Book Properties of Some Neutron Deficient Isotopes of Strontium Indium and Gallium

Download or read book Properties of Some Neutron Deficient Isotopes of Strontium Indium and Gallium written by Kenneth Cecil Maclure and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Mass spectrograph analysis of minute quantities of radioactive elements produced in bombarded targets is aided by utilizing the beta and gamma radiations from the isotopes for their detection. Success depends on the efficiency of production of positive ions of the element in the mass spectrograph and the length of the half-lives compared to the time required for chemical extraction and mass sseparation. Using this technique the neutron deficient mass spectra of strontium, indium, and gallium were surveyed, extracting th~se. ~~om targets of rubidium chloride, cadmium and zinc, respectively, activated in the proton beam of the McGill cyclotron. Two new strontium isotopes were discovered, with mass numbers 82 and 83, and half-lives measuring 28 days and 33 hours, respectively. Maximum radiation energies were measured by an absorption method. Mass spectra containing all the known neutron deficient isotopes of indium were obtained, and by isolating In107 its half-life of 30 minutes (approx.) was confirmed. The upper limit for half-lives of any lower than 107 was set at 15 minutes. No new gallium isotopes were found, but an upper limit of 30 minutes set for the half-lives of all with mass numbers lower than 66, which includes that for Ga64 reported elsewhere as 48 minutes. Book Building Blocks Of Nuclear Structure The 4th International Spring Seminar On Nuclear Physics

Download or read book Building Blocks Of Nuclear Structure The 4th International Spring Seminar On Nuclear Physics written by Aldo Covello and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-05-31 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Held in May 1992 in Italy, the 4th International Spring Seminar on Nuclear Physics focused on recent developments which enhanced our understanding of the role of the various degrees of freedom which come into play in the nucleus. Consisting of four sessions, the first three sessions dealt with both theoretical and experimental issues centering on quarks and meson degrees of freedom, single-particle degrees of freedom and collective degrees of freedom. The fourth session discussed several important contributions that nuclear structure physics has made to the other research fields.

Book Particle Emission From Nuclei

Download or read book Particle Emission From Nuclei written by Dorin N. Poenaru and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has three volume. The first volume is mainly devoted to the macroscopic-microscopic theory in its traditional form and extended to very high mass and charge asymmetry. Applications of this theory to the emission of different kinds of charged particles from nuclei are presented in the second volume, where recent experimental achievements in alpha decay, proton, and heavy ion (14C, 24Ne, 28Mg, etc.) radioactivities are also discussed. Experiments on spontaneous fission, fission isomers, and more complex phenomena like particle-accompanied fission, delayed processes: p, a, 2p, t, n, 2n, 3n, and the new mechanism of cold fission (or fission with compact shapes) are described in detail in the third volume.

Book Nuclear Structure of the Zirconium Region

Download or read book Nuclear Structure of the Zirconium Region written by Jürgen Eberth and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results important for the general understanding of nuclear structure have emerged from the study of the nuclei in the mass region around the neutron-deficient and neutron-rich Zirconium isotopes. This research report gives the proceedings of a workshop which brought together about 70 experts in the area. Review papers deal with the theoretical interpretation of the unusual properties of these medium-mass nuclei, using the mean field approach, a microscopic description, the interacting boson model and particle rotor calculations. Papers also discuss experimental procedures for studying nuclei far from stability and the possibility of complete spectroscopy. The reviews are supplemented by short contributions presenting very new results. Phenomena discussed include the interplay between subshell effects and the strong proton-neutron interaction in determining nuclear shape, the coexistence of different nuclear shape and the occurrence of fast beta decay.

Book Advances In Nuclear Physics Proceedings Of The International Symposium

Download or read book Advances In Nuclear Physics Proceedings Of The International Symposium written by Dorin Poenaru and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000-06-27 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interest in understanding the physical world that we live in, the origin of its formation and evolution, is reflected in the world-wide activities in Europe, the USA and Japan to set up powerful research facilities providing beams of radioactive nuclei of various kinds, and beams of extremely large energies. At the same time, complex and large detector arrays with improved technical capabilities are built either around these facilities or independently (dedicated to cosmic rays). Recently, spectacular progress has been made in superheavy nuclei, cold binary and ternary fission, nuclear shell structure and nuclear astrophysics, to mention only a few directions. The energy spectrum of cosmic rays exceeds the upper limits provided by artificial accelerators. An international collaboration has committed itself to the installation of an extremely large area detector array, AUGER, in order to study the highest particle energies in the Universe.
