Book Following Ezra

Download or read book Following Ezra written by Tom Fields-Meyer and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2011-09-06 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A heartwarming, intimate, and amusing memoir of a father’s experience raising his autistic son. When Tom Fields-Meyer’s son Ezra was three and showing early signs of autism, a therapist suggested that the father needed to grieve. “For what?” Tom asked. The answer: “For the child he didn't turn out to be.” That moment helped strengthen the author’s resolve to do just the opposite: to love the child Ezra was, a quirky boy with a fascinating and complex mind. Full of tender moments and unexpected humor, Following Ezra is the story of a father and son on a ten-year journey from Ezra’s diagnosis to the dawn of his adolescence. It celebrates his growth from a toddler to an extraordinary young man, connected in his own remarkable ways to the world around him. And through Ezra’s eyes, Tom—and, in turn, the reader—gains a new and beautiful understanding of the world.

Download or read book Studies in Ezra Nehemiah Esther written by Dennis Dinger and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-08-28 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history books Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther contain records of life during the 70-year captivity of the children of Israel, as well as records of their return to Jerusalem after the captivity. Ezra records the return to rebuild the House of God; Nehemiah records the return to rebuild the walls and gates of Jerusalem; and Esther records an attempt in Shushan, during the reign of the Persian King Ahasuerus, to wipe out all Jews. Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther all faced adversaries to the Lord's work and to the Lord's people. As with all projects of the Lord, adversaries set up roadblocks to hinder their success. The House of God, the walls, and the gates were successfully completed, and the whole Jewish people were saved from destruction. The Lord God insured that projects were completed, enemies were stifled, and the children of Israel remained safe!

Book excerpt: A new translation and commentary on the biblical book of Ezra by the renowned author of two award-winning biblical commentaries The book of Ezra is a remarkable testament to a nation’s ability to survive and develop a distinctive identity under imperial rule. But Ezra is far more than a simple chronicle; it constitutes a new biblical model for political, religious, and social order in the Persian Empire. In this new volume, Tamara Cohn Eskenazi illustrates how the book of Ezra envisions the radical transformation that followed reconstruction after the fall of Jerusalem and Judah. The extensive introduction highlights the book’s innovations, including its textualization of the tradition, as well as the unprecedented role of the people as chief protagonists. The translation and commentary incorporate evidence from ancient and contemporaneous primary sources from Egypt, Babylonia, Greece, and Persia, along with new archaeological studies of Judah. With great care and detail, Eskenazi demonstrates how the book of Ezra creates a blueprint for survival after destruction, shaping a new kind of society and forging a new communal identity.

Book Sons of Ezra

Download or read book Sons of Ezra written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-04-25 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sons of Ezra: British Poets and Ezra Pound is about the impact of Ezra Pound upon British poets writing today. It is the story of a presence, then of a voice and latterly of an idea. When Pound left London in 1920 after a stay of 12 years, his early ascendancy had waned, and during the 1930s his voice sounded more remotely in British ears. The first poet represented here, Edwin Morgan, began to read Pound towards the end of that decade. Pound's subsequent political reputation has meant that students now coming to university, born after his death in 1972, have not opened a book of his poems in the way that several who testify here remember doing with pleasure. There was a revival of British interest in Pound with the publication of the Pisan Cantos, and then in the 1960s and early 1970s, but since then there has been little public opportunity for British poets to reflect on Pound. Michael Alexander and James McGonigal invited British poets to whom Pound has meant something to reflect, and to testify. To the older writers he was a presence, but the youngest contributors were born at the time that Pound fell silent about 1960, and to them he is an historical figure, the greatest poetic influence since Wordsworth, whose ambition seems an example to avoid as much as to follow.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presented here, in paperback for the first time, is John Peter Lange's 'Theologischhomiletisches Bibelwerk'. Intended to help preachers prepare sermons the commentary series is essentially biblical and evangelical catholic. This nineteenth-century commentary has served as a standard reference for more than a century. Many early reviewers regarded Schaff's edition with his additional material as superior to the original. It has proven to be a complete and useful commentary and continues to prove especially valuable to ministers. It contains critical annotations of the text and its translation, and a threefold commentary, exegetical, doctrinal, and homiletical. Under these three heads the text is viewed from every aspect.

Book Men Masculinities and Intermarriage in Ezra 9 10

Download or read book Men Masculinities and Intermarriage in Ezra 9 10 written by Elisabeth M. Cook and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-10-09 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offering a reading of the intermarriage debate and expulsion of the foreign women in Ezra 9-10, this book engages with the production and performance of masculinities in this biblical text, shifting the focus away from the 'foreign women' to the men who are the primary actors in this work. This approach addresses the diversity of masculinities and the ways in which they are implicated in the production of power relations in the text. It explores the ‘feminized’ masculinity of the peoples-of-the-lands, the unstable masculinity of the golah, Ezra’s performance of penitential masculinity, and the rehabilitation of divine masculinity. The rejection of the marriages and the call for the expulsion of the women and children are addressed as sites on which masculinities and power relations are configured. In doing so, this book sheds light on how women and the traits and performances culturally ascribed to women, femininity and inferior masculinities, are appropriated to produce masculinities and negotiate power relations between men. It posits that the debate in Ezra 9-10 is not, ultimately, about the women themselves, but about bringing the masculinities, bodies and practices of dissenting men under the ‘management’ of those who wield the Torah in the narrative world of the text. Men, Masculinities and Intermarriage in Ezra-9-10 is of interest for scholars and students working on the Book of Ezra specifically, as well as the Hebrew Bible and its world more broadly. It is also a valuable study for those working on masculinities and gender in the biblical world and ancient Near East.
