Book Some Reduced Ternary and Quaternary Oxides of Molybdenum Containing Strong Metal metal Bonds Molybdates of ScZn LiZn Zn Ba and Na

Download or read book Some Reduced Ternary and Quaternary Oxides of Molybdenum Containing Strong Metal metal Bonds Molybdates of ScZn LiZn Zn Ba and Na written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ScZnMo3O, LiZn2Mo3O8, and Zn3Mo3O8 were synthesized and crystal structures were determined for the latter two. These oxides contain the same type of triangular molybdenum atom clusters found in Zn2Mo3O8, but each of the trimeric clusters has available one or two additional electrons for participation in metal-metal bonding. Another new ternary oxide containing discrete metal atom clusters is Ba1 14Mo8O16. The structure of this compound consists of molybdenum-oxide cluster chains extended parallel with the c axis. The new compound NaMo4O6 contains infinite chains which are comprised of Mo6O12 clusters fused at opposite edges by removal of two edge-bridging oxygen atoms, and sharing of the metal and remaining oxygen atoms between cluster units. Another new compound, whose structure is closely related to that of NaMo4O6, is Ba0 62Mo4O6. This material also exhibits a sperlattice ordering of barium ions within the channels. Other compounds that have been prepared and also characterized are K/sub 2+x/Mo12O19, Na/sub 2+x/Mo12O19, and CaMo5O8.

Book Food Emulsifiers and Their Applications

Download or read book Food Emulsifiers and Their Applications written by Richard W Hartel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Food emulsions have existed since long before people began to process foods for distribution and consumption. Milk, for example, is a natural emulsion/colloid in which a nutritional fat is stabilized by a milk-fat-globule membrane. Early processed foods were developed when people began to explore the art of cuisine. Butter and gravies were early foods used to enhance flavors and aid in cooking. By contrast, food emulsifiers have only recently been recognized for their abil ity to stabilize foods during processing and distribution. As economies of scale emerged, pressures for higher quality and extension of shelf life prodded the de velopment of food emulsifiers and their adjunct technologies. Natural emulsifiers, such as egg and milk proteins and phospholipids, were the first to be generally utilized. Development of technologies for processing oils, such as refining, bleaching, and hydrogenation, led to the design of synthetic food emulsifiers. Formulation of food emulsions has, until recently, been practiced more as an art than a science. The complexity offood systems has been the barrier to funda mental understanding. Scientists have long studied emulsions using pure water, hydrocarbon, and surfactant, but food systems, by contrast, are typically a com plex mixture of carbohydrate, lipid, protein, salts, and acid. Other surface-active ingredients, such as proteins and phospholipids, can demonstrate either syner- XV xvi Preface gistic or deleterious functionality during processing or in the finished food.

Book Effect of Mineral Organic Microorganism Interactions on Soil and Freshwater Environments

Download or read book Effect of Mineral Organic Microorganism Interactions on Soil and Freshwater Environments written by Jacques Berthelin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-11-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Working Group M.O. (Interactions of soil minerals with organic components and microorganisms) (WGMO) of the International Soil Science Society (ISSS) was founded in 1990 at the 14th World Congress of Soil Science (Kyoto, Japan), with Professor P.M. Huang being the Chairman. Since then, the Working Group M.O. has served as a forum to bring together soil chemists, soil mineralogists, soil microbiologists, soil biochemists, soil physi cists and environmental, ecological, and health scientists. The objective of the Working Group M.O. is to promote research, teaching, and also the exchange of technology concerning the knowledge and the impact of the interactions between minerals-organics and microorganisms on environmental quality, agricultural sustainability, and ecosystem "health". This group is first a scientific group as defined just previously, but it also intends to develop exchange and transfer between scientists and engineers. The first International Meeting organized by Professor P. M. Huang, was held in Edmonton, Canada, in August 1992, where 87 papers were presented by scientists from 20 countries. Following this meeting, a two volume book was edited by P. M. Huang, J. Berthelin, J.-M. Bollag, W. B. McGill, and A. L. Page, entitled "Environmental impact of soil component interaction" : Volume I "Natural and anthropogenic organic-volume II "Metals, other inorganic and microbial activities", and published by c.R.C. Lewis Pub lishers (1995).

Book Progress in the Chemistry of Organic Natural Products 100

Download or read book Progress in the Chemistry of Organic Natural Products 100 written by A. D. Kinghorn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-17 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volumes of this classic series, now referred to simply as "Zechmeister" after its founder, L. Zechmeister, have appeared under the Springer Imprint ever since the series' inauguration in 1938. It is therefore not really surprising to find out that the list of contributing authors, who were awarded a Nobel Prize, is quite long: Kurt Alder, Derek H.R. Barton, George Wells Beadle, Dorothy Crowfoot-Hodgkin, Otto Diels, Hans von Euler-Chelpin, Paul Karrer, Luis Federico Leloir, Linus Pauling, Vladimir Prelog, with Walter Norman Haworth and Adolf F.J. Butenandt serving as members of the editorial board. The volumes contain contributions on various topics related to the origin, distribution, chemistry, synthesis, biochemistry, function or use of various classes of naturally occurring substances ranging from small molecules to biopolymers. Each contribution is written by a recognized authority in his field and provides a comprehensive and up-to-date review of the topic in question. Addressed to biologists, technologists and chemists alike, the series can be used by the expert as a source of information and literature citations and by the non-expert as a means of orientation in a rapidly developing discipline.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early detection of cancer at the cellular level, even before anatomic anomalies are visible, is critical to more efficacious and cost effective diagnosis and therapeutic advances. In Cancer Nanotechnology: Methods and Protocols, an international panel of experts provide the most recent, cutting-edge, "how-to" approaches developed and employed by researchers in a variety of disciplines to identify cancer specific biomarkers, construct suitable multifunctional targeted nanostructure platforms, along with enhanced imaging and therapeutic applications. Covering such topics as multifunctional and multimodal nanoparticles, nanoparticle mediated cancer theranostics, molecular targets for cancer nanotechnology, and nanoparticles for non-invasive image-guided cancer therapy, the volume addresses the key challenges of the field today, specifically targeted and localized delivery of the drugs. As a volume in the highly successful Methods in Molecular BiologyTM series, the protocols chapters include brief introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and notes on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and cutting-edge, Cancer Nanotechnology: Methods and Protocols integrates cancer biology, clinical oncology, molecular cancer imaging, materials science and chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, toxicology, computer science, electrical engineering, chemistry, physics, and mathematics in order to achieve the vital goals of nanotechnology-mediated early cancer detection and more efficacious and less toxic therapies for these devastating diseases.
