Book Distributed Programming in ADA with Protected Objects

Download or read book Distributed Programming in ADA with Protected Objects written by Pascal Ledru and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 1998-12 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As distributed applications become more sophisticated, their implementation becomes more and more difficult. It is therefore important to study how to facilitate the implementation of efficient distributed applications. This thesis reviews the different classes of distributed languages and presents a new approach to develop efficient distributed programs using the Ada language. This approach is compared in detail with existing distributed programming languages, existing approaches to distributed Ada programs, and the Distributed Annex of the new revision of Ada language.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NATO's Division of Scientific and Environmental Affairs sponsored this Advan ced Study Institute because it was felt to be timely to cover this important and challengjng subject for the first time in the framework of NATO's ASI programme. The significance of real-time systems in everyones' life is rapidly growing. The vast spectrum of these systems can be characterised by just a few examples of increasing complexity: controllers in washing machines, air traffic control systems, control and safety systems of nuclear power plants and, finally, future military systems like the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI). The import ance of such systems for the well-being of people requires considerable efforts in research and development of highly reliable real-time systems. Furthermore, the competitiveness and prosperity of entire nations now depend on the early app lication and efficient utilisation of computer integrated manufacturing systems (CIM), of which real-time systems are an essential and decisive part. Owing to its key significance in computerised defence systems, real-time computing has also a special importance for the Alliance. The early research and development activities in this field in the 1960s and 1970s aimed towards improving the then unsatisfactory software situation. Thus, the first high-level real-time languages were defined and developed: RTL/2, Coral 66, Procol, LTR, and PEARL. In close connection with these language develop ments and with the utilisation of special purpose process control peripherals, the research on real-time operating systems advanced considerably.

Book Design and Analysis of Integrated Manufacturing Systems

Download or read book Design and Analysis of Integrated Manufacturing Systems written by W. Dale Compton and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1988-02-01 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design and Analysis of Integrated Manufacturing Systems is a fresh look at manufacturing from a systems point of view. This collection of papers from a symposium sponsored by the National Academy of Engineering explores the need for new technologies, the more effective use of new tools of analysis, and the improved integration of all elements of manufacturing operations, including machines, information, and humans. It is one of the few volumes to include detailed proposals for research that match the needs of industry.

Book Hardware and Software for Real Time Process Control

Download or read book Hardware and Software for Real Time Process Control written by Janusz Zalewski and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1989 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the title suggests, the focus of this volume is on the hardware and software aspects of real time process control, rather than on control problems. The (mostly invited) papers may be divided into three themes: hardware, software, and integration. Providing extensive coverage of the state-of-the-art in real time computer control, the papers examine both recent developments and future trends in the field. The contributors are from universities, industry and government institutions, and the volume will be of interest to hi-tech research institutes in e.g. the nuclear, aerospace, chemical and electronics fields, and to those concerned with standardization issues.

Book Building Parallel Embedded and Real Time Applications with Ada

Download or read book Building Parallel Embedded and Real Time Applications with Ada written by John W. McCormick and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-04-07 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The arrival and popularity of multi-core processors has sparked a renewed interest in the development of parallel programs. Similarly, the availability of low-cost microprocessors and sensors has generated a great interest in embedded real-time programs. This book provides students and programmers whose backgrounds are in traditional sequential programming with the opportunity to expand their capabilities into parallel, embedded, real-time and distributed computing. It also addresses the theoretical foundation of real-time scheduling analysis, focusing on theory that is useful for actual applications. Written by award-winning educators at a level suitable for undergraduates and beginning graduate students, this book is the first truly entry-level textbook in the subject. Complete examples allow readers to understand the context in which a new concept is used, and enable them to build and run the examples, make changes, and observe the results.

Book Delta 4 A Generic Architecture for Dependable Distributed Computing

Download or read book Delta 4 A Generic Architecture for Dependable Distributed Computing written by David Powell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Delta-4 is a 5-nation, 13-partner project that has been investigating the achievement of dependability in open distributed systems, including real-time systems. This book describes the design and validation of the distributed fault-tolerant architecture developed within this project. The key features of the Delta-4 architecture are: (a) a distributed object-oriented application support environment; (b) built-in support for user-transparent fault tolerance; (c) use of multicast or group communication protocols; and (d) use of standard off the-shelf processors and standard local area network technology with minimum specialized hardware. The book is organized as follows: The first 3 chapters give an overview of the architecture's objectives and of the architecture itself, and compare the proposed solutions with other approaches. Chapters 4 to 12 give a more detailed insight into the Delta-4 architectural concepts. Chapters 4 and 5 are devoted to providing a firm set of general concepts and terminology regarding dependable and real-time computing. Chapter 6 is centred on fault-tolerance techniques based on distribution. The description of the architecture itself commences with a description of the Delta-4 application support environment (Deltase) in chapter 7. Two variants of the architecture - the Delta-4 Open System Architecture (OSA) and the Delta-4 Extra Performance Architecture (XPA) - are described respectively in chapters 8 and 9. Both variants of the architecture have a common underlying basis for dependable multicasting, i. e.
