource on the subject for the next generation of researchers. TMC 2015 was hosted by Charles University Prague, Czech Republic from 25 to 27 June 2015. The TMC 2015 was the third event in the series that we were proud to organise and host at Charles University Prague. This selection of papers presented at the conference are only a small portion of contributions. Many other papers are included in edited books and submitted to refereed journals in due course. There were a total of about 146 papers by over 200 authors presented in 40 parallel sessions and three plenary sessions at Jinonice Campus of Charles University Prague. About a fıfth of the sessions at the conference were in Turkish language although the main language was English. Therefore some of the proceedings are in Turkish too. The keynote speakers included Douglas Massey of Princeton University, Caroline Brettell of Southern Methodist University, and Nedim Gürsel of CNRS.
