Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores China's efforts to assimilate Tibet, in the process rewriting Tibetan history to conform to Beijing's goals. Warren Smith provides the historical context for understanding the current situation through an overview of China's actual -- as opposed to its promised -- policies toward Tibet over time. His appraisal of Chinese policy shows that the PRC's ultimate intention is assimilation rather than autonomy. The author argues that Beijing fears that any genuine autonomy or dialogue withthe Dalai Lama will fuel renewed nationalistm in "China's Tibet." as the Chinese leadership calls its possession. This book highlights China's past and current propaganda on Tibet to demonstrate China's sensitivity and defensiveness regarding the legitimacy of its rule. Smith shows how China has tried to use Sino-Tibetan dialogue to defuse Tibetan exile and international criticism, while making no concessions in regard to Tibetan autonomy. In the absence of any solution, Smith advocates the promotion of Tibet's right to self-determination as the most viable strategy for sustaining international attention and maintaining the most essential elements of Tibetan national identity.

Download or read book Tibet written by Claude Arpi and published by Vij Books India Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2019-06-01 with total page 742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 3 of this series “India-Tibet Relation” looks into the consequences of the Chinese presence on the Tibetan plateau. Ironically, the period 1954-1957 saw the first Chinese intrusions into Indian territory, particularly in Barahoti, a small flat grazing ground in today's Uttarakhand. On the diplomatic front, it starts with the Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai's visit to Delhi in June 1954, followed by Jawaharlal Nehru's trip to Beijing in October; at the end of 1956. It culminates with the visit of the Dalai Lama and the Panchen Lama, accompanied by Zhou, to Delhi for the 2500th anniversary of the birth of the Buddha. We witness the slow erosion of the Tibetan control over the Land of Snow's administration and the rapid building of roads towards the Indian borders...including through the Aksai Chin of Ladakh.

This book was released on 2015-03-23 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EDITOR’S NOTE - ‘If you think you are too small to make a difference try sleeping with a mosquito.’ - H.H.The 14th Dalai Lama With these words let’s try to make a difference by contributing little by little to make a better world and to offer our best in our college’s magazine. After a long hiatus we finally present our Gangri-Langtso 2015. This edition we are offering is a special edition. This year we are dedicating our magazine to our Kind and Compassionate spiritual leader H.H.The Dalai Lama in honour of his grand 80th birthday. We are including some of his inspiring quotes which illuminate like a light in the darkness and articles to offer our gratitude to him. Our magazine is a mix of updates, creative expressions and talented work of the students. As student editors, our time has been a period of joy, learning, satisfaction and accomplishment combined with the challenge of creating a good book. These beautiful memories will last forever and they are truly meaningful and worth holding onto. We have experienced self growth alongside the development of this magazine. We thoroughly enjoyed editing, collecting and putting together the articles here. One can see the laughter, joy and struggle of students from thisinstitution in the pictures. This year we are privileged to have had great opportunity to learn the knowledge based on Buddhism, during a two day programme by H.E. Tromthok rinpoche. Medical students studied anatomy and physiology and diagnosis by doctors from Emory University and astro.students studied introduction to astrophysics from Sir Sidhu la. We also marked the success of the 2nd International Body, Mind and Life Conference which was started with the blessing of His Holiness the 14th Dalai ma. This year’s greatest achievement was the visit of the honourable Health Minister of Himachal Pradesh on our institute’s founding anniversary. It’s been a wonderful experience to work alongside a team of great minds and wonderful personalities and this magazine would not have been possible without the commitment, creativity and hardwork from all the members of the editorial team headed by our dignified advisors Dr Namdol Lhamo, Dr Pema Tsetso and TASP Tenzin Loden who has always guided us at every step of the way, with ever lasting patience and constant encouragement. Our sincere gratitude goes to our beloved advisors for their persistent support and guidance. A magazine or any kind of work is a product of a team work. From the director who provided us the opportunity and administrator with the financial support and students for the essays and advisors and editors to the printing press. These all contribute to our magazine and for which we are truly grateful. I would like to thank our friends for their creative articles which serves as the heart of the magazine. The magazine usually serve as a memento as we can carry it with us as we move on to our different chapters of our lives. We hope that this magazine will hold a treasured and cherished place by our readers. Tenzin Saldon 19th medical batch Editor
