Book Experimental Investigation of a Large scale Two dimensional Mixed compression Inlet System

Download or read book Experimental Investigation of a Large scale Two dimensional Mixed compression Inlet System written by Norman D. Wong and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A large-scale, variable-geometry inlet model with a design Mach number of 3.0 was tested at Mach numbers from 1.55 to 3.2. Variable features of the inlet for off-design operation are an adjustable-height ramp system and a translating cowl. This report presents experimental results for a diffuser and boundary-layer bleed configuration which was optimized at the design Mach number. Overall performance was high with throat-mounted vortex generators, which were effective in reducing flow distortion in the subsonic diffuser at the higher Mach numbers.

Book Design and Analysis Tool for External Compression Supersonic Inlets

Download or read book Design and Analysis Tool for External Compression Supersonic Inlets written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-05-22 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computational tool named SUPIN has been developed to design and analyze external-compression supersonic inlets for aircraft at cruise speeds from Mach 1.6 to 2.0. The inlet types available include the axisymmetric outward-turning, two-dimensional single-duct, two-dimensional bifurcated-duct, and streamline-traced Busemann inlets. The aerodynamic performance is characterized by the flow rates, total pressure recovery, and drag. The inlet flowfield is divided into parts to provide a framework for the geometry and aerodynamic modeling and the parts are defined in terms of geometric factors. The low-fidelity aerodynamic analysis and design methods are based on analytic, empirical, and numerical methods which provide for quick analysis. SUPIN provides inlet geometry in the form of coordinates and surface grids useable by grid generation methods for higher-fidelity computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis. SUPIN is demonstrated through a series of design studies and CFD analyses were performed to verify some of the analysis results. Slater, John W. Book Theory of Aerospace Propulsion

Download or read book Theory of Aerospace Propulsion written by Pasquale M. Sforza and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2016-08-13 with total page 850 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theory of Aerospace Propulsion, Second Edition, teaches engineering students how to utilize the fundamental principles of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics to analyze aircraft engines, understand the common gas turbine aircraft propulsion systems, be able to determine the applicability of each, perform system studies of aircraft engine systems for specified flight conditions and preliminary aerothermal design of turbomachinery components, and conceive, analyze, and optimize competing preliminary designs for conventional and unconventional missions. This updated edition has been fully revised, with new content, new examples and problems, and improved illustrations to better facilitate learning of key concepts. Includes broader coverage than that found in most other books, including coverage of propellers, nuclear rockets, and space propulsion to allows analysis and design of more types of propulsion systems Provides in-depth, quantitative treatments of the components of jet propulsion engines, including the tools for evaluation and component matching for optimal system performance Contains additional worked examples and progressively challenging end-of- chapter exercises that provide practice for analysis, preliminary design, and systems integration

Book Supersonic Inlets

Download or read book Supersonic Inlets written by Ione D. V. Faro and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design and operation of supersonic inlets is discussed. The means by which the incoming flow may be decelerated to a subsonic velocity are enumerated and evaluated. This report covers diffusers which employ internal compression, external compression or a combination of the two. Experimentally determined values of the total pressure recovery, the capture-area ratio and the inlet drag are compared with those determined from available theories for all types of diffusers. The discussions which in general refer to axisymmetric configurations usually may be applied with equal validity to two-dimensional diffusers. However, some specific problems of the latter are treated. The effects of boundary layer are considered in some detail as are the problems of oscillating flow. (Author).

Book Mechanical Engineers Handbook Volume 4

Download or read book Mechanical Engineers Handbook Volume 4 written by Myer Kutz and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-03-02 with total page 1200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The engineer's ready reference for mechanical power and heat Mechanical Engineer's Handbook provides the most comprehensive coverage of the entire discipline, with a focus on explanation and analysis. Packaged as a modular approach, these books are designed to be used either individually or as a set, providing engineers with a thorough, detailed, ready reference on topics that may fall outside their scope of expertise. Each book provides discussion and examples as opposed to straight data and calculations, giving readers the immediate background they need while pointing them toward more in-depth information as necessary. Volume 4: Energy and Power covers the essentials of fluids, thermodynamics, entropy, and heat, with chapters dedicated to individual applications such as air heating, cryogenic engineering, indoor environmental control, and more. Readers will find detailed guidance toward fuel sources and their technologies, as well as a general overview of the mechanics of combustion. No single engineer can be a specialist in all areas that they are called on to work in the diverse industries and job functions they occupy. This book gives them a resource for finding the information they need, with a focus on topics related to the productions, transmission, and use of mechanical power and heat. Understand the nature of energy and its proper measurement and analysis Learn how the mechanics of energy apply to furnaces, refrigeration, thermal systems, and more Examine the and pros and cons of petroleum, coal, biofuel, solar, wind, and geothermal power Review the mechanical parts that generate, transmit, and store different types of power, and the applicable guidelines Engineers must frequently refer to data tables, standards, and other list-type references, but this book is different; instead of just providing the answer, it explains why the answer is what it is. Engineers will appreciate this approach, and come to find Volume 4: Energy and Power an invaluable reference.
