Book Somewhere Beyond the Heavens

Download or read book Somewhere Beyond the Heavens written by Julian Darius and published by . This book was released on 2018-12-18 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Glen A. Larson's Battlestar Galactica only lasted for a single season, yet it earned its place among the most beloved science-fiction shows of all time. In 2003, Ronald D. Moore reimagined the story. This new take proved hugely popular, revitalizing the once-niche franchise. Moore's Galactica successfully accomplished something few reboots of classic TV shows have ever managed to do: surpassing the original in scope and longevity. Like the Cylons, Galactica had evolved.Somewhere Beyond the Heavens: Exploring Battlestar Galactica, edited by Rich Handley and Lou Tambone, examines the entire mythos, both televised and published, from 40 different perspectives, just in time for the show's 40th anniversary. This anthology features insightful, analytical essays about Galactica's history, penned by popular comic historians, novelists, bloggers, subject-matter experts, and franchise insiders, including Samuel Agro, Jim Beard, Corinna Bechko, Joseph F. Berenato, Joe Bongiorno, Jeffrey Carver, October Crifasi, Steven Czarnecki, Julian Darius, Joseph Dilworth Jr., Matthew J. Elliott, Kelli Fitzpatrick, James Frenkel, Sabrina Fried, Caroline Glucksman, Robert Greenberger, Rich Handley, Amy Imhoff, Brandon Jerwa, Robert Jeschonek, Fiona Moore, John Kenneth Muir, Alex Newborn, Peter Noble, Alan J. Porter, Tony Simmons, Paul Simpson, Robert Smith?, Alan Stevens, and Lou Tambone. You say you want to know more about Battlestar Galactica? So say we all. From Sequart Organization. Book The World Beyond the Sky

Download or read book The World Beyond the Sky written by Ernestine Whitfield and published by . This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I started my quest for Heaven at my Mothers untimely death. I was only nine years old at the time. I was told God called my Mother away to heaven, to live eternally in paradise. I could not, at nine years old, comprehend heaven, most certainly not eternally. I asked of everyone, where is heaven? I wanted to find my Mother. Heaven, I was told, is far beyond the sky, farther than Man can see but we know it is there somewhere beyond the horizon. My Grandmother would simply point into the sky and say up YONDER. In all my years of research I never found YONDER. I believe now that it is simply a Southern Constellation, known only to a few deep southern fried Astronomers like my grandmother. No! I beg your pardon,I am not from the constellation YONDER, only from nearby Tishomingo County, Mississippi.

  • Pages : 98 pages

Download or read book On Being Human written by John Everett and published by John Everett. This book was released on 2014-06-12 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers a wide range of topics: psychology and psychoanalysis, neuroscience, and the psychological insights we find in ancient texts. To be fully inclusive in tackling the question of what it means to be human we need to address spiritual answers as well as scientific answers. So here is a book which includes Jesus of Nazareth as well as Freud, Paul of Tarsus as well as Jung, and suggests that in order to answer the question, what it means to be human, it is important not to exclude the spiritual, or to assume that when we die that is the end of us. Can we see Freud's id, ego, and super-ego as a parallel with the Bible's body, soul and spirit? Dare we think about left and right brain strengths in the same context as the fruit of the spirit? So many questions. In fact this book aims to provoke questions far more than to provide answers, though the source for these answers is firmly promoted.

Book excerpt: When Indigenous and non-Indigenous activists work together, what are the ends that they seek, and how do they negotiate their relationships while pursuing social change? Alliances brings together Indigenous and non-Indigenous leaders, activists, and scholars in order to examine their experiences of alliance-building for Indigenous rights and self-determination and for social and environmental justice. The contributors, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, come from diverse backgrounds as community activists and academics. They write from the front lines of struggle, from spaces of reflection rooted in past experiences, and from scholarly perspectives that use emerging theories to understand contemporary instances of alliance. Some contributors reflect on methods of mental decolonization while others use Indigenous concepts of respectful relationships in order to analyze present-day interactions. Most importantly, Alliances delves into the complex political and personal relationships inherent in both Indigenous and non-Indigenous struggles for social justice to provide insights into the tensions and possibilities of Indigenous-non-Indigenous alliance and coalition-building in the early twenty-first century.

Book Television Introductions

Download or read book Television Introductions written by Vincent Terrace and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2013-11-07 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the beginning of network television, many shows have been preceded by an announcement or theme song that served various purposes. In the 1950s and ’60s, it was common for announcers to declare that a program had been “brought to you by” a sponsor who paid for the privilege of introducing a show. Other programs, such as The Twilight Zone, Star Trek, and The Odd Couple, provided a brief encapsulation of the show’s subject matter, a practice that has continued for recent shows like Alias, Battlestar Galactica, Person of Interest, and the various editions of Law & Order. In Television Introductions: Narrated TV Program Openings since 1949, Vincent Terrace has assembled openings for more than nine hundred television shows from the past seven decades. The only documented history of narrated television program introductions, this volume is arranged by type of programming, such as comedy, drama, Western, game show, soap opera, and children’s show. In addition to quoting the opening material, entries provide information about each show’s network history and years of broadcast. Many entries include descriptions of the show, the names of announcers, and a list of main cast members, as well as a sponsor pitch exactly as spoken. Openings for programs with multiple introductions like The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet and Charlie’s Angels are also included. For programs that featured new guest stars every episode—such as game shows and variety programs—Terrace has selected a representative introduction. In addition to the theme song credits found in the main text, there are also appendixes of theme songs and their composers and/or singers, as well as a listing of commercial releases (on DVD, VHS, CD, and LP) of shows and their soundtracks. A comprehensive resource for researchers and pop culture aficionados alike, Television Introductions provides a fascinating look at this neglected part of TV history.

Drawing on the Jewish mystical traditions of Kabbalah and Hasidism, path-breaking Jewish scholar Arthur Green argues that a neomystical perspective can help us to reframe these realities, so they may yet be viewed as dwelling places of the sacred. In doing so, he rethinks such concepts as God, the origins and meaning of existence, human nature, and revelation to construct a new Judaism for the twenty-first century.
