This book was released on 2017-12-12 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Songs of the West and Other Poems Here's a murmuring in the trees, And a sighing on the breeze; There's a calling from the robins on the hill; And it fills my heart with pain And a longing - that is vain To be up and out, a-wandering at my will. There are wildflowers everywhere Shedding fragrance on the air, The butterflies are hurrying to and fro; The squirrels and the bees Are as busy as you please. Out there among the hills where I would go. F or it's there that one can rest. Lying close to Nature's breast. And the breeze's lullaby is low and sweet, 50 I turn my longing eyes Where the stately mountains rise. And the wooded hills are nestling at their feet. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Songs of the West IN placing this volume of poems before the public, the author ess has been actuated more by the advice of friends than the mere love of fame, and if her songs shall be as music to one listening ear, not vainly will she have wrought through the red heat of summer days, or the white frost that lays nightly along the devious paths of every human life. As the dove went forth from the sacred ark, so her heart's bird goeth forth to the world from these pages, not knowing if it will find rest in sunny places, and beneath serene skies, but may it be to bear the branch of olive as a token, that shall bloom in perennial. If I shall disabuse the minds of a class among the community of a mistake under which they labor, and prove that the Pioneers are not the old stiffs and fossils they are supposed to be; that they are not buried in the ruins of Forty-nine so deep as to be oblivious to the exigencies and necessities of the living present, I shall have accomplished all I anticipated and more. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Songs of the Seasons: And Other Poems The present volume exhibits specimens of my moody but delight ful companion. She is ever to me a source of inefi'able pleasure. She is too independent to court the favors of the great, and shrinks from seeking the applause of the vulgar. Her joys are in the sanctuary of the domestic circle. My task is simply to give to the world the promptings of her inspiration. Should they be received with the smiles of favor, she may be encouraged to future exertion; but should the tribunal of the public, before which she is about to appear, doom her in justice to eternal oblivion, let her go unlamented. Whatever the decision may be, there is no danger of my pining away under a feeling of withering neglect. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Songs and Ballads of the West: A Collection Made From the Mouths of the People I find that in addition to one large common store of songs and ballads, each place visited and explored yields up two or three which are, so to speak, particular to each village, or musical centre. I have no hesitation in saying that several hundreds of ballads and songs, with their melodies, may by this means be collected, of which perhaps a third are very good, a third good, and the remainder indifferent.
