Download or read book Sonic Boom written by Gregg Easterbrook and published by Random House. This book was released on 2009-12-29 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What can a spell-checker tell you about economic trends? Why is the world’s supply of ideas about to double? What did America get right in the nineteenth century that it’s getting wrong in the twenty-first? If Karl Marx were alive today, would he be hosting a show on Fox News? These are just a few of the provocative questions asked by Sonic Boom, a (mainly) optimistic look at the near future. Sonic Boom tells why the world’s economy is likely to be just fine, with prosperity increasing; why globalization will soon drive us even crazier than it does today; why “a chaotic, raucous, unpredictable, stress-inducing, free, prosperous, well-informed, and smart future is coming.” The book is rich with specific examples and advice on how to navigate your own way through the craziness that’s ahead. Forbes calls Gregg Easterbrook “the best writer on complex topics in the United States,” and Sonic Boom will show you why.

Book Afropessimism

Download or read book Afropessimism written by Frank B. Wilderson III and published by Liveright Publishing. This book was released on 2020-04-07 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Wilderson’s thinking teaches us to believe in the miraculous even as we decry the brutalities out of which miracles emerge”—Fred Moten Praised as “a trenchant, funny, and unsparing work of memoir and philosophy” (Aaron Robertson,?Literary Hub), Frank B. Wilderson’s Afropessimism arrived at a moment when protests against police brutality once again swept the nation. Presenting an argument we can no longer ignore, Wilderson insists that we must view Blackness through the lens of perpetual slavery. Radical in conception, remarkably poignant, and with soaring flights of memoir, Afropessimism reverberates with wisdom and painful clarity in the fractured world we inhabit.“Wilderson’s ambitious book offers its readers two great gifts. First, it strives mightily to make its pessimistic vision plausible. . . . Second, the book depicts a remarkable life, lived with daring and sincerity.”—Paul C. Taylor, Washington Post

Book User Guides for Noise Modeling of Commercial Space Operations RUMBLE and PCBoom

Download or read book User Guides for Noise Modeling of Commercial Space Operations RUMBLE and PCBoom written by Kevin A. Bradley and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Commercial space launch vehicle activities are expected to continue to increase. As they begin testing and become operational, many noise issues as well as the effects from sonic booms will need to be evaluated. The Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT) is designed to evaluate the effects of noise and emissions from aircraft, but doesn't have the ability to predict noise and sonic boom effects from commercial space operations. Two tools were developed in this project to predict noise and sonic boom to be used in the noise modeling evaluation process. RUMBLE 2.0 predicts rocket noise, and PCBoom4 was modified to predict sonic boom from commercial space operations. ACRP Research Report 183 is the user's guide for each tool, and ACRP Web-Only Document 33: Commercial Space Operations Noise and Sonic Boom Modeling and Analysis is the contractor's final report on the methodology and development of these tools."

Book Handbook of Shock Waves Three Volume Set

Download or read book Handbook of Shock Waves Three Volume Set written by Gabi Ben-Dor and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-10-18 with total page 2188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Shock Waves contains a comprehensive, structured coverage of research topics related to shock wave phenomena including shock waves in gases, liquids, solids, and space. Shock waves represent an extremely important physical phenomena which appears to be of special practical importance in three major fields: compressible flow (aerodynamics), materials science, and astrophysics. Shock waves comprise a phenomenon that occurs when pressure builds to force a reaction, i.e. sonic boom that occurs when a jet breaks the speed of sound. This Handbook contains experimental, theoretical, and numerical results which never before appeared under one cover; the first handbook of its kind. The Handbook of Shock Waves is intended for researchers and engineers active in shock wave related fields. Additionally, R&D establishments, applied science & research laboratories and scientific and engineering libraries both in universities and government institutions. As well as, undergraduate and graduate students in fluid mechanics, gas dynamics, and physics. Key Features* Ben-Dor is known as one of the founders of the field of shock waves* Covers a broad spectrum of shock wave research topics* Provides a comprehensive description of various shock wave related subjects* First handbook ever to include under one separate cover: experimental, theoretical, and numerical results
