Book Special Measurements of Dynamic Pressure Versus Time and Distance

Download or read book Special Measurements of Dynamic Pressure Versus Time and Distance written by J. R. BANISTER and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pitch and yaw of shock afterflow as a function of time, dynamic pressure parameters, and the contributions of air and dust to dynamic pressure were measured over desert, asphalt, and water surfaces during a nuclear explosion. Little or no yaw of flow was detected, but pitch of flow was found to be considerable over all three surfaces to 2,500 feet from ground zero. Over desert and asphalt, pitch-time records displayed a consistent pattern of initial upward flow followed by horizontal flow, or at 2,500-foot stations, downward flow. Pitch-time records over water are erratic and little understood. Air dynamic pressures at 3-foot elevations, 2,000 and 2,500 feet from ground zero, were highest over desert and higher over asphalt than water. Considerable dust loading occurred on the desert where dust dynamic pressure exceeded that of air. Particle loading was present over asphalt, but the extent was not determined. No tangible evidence of water loading was found. Results suggest that high air dynamic pressures over desert and asphalt arise from air velocities higher than would be expected from the Rankine Hugoniot relations and measured overpressures. Book DYNAMIC PRESSURE MEASUREMENTS

Download or read book DYNAMIC PRESSURE MEASUREMENTS written by C. D. Broyles and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of Project 1.3 were to spot-check the theoretical relationship between dynamic pressure and overpressure in the 10-to-40-psi overpressure range and to evaluate a group of gages measuring various blast parameters. The one measurement of dynamic pressure in Shot 6 agreed with that implied by the overpressure; in this case the shock had traveled 800 feet over land immediately before reaching the gage. In Shots 4 and 5 measurements of dynamic pressure by the gage group were all high; in this case the gages were near the water's edge. These latter records also showed peculiar waveforms, indicating that the shock had picked up water and/or dust. The force plate and density gage seem to be suitable for field use, but their response to dust must yet be studied. (Author).

Book Dynamic Wall Pressure Measurements

Download or read book Dynamic Wall Pressure Measurements written by Patrick Leehey and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The state of the art in measurement and interpretation of dynamic wall pressure beneath a turbulent boundary layer is reviewed. The mean pressure increase for shear flow over an orifice in a wall is explained, using triple deck theory, to stem from streamline contraction resulting from removal of the no-slip boundary condition. The effect in viscous hole diameters is too small to suggest that the dynamic pressure increase reported by Bull and Thomas (1976) for flow over a 'pinhole' microphone stems from this mechanism. It appears that any failure of high frequency spectra to collapse when made non-dimensional on inner wall variables is more likely due to transducer proudness or to error in the measurement of mean wall shear stress. The Corcos model is shown to be inadequate to describe cross-spectrum measurements. Both amplitude and phase depend also on the ratio of transducer separation to displacement boundary layer thickness. (JES).
