Book The Combinatorics of Network Reliability

Download or read book The Combinatorics of Network Reliability written by Charles J. Colbourn and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1987 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops combinatorial tools which are useful for reliability analysis, as demonstrated with a probabilistic network model. Basic results in combinatorial enumeration are reviewed, along with classical theorems on connectivity and cutsets. More developed analysis involves extremal set theory, matroid theory, and polyhedral combinatorics, among other themes. The presentation includes proofs or their outlines for most of the main theorems, with the aim of highlighting combinatorial ideas. Details of relevant work are presented wherever feasible. The work is intended for advanced mathematics students and computer science specialists.

Book Advances in Stochastic Models for Reliablity Quality and Safety

Download or read book Advances in Stochastic Models for Reliablity Quality and Safety written by Jensen Kahle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fast technological development produces systems of ever-increasing complex ity. The demand for reliable functioning of these systems has become more and more important. Thus, there is a need for highly reliable technical devices and systems, for monitoring and controlling their functioning and for planning maintenance and corrective actions to fulfill given requirements considering eco nomic limitations. These tasks reflect the wide field of engineering activities that are accompa nied by and based on a wide range of stochastical models. The book presents the main contributions to a workshop on Stochastic Models of Reliability, Qual ity, and Safety held in Schierke near Magdeburg, Germany. This workshop was part of a series of meetings that take place every two years organized by the Society of Reliability, Quality and Safety. The basic idea of these workshops is to bring together theorists, applied statisticians, and practitioners to exchange experiences and ideas of common interest. The book contains recent results in reliability and related fields. The presentation aims at making at least a part of the results accessible to engineers.

Book Combinatorial Network Theory

Download or read book Combinatorial Network Theory written by Ding-Zhu Du and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-09 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A basic problem for the interconnection of communications media is to design interconnection networks for specific needs. For example, to minimize delay and to maximize reliability, networks are required that have minimum diameter and maximum connectivity under certain conditions. The book provides a recent solution to this problem. The subject of all five chapters is the interconnection problem. The first two chapters deal with Cayley digraphs which are candidates for networks of maximum connectivity with given degree and number of nodes. Chapter 3 addresses Bruijn digraphs, Kautz digraphs, and their generalizations, which are candidates for networks of minimum diameter and maximum connectivity with given degree and number of nodes. Chapter 4 studies double loop networks, and Chapter 5 considers broadcasting and the Gossiping problem. All the chapters emphasize the combinatorial aspects of network theory. Audience: A vital reference for graduate students and researchers in applied mathematics and theoretical computer science.

Book Advances in Stochastic Models for Reliablity Quality and Safety

Download or read book Advances in Stochastic Models for Reliablity Quality and Safety written by Waltraud Kahle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998-08-25 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 24 papers from a 1997 workshop near Magdeburg, Germany, theoreticians, applied statisticians, and practitioners discuss their current work and compare and evaluate models and methods. Within sections on lifetime analysis, reliability analysis, network analysis, and process control, they consider such topics as acceptance regions and their application in lifetime estimation, stochastic models for the return of used devices, a unified approach to the reliability of recurrent structures, and controlling a process with three different states. Book Algebraic and Computational Aspects of Network Reliability and Problems

Download or read book Algebraic and Computational Aspects of Network Reliability and Problems written by Douglas Shier and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is important to be able to assess the reliability of a complex system in terms of the reliabilities of its components. This type of problem arises with increasing frequency in the analysis of telecommunication and distribution systems, which can be represented as networks. The present research employs an underlying algebraic structure to study network reliability problems and to develop new algorithms for their solution. Iterative techniques for calculating reliability (both exactly and approximately) have been developed for both general networks and a difficult class of specialized networks. These techniques allow the solution of fairly complex networks, ones that have previously resisted analysis. In addition, the underlying structure of network reliability problems has been approached by studying the combinatorial properties of a certain polynomial defined with respect to the underlying graph topology.

Book Elements of Combinatorial Computing

Download or read book Elements of Combinatorial Computing written by Mark B. Wells and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elements of Combinatorial Computing focuses on the processes, principles, methodologies, and approaches involved in combinatorial computing. The publication first takes a look at a language for combinatorial computing, language implementation and program efficiency, and computer representation of mathematical objects. Discussions focus on geometric configurations, elementary combinatorial configurations, sets and vectors, natural numbers, program optimization, data representation, set manipulation, notation for iteration and recursion, and nested iteration and recursive programming. The text then takes a look at backtrack programming, generation of elementary configurations, and additional basic techniques and manipulations. Topics include isomorph rejection, transformations, finite set covering, sorting techniques, permutations with repeated objects, compositions, partitions, subsets and combinations, and basic backtracking and impasse detection. The book examines additional basic techniques and manipulations and applications of advanced algorithms. The publication is highly recommended for computer science experts and researchers interested in the elements in combinatorial computing.
