Book excerpt: HOW CAN IT BE WRONG IF IT FEELS SO GOOD Dating an American princess comes with a massive amount of baggage–all of which I’m willing to carry strapped on my back in quicksand and through seven hells. But Jane Cobalt’s baggage, I’m unprepared for. It comes in the form of her five equally famous and notoriously hard-to-please brothers. I want Jane. Completely. Unconditionally. But when there’s a trip scheduled that I can’t be a part of, I only have one option. It’s immoral. Something I’d never consider until now. But, hell, there’s got to be some perks to being a twin. So I’m doing it. I’m switching places with my brother. Done and done. It should have been easy. There were little consequences. Until the storm hit.

Book excerpt: The question of the "historical Adam" is a flashpoint for many evangelical readers and churches. Science-and-theology scholar Loren Haarsma--who has studied, written, and spoken on science and faith for decades--shows it is possible both to affirm what science tells us about human evolution and to maintain belief in the doctrine of original sin. Haarsma argues that there are several possible ways of harmonizing evolution and original sin, taking seriously both Scripture and science. He presents a range of approaches without privileging one over the others, examining the strengths and challenges of each.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Barna research suggests just over half of Americans who profess to be transformed by Christ believe God expects them to be holy and only a third consider themselves to be holy. This is disconcerting. Many of these same believers hold that Adam's sin and overwhelming fleshly desires are at the root of their personal sins. The purpose of this book is to re-examine Adam's legacy, the flesh, what sin really is, and God's holiness expectations of us. Do Adam's sin and fleshly desires force every person on this earth to sin in his likeness? Is sinning daily in thought, word, and deed our highest expectation? Can we love God in such a way that we can consistently obey his commands? We will discover that the impediments to a holy life may be fewer than we think and that what God commands of us we really can do!

We can look forward to eternal rest, where there is no pain, no hunger, no suffering, and no stress. Our journey is not from mountaintop to mountaintop but its down in the valley where, according to the proverb, "the rubber meets the road." We dont always languish on the grassy knolls, but we walk through the valleys, sometimes skipping happily, other times trudging and struggling to continue. The path that Christians follow King David called the path of righteousness. Proverbs calls it the Path of Life. But there are other paths that can take us in a different direction. These paths lead to destruction. Some believe that a Christian can never follow that path to destruction and yet there is a presence who will try to turn us to that path. He will contradict Gods Word. He will challenge Gods will. He will try to make every person doubt that God even exists or, failing that, he will try to make every Christian lose their belief in Gods credibility. Hell try to persuade us to follow our natural desires instead of the will of God. He will try to neutralize the importance of God in our lives and remove Him from the throne of our faith. He wants to be in charge, to rule. He tried to rule once and failed. For his rebellion he was cast out of heaven and the angels who followed him were cast out with him. He now rules, but only in the kingdom of darkness. There is no chance for him defeat God. But he keeps trying. He will keep trying until he is cast out once again, when he will suffer the ultimate defeat. He will be cast into the Lake of Fire, where he will have no more chance to come against God or against Gods people. The danger is that he continually tries to get as many to follow him now as he can, and those who have chosen to follow him in this life will have no choice but to follow him into the Lake of Fire. God is great and life in the Spirit is a great blessing. But do not forget this one thing. Sin lieth at the door.

Book Adam the Fall and Original Sin

Download or read book Adam the Fall and Original Sin written by Michael R. E. Reeves and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2014-10-28 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Christian doctrines of original sin and the historical fall of Adam have been in retreat since the rise of modernity. Here leading scholars present a theological, biblical, and scientific case for the necessity of belief in original sin and the historicity of Adam and Eve in response to contemporary challenges. Representing various Christian traditions, the contributors shed light on recent debates as they present the traditional doctrine of original sin as orthodox, evangelical, and the most theologically mature and cogent synthesis of the biblical witness. This fresh look at a heated topic in evangelical circles will appeal to professors, students, and readers interested in the creation-evolution debate.

Book The Evangelical Universalist

Download or read book The Evangelical Universalist written by Gregory MacDonald and published by SPCK. This book was released on 2012-11-15 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can an orthodox Christian, committed to the historic faith of the Church and the authority of the Bible, be a universalist? Is it possible to believe that salvation is found only by grace, through faith in Christ, and yet to maintain that in the end all people will be saved? Can one believe passionately in mission if one does not think that anyone will be lost forever? Could universalism be consistent with the teachings of the Bible? In The Evangelical Universalist the author argues that the answer is ‘yes!’ to all of these questions. Weaving together philosophical, theological, and biblical considerations, he seeks to show that being a committed universalist is consistent with the central teachings of the biblical texts and of historic Christian theology.
