Book Mathematical Theory of Compressible Fluid Flow

Download or read book Mathematical Theory of Compressible Fluid Flow written by Richard Von Mises and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A pioneer in the fields of statistics and probability theory, Richard von Mises (1883–1953) made notable advances in boundary-layer-flow theory and airfoil design. This text on compressible flow, unfinished upon his sudden death, was subsequently completed in accordance with his plans, and von Mises' first three chapters were augmented with a survey of the theory of steady plane flow. Suitable as a text for advanced undergraduate and graduate students — as well as a reference for professionals — Mathematical Theory of Compressible Fluid Flow examines the fundamentals of high-speed flows, with detailed considerations of general theorems, conservation equations, waves, shocks, and nonisentropic flows. In this, the final work of his distinguished career, von Mises summarizes his extensive knowledge of a central branch of fluid mechanics. Characteristically, he pays particular attention to the basics, both conceptual and mathematical. The novel concept of a specifying equation clarifies the role of thermodynamics in the mechanics of compressible fluids. The general theory of characteristics receives a remarkably complete and simple treatment, with detailed applications, and the theory of shocks as asymptotic phenomena appears within the context of rational mechanics.

Book A Summary of Meteorological Conditions Associated with Aircraft Icing and a Proposed Method of Selecting Design Criterions for Ice protection Equipment

Download or read book A Summary of Meteorological Conditions Associated with Aircraft Icing and a Proposed Method of Selecting Design Criterions for Ice protection Equipment written by Paul T. Hacker and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data on the meteorological parameters pertinent to the aircraft icing problem are so summarized as to give the frequency of occurrence of observed icing situations according to two of the parameters. The summarized data indicate that statistical relations exist between some of the parameters. A method, based upon the collection efficiency of an airfoil and the frequency occurrence of icing situations with various liquid-water contents and mean-effective droplet sizes, is proposed for the selection of design criterions for ice-protection equipment. The method provides a convenient means of calculating the percenteage of icing encounters in which the water collection exceeds the design rate.

Book Analytical Fluid Dynamics Third Edition

Download or read book Analytical Fluid Dynamics Third Edition written by George Emanuel and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 651 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Edition Now Covers Shock-Wave Analysis An in-depth presentation of analytical methods and physical foundations, Analytical Fluid Dynamics, Third Edition breaks down the "how" and "why" of fluid dynamics. While continuing to cover the most fundamental topics in fluid mechanics, this latest work emphasizes advanced analytical approaches to aid in the analytical process and corresponding physical interpretation. It also addresses the need for a more flexible mathematical language (utilizing vector and tensor analysis and transformation theory) to cover the growing complexity of fluid dynamics. Revised and updated, the text centers on shock-wave structure, shock-wave derivatives, and shock-produced vorticity; supersonic diffusers; thrust and lift from an asymmetric nozzle; and outlines operator methods and laminar boundary-layer theory. In addition, the discussion introduces pertinent assumptions, reasons for studying a particular topic, background discussion, illustrative examples, and numerous end-of-chapter problems. Utilizing a wide variety of topics on inviscid and viscous fluid dynamics, the author covers material that includes: Viscous dissipation The second law of thermodynamics Calorically imperfect gas flows Aerodynamic sweep Shock-wave interference Unsteady one-dimensional flow Internal ballistics Force and momentum balance The Substitution Principle Rarefaction shock waves A comprehensive treatment of flow property derivatives just downstream of an unsteady three-dimensional shock Shock-generated vorticity Triple points An extended version of the Navier‒Stokes equations Shock-free supersonic diffusers Lift and thrust from an asymmetric nozzle Analytical Fluid Dynamics, Third Edition outlines the basics of analytical fluid mechanics while emphasizing analytical approaches to fluid dynamics. Covering the material in-depth, this book provides an authoritative interpretation of formulations and procedures in analytical fluid dynamics, and offers analytical solutions to fluid dynamic problems.
