Book The Structure of Compact Groups

Download or read book The Structure of Compact Groups written by Karl H. Hofmann and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-06-08 with total page 1034 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed both as a textbook for high-level graduate courses and as a reference for researchers who need to apply the structure and representation theory of compact groups. A gentle introduction to compact groups and their representation theory is followed by self-contained courses on linear and compact Lie groups, and on locally compact abelian groups. This fourth edition was updated with the latest developments in the field.

Book Analysis on Semigroups

Download or read book Analysis on Semigroups written by John F. Berglund and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1989-05-03 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This treatment of analysis on semigroups stresses the functional analytical and dynamical theory of continuous representations of semitopological semigroups. Topics covered include compact semitopological semigroups, invariant means and idempotent means on compact semitopological semigroups, affine compactifications, left multiplicatively continuous functions and weakly left continuous functions, compactifications of infinite direct products, and weakly almost periodic semigroups of Markov operators. Contains over 200 exercises, from simple applications and examples to further developments of the theory.

Book Semigroups and Their Applications

Download or read book Semigroups and Their Applications written by Simon M. Goberstein and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-09-26 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most papers published in this volume are based on lectures presented at the Chico Conference on Semigroups held on the Chico campus of the Cal ifornia State University on April 10-12, 1986. The conference was spon sored by the California State University, Chico in cooperation with the Engineering Computer Sciences Department of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The program included seven 50-minute addresses and seventeen 30-minute lectures. Speakers were invited by the organizing committee consisting of S. M. Goberstein and P. M. Higgins. The purpose of the conference was to bring together some of the leading researchers in the area of semigroup theory for a discussion of major recent developments in the field. The algebraic theory of semigroups is growing so rapidly and new important results are being produced at such a rate that the need for another meeting was well justified. It was hoped that the conference would help to disseminate new results more rapidly among those working in semi groups and related areas and that the exchange of ideas would stimulate research in the subject even further. These hopes were realized beyond all expectations.

Book Theory of Semigroups and Applications

Download or read book Theory of Semigroups and Applications written by Kalyan B. Sinha and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents major topics in semigroups, such as operator theory, partial differential equations, harmonic analysis, probability and statistics and classical and quantum mechanics, and applications. Along with a systematic development of the subject, the book emphasises on the explorations of the contact areas and interfaces, supported by the presentations of explicit computations, wherever feasible. Designed into seven chapters and three appendixes, the book targets to the graduate and senior undergraduate students of mathematics, as well as researchers in the respective areas. The book envisages the pre-requisites of a good understanding of real analysis with elements of the theory of measures and integration, and a first course in functional analysis and in the theory of operators. Chapters 4 through 6 contain advanced topics, which have many interesting applications such as the Feynman–Kac formula, the central limit theorem and the construction of Markov semigroups. Many examples have been given in each chapter, partly to initiate and motivate the theory developed and partly to underscore the applications. The choice of topics in this vastly developed book is a difficult one, and the authors have made an effort to stay closer to applications instead of bringing in too many abstract concepts.

Book Classical Finite Transformation Semigroups

Download or read book Classical Finite Transformation Semigroups written by Olexandr Ganyushkin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-10 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this monograph is to give a self-contained introduction to the modern theory of finite transformation semigroups with a strong emphasis on concrete examples and combinatorial applications. It covers the following topics on the examples of the three classical finite transformation semigroups: transformations and semigroups, ideals and Green's relations, subsemigroups, congruences, endomorphisms, nilpotent subsemigroups, presentations, actions on sets, linear representations, cross-sections and variants. The book contains many exercises and historical comments and is directed first of all to both graduate and postgraduate students looking for an introduction to the theory of transformation semigroups, but also to tutors and researchers.

Book The Structure of Compact Groups

Download or read book The Structure of Compact Groups written by Karl H. Hofmann and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-08-29 with total page 948 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject matter of compact groups is frequently cited in fields like algebra, topology, functional analysis, and theoretical physics. This book serves the dual purpose of providing a textbook on it for upper level graduate courses or seminars, and of serving as a source book for research specialists who need to apply the structure and representation theory of compact groups. After a gentle introduction to compact groups and their representation theory, the book presents self-contained courses on linear Lie groups, on compact Lie groups, and on locally compact abelian groups. Separate appended chapters contain the material for courses on abelian groups and on category theory. However, the thrust of the book points in the direction of the structure theory of not necessarily finite dimensional, nor necessarily commutative, compact groups, unfettered by weight restrictions or dimensional bounds. In the process it utilizes infinite dimensional Lie algebras and the exponential function of arbitrary compact groups. The first edition of 1998 and the second edition of 2006 were well received by reviewers and have been frequently quoted in the areas of instruction and research. For the present new edition the text has been cleaned of typographical flaws and the content has been conceptually sharpened in some places and polished and improved in others. New material has been added to various sections taking into account the progress of research on compact groups both by the authors and other writers. Motivation was provided, among other things, by questions about the structure of compact groups put to the authors by readers through the years following the earlier editions. Accordingly, the authors wished to clarify some aspects of the book which they felt needed improvement. The list of references has increased as the authors included recent publications pertinent to the content of the book.
