Book Something at the Center

Download or read book Something at the Center written by Barry Harris and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2003-10 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sanskrit word "namaste" roughly translates as "my soul recognizes the divinity in you." Something At The Center explores the soul's recognition of the divine in everyday experience. Truth is found in our daily struggles as well as in deliberate moments of solitude and soul searching. This poetry stands in witness to the discoveries made when we are "fortunate to stand inside God's smile." "This book of poetic intimacy is a poignant reflection of the author's own spiritual journey. Each poem allows the reader access to the joys, sorrows, wonders, fears, questions, parallels and unconditional loves of the "surprise" encounters with God in each of our lives." --Sister Judian Breitenbach, PHJC, The NAMASTÉ Center for Holistic Education "This collection of poems will surely strike a beautiful, divine, harmonic chord in your heart. By peeking into the soul of Barry Harris, we eavesdrop on the thoughts of God." --Brian Luke Seaward, Ph.D., author of Stand Like Mountain, Flow Like Water and Health of the Human Spirit.

Book excerpt: Looking back over the twentieth century, Hartoonian discusses the work of three major architects: Peter Eisenman, Frank Gehry and Bernard Tschumi, in reference to their theoretical positions and historicizes present architecture in the context of the ongoing secularization of the myths surrounding the traditions of nineteenth century architecture in general, and, in particular, Gottfried Semper's discourse on the tectonic. Providing a valuable contribution to the current debates surrounding architectural history and theory, this passionately written book makes valuable reading for any architect.

Book The Center Holds

Download or read book The Center Holds written by Jonathan Alter and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-06-04 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the bestselling author of The Promise, the thrilling story of one of the most momentous contests in American history, the Battle Royale between Obama and his enemies from the 2010 midterms through the 2013 inauguration. The election of 2012 will be remembered as a hinge of history. With huge victories in the 2010 midterm elections the Republican Party had blocked President Obama at every turn and made plans to wrench the country sharply to the right. 2012 offered the GOP a clear shot at controlling all three branches of government and repealing much of the social contract dating back to the New Deal. Facing free-spending billionaires, Fox News, and a concerted effort in 19 states to tilt the election by suppressing Democratic votes, Obama repelled the assault and navigated the nation back to the center. In The Center Holds, Jonathan Alter produces the first full account of America at the crossroads. With exclusive reporting and rare historical insight, he pierces the bubble of the White House and the presidential campaigns in a landmark election that marked the return of big money and the rise of big data. He tells the epic story of an embattled president fighting back with the first campaign of the Digital Age. Alter relates the untold story behind Obama’s highs and lows, from the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound to the frustration of the debt ceiling fiasco to his unexpected run-ins with black and Latino activists. There are fresh details about the Koch brothers, Grover Norquist, Roger Ailes, and the online haters who suffer from “Obama Derangement Syndrome.” Alter takes us inside Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan’s Boston campaign as well as Obama’s disastrous preparation for the first debate. We meet Obama’s analytics geeks working out of “The Cave” and the man who secretly videotaped Romney’s infamous comments on the “47 percent.” The Center Holds will deepen our understanding of the Obama presidency, the stakes of the 2012 election, and the future of the country.

Download or read book Without Spot or Wrinkle written by Karl Koop and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-06-18 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On February 5, 2000, the Institute of Mennonite Studies held a conference at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary entitled "Without Spot or Wrinkle: Reflecting Theologically on the Nature of the Church." This conference gave attention to ecclesiology, in direct response to challenges that Mennonite church bodies in Canada and the United States have been facing in recent times. The phrase "without spot or wrinkle" comes from Ephesians 5:27, a text addressing relationships between husbands and wives within the Christian household. Historically it has also come to symbolize what Mennonites have sometimes believed about the nature of the church. Anabaptists, and Mennonites who came after them, have often maintained that the true church is a gathering of reborn and spiritually regenerated Christians called to be a community free from moral failure. At present, however, some Mennonites are questioning elements of this conceptual legacy, and, in light of personal failings and hurtful church schisms, are expressing doubts about its practical adequacy and theological tenability. The essays in this book do not provide a unified argument. What the authors have in common is concern for the church and commitment to faithfulness. Readers are invited to reflect on the issues and make their own assessments.
