Book excerpt: "She was like a flower grown in a walled garden. A perfect lady, Annabella Stewart had had every rebellious impulse carefully cultivated out of her. That is, until she met Ross Mackinnon, wild and free as the wind, blowing a warm and tempting breeze, stirring soft petals to swift desire. Betrothed against her will to a man she despised, Annabella was haunted by the hurricane force of the blue-eyed Texan with the heart-thundering grin who had come to Scotland to claim his ancestral home. He had a far-flung reputation for hell-raising and heartbreaking. Dazzled by the sheltered young girl with the face of an angel and the body of a dance-hall queen, Ross boldly defied the harsh traditions of the Highlands when he openly declared his love for a woman already spoken for. But life was different in this land of mists and mysteries than on the open prairies ... and Ross would have to confront the wrath of the clans before he could possess this mysterious creature who alone enslaved his will and enflamed his heart."--BOOK COVER

Book excerpt: My book is semi-autobiographical, and is called “Somewhere on the Mountain.” It’s based on my experiences growing up as a child in the 1950’s. The main character, Thomas, and his younger Billy, have a traumatic childhood, what with their mother dying, and their father leaving them in the care of people who abuse and molest them. Finally, when Thomas is ten, and his brother eight, they are placed in a boy’s home, which is just as bad as the place they came from, and the abuse goes on. But they have friends there, who in turn, help to make the Home more bearable. The only real saving grace about it, is that in the summer, they move to a camp in the mountains, and they stay there until school begins in the fall. Thomas enjoys the outdoor activities and the picnics.

Book excerpt: Amanda is a free spirit who somehow manages to get herself stuck in the energy vibration of a physical body. Of course she did it on purpose; nothing happens by accident. She's a little embarrassed to find herself on earth again and wonders how she ended up here when she vowed she'd never reincarnate again. Her most down-to-earth task is to see through the misty illusions of things for herself and to remember her spiritual nature. In the course of events, she gets sidetracked by what everyone says is real life. But she's not sure what's real anymore. She's been dreaming about rainbows lately, and now she's beginning to wonder if her life is really a dream she's having. Lavender is trying to remember something she's forgotten about her spiritual nature so she registers for school in the universe and begins classes in Time and Space, Energy and Matter, and Reality Awareness. She's a little concerned about the whole idea of synchronicity and the simultaneous time-space concept; she's not sure if she can handle everything at once. Her destiny is to unearth the mysteries of the universe and to rediscover the Scroll of Knowledge she wrote in Egypt. But she's reluctant to remember her experiences as a philosopher and has turned off her spiritual awareness. Rainbow is Amanda's higher self and Lavender's teacher who tries to help them see the light within themselves. But Rainbow is really more than she appears to be at first, or even second, glance.

Book The Road to Somewhere

Download or read book The Road to Somewhere written by David Goodhart and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-01-15 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A robust and timely investigation into the political and moral fault-lines that divide Brexit Britain and Trump's America -- and how a new settlement may be achieved. Several decades of greater economic and cultural openness in the West have not benefited all our citizens. Among those who have been left behind, a populist politics of culture and identity has successfully challenged the traditional politics of Left and Right, creating a new division: between the mobile "achieved" identity of the people from Anywhere, and the marginalized, roots-based identity of the people from Somewhere. This schism accounts for the Brexit vote, the election of Donald Trump, the decline of the center-left, and the rise of populism across Europe. David Goodhart's compelling investigation of the new global politics reveals how the Somewhere backlash is a democratic response to the dominance of Anywhere interests, in everything from mass higher education to mass immigration.

Book Somewhere over the Rainbow

Download or read book Somewhere over the Rainbow written by Patricia Foster and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-08-03 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My Story, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, is a human and personal story. Patricia's Memoir covers much of her life, and of the Twentieth Century, including the Post War Years, seen from a young person's perspective. This account of her early life is vivid, it will make you laugh, and it will make you cry. The style is conversational, and is all the more credible for it's lack of exaggeration. This is a straightforward story, well told. It tells of amazing Divine Interventions, of Spiritual Guides, Helpers and Guardian Angels, who have accompanied Patricia through every step of her journey. This book will give hope and comfort to the bereaved, the sick and the lonely. Patricia sadly lost her beloved Husband Ken in October 2009, after a very happy marriage lasting 54 years. This book is almost a poem to Ken. But he has never left her, for there isn no death, as her story will prove. This is a moving memorial to a fine man in Ken, a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother. Gratitude is the heart's memory, and my heart remembers.
