Book Methods for Analysis of Nonlinear Elliptic Boundary Value Problems

Download or read book Methods for Analysis of Nonlinear Elliptic Boundary Value Problems written by I. V. Skrypnik and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1994-01-01 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of nonlinear elliptic equations is currently one of the most actively developing branches of the theory of partial differential equations. This book investigates boundary value problems for nonlinear elliptic equations of arbitrary order. In addition to monotone operator methods, a broad range of applications of topological methods to nonlinear differential equations is presented: solvability, estimation of the number of solutions, and the branching of solutions of nonlinear equations. Skrypnik establishes, by various procedures, a priori estimates and the regularity of solutions of nonlinear elliptic equations of arbitrary order. Also covered are methods of homogenization of nonlinear elliptic problems in perforated domains. The book is suitable for use in graduate courses in differential equations and nonlinear functional analysis.

Book The Boundary Value Problems of Mathematical Physics

Download or read book The Boundary Value Problems of Mathematical Physics written by O.A. Ladyzhenskaya and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present edition I have included "Supplements and Problems" located at the end of each chapter. This was done with the aim of illustrating the possibilities of the methods contained in the book, as well as with the desire to make good on what I have attempted to do over the course of many years for my students-to awaken their creativity, providing topics for independent work. The source of my own initial research was the famous two-volume book Methods of Mathematical Physics by D. Hilbert and R. Courant, and a series of original articles and surveys on partial differential equations and their applications to problems in theoretical mechanics and physics. The works of K. o. Friedrichs, which were in keeping with my own perception of the subject, had an especially strong influence on me. I was guided by the desire to prove, as simply as possible, that, like systems of n linear algebraic equations in n unknowns, the solvability of basic boundary value (and initial-boundary value) problems for partial differential equations is a consequence of the uniqueness theorems in a "sufficiently large" function space. This desire was successfully realized thanks to the introduction of various classes of general solutions and to an elaboration of the methods of proof for the corresponding uniqueness theorems. This was accomplished on the basis of comparatively simple integral inequalities for arbitrary functions and of a priori estimates of the solutions of the problems without enlisting any special representations of those solutions.

Book Constructive Methods for Linear and Nonlinear Boundary Value Problems for Analytic Functions

Download or read book Constructive Methods for Linear and Nonlinear Boundary Value Problems for Analytic Functions written by v Mityushev and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-11-29 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Constructive methods developed in the framework of analytic functions effectively extend the use of mathematical constructions, both within different branches of mathematics and to other disciplines. This monograph presents some constructive methods-based primarily on original techniques-for boundary value problems, both linear and nonlinear. From among the many applications to which these methods can apply, the authors focus on interesting problems associated with composite materials with a finite number of inclusions. How far can one go in the solutions of problems in nonlinear mechanics and physics using the ideas of analytic functions? What is the difference between linear and nonlinear cases from the qualitative point of view? What kinds of additional techniques should one use in investigating nonlinear problems? Constructive Methods for Linear and Nonlinear Boundary Value Problems serves to answer these questions, and presents many results to Westerners for the first time. Among the most interesting of these is the complete solution of the Riemann-Hilbert problem for multiply connected domains. The results offered in Constructive Methods for Linear and Nonlinear Boundary Value Problems are prepared for direct application. A historical survey along with background material, and an in-depth presentation of practical methods make this a self-contained volume useful to experts in analytic function theory, to non-specialists, and even to non-mathematicians who can apply the methods to their research in mechanics and physics.

Book Boundary value Problems with Free Boundaries for Elliptic Systems of Equations

Download or read book Boundary value Problems with Free Boundaries for Elliptic Systems of Equations written by Valentin Nikolaevich Monakhov and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1983 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with certain classes of nonlinear problems for elliptic systems of partial differential equations: boundary-value problems with free boundaries. The first part has to do with the general theory of boundary-value problems for analytic functions and its applications to hydrodynamics. The second presents the theory of quasiconformal mappings, along with the theory of boundary-value problems for elliptic systems of equations and applications of it to problems in the mechanics of continuous media with free boundaries: problems in subsonic gas dynamics, filtration theory, and problems in elastico-plasticity.

Book On the Solvability of Nonlinear Boundary Value Problems on Time Scales

Download or read book On the Solvability of Nonlinear Boundary Value Problems on Time Scales written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this manuscript we study boundary value problems on time scales. First we will examine weakly nonlinear boundary value problems and analyze problems at resonance; that is, problems where the homogeneous linear boundary value problem has a nontrivial solution space. We establish conditions for the existence of solutions and discuss the dependence of solutions on parameters. Next we consider the existence and properties of solutions to nonlinear dynamic equations of the subject to global boundary conditions. Our most significant result in this section concerns the existence of solutions of problems where the nonlinearity exhibits sublinear growth. Finally we establish sufficient conditions for the solvability of nonlinear scalar two-point boundary value problems at resonance. As a consequence of our results we are able to provide easily verifiable conditions for the existence of periodic behavior for dynamic equations on time scales.

Book Singular Differential and Integral Equations with Applications

Download or read book Singular Differential and Integral Equations with Applications written by R.P. Agarwal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last century many problems which arose in the science, engineer ing and technology literature involved nonlinear complex phenomena. In many situations these natural phenomena give rise to (i). ordinary differ ential equations which are singular in the independent and/or dependent variables together with initial and boundary conditions, and (ii). Volterra and Fredholm type integral equations. As one might expect general exis tence results were difficult to establish for the problems which arose. Indeed until the early 1990's only very special examples were examined and these examples were usually tackled using some special device, which was usually only applicable to the particular problem under investigation. However in the 1990's new results in inequality and fixed point theory were used to present a very general existence theory for singular problems. This mono graph presents an up to date account of the literature on singular problems. One of our aims also is to present recent theory on singular differential and integral equations to a new and wider audience. The book presents a compact, thorough, and self-contained account for singular problems. An important feature of this book is that we illustrate how easily the theory can be applied to discuss many real world examples of current interest. In Chapter 1 we study differential equations which are singular in the independent variable. We begin with some standard notation in Section 1. 2 and introduce LP-Caratheodory functions. Some fixed point theorems, the Arzela- Ascoli theorem and Banach's theorem are also stated here.

Book On the Solvability of Nonlinear Discrete Multipoint Boundary Value Problems

Download or read book On the Solvability of Nonlinear Discrete Multipoint Boundary Value Problems written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this manuscript we study nonlinear, discrete, multipoint boundary value problems. We investigate two types of problems. We first consider scalar, nonlinear, multipoint boundary value problems. We provide sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions. By allowing more general boundary conditions and by imposing less restrictions on the nonlinearities, we obtain results that extend previous work in the area of discrete boundary value problems. [8,9]. We also study weakly nonlinear, discrete systems. We provide sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions and we present a qualitative analysis of the way the solutions depend on the parameter.
