Book Finite Element Analysis of Nonlinear Oscillations and Flutter of Shells of Revolution

Download or read book Finite Element Analysis of Nonlinear Oscillations and Flutter of Shells of Revolution written by A. Maewal and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In chapter I, a finite element methodology is described for analysis of steady nonlinear periodic oscillations of axisymmetric shells. The technique is a combination of asymptotic analysis and the finite element method and the results that it yields include the significant effect of nonlinear interaction between the waves that travel in opposite directions along the circumference. In chapter II, an extended numerical method is described which is applicable to shells rotating at a constant speed about their geometrical axes. In the final chapter, a general solution for the problem of nonlinear flutter of axisymmetric shells is presented. The method is expected to be useful for developing a numerical scheme for analyzing this class of problems. Originator-supplied keywords include: Nonlinear flutter.

Book The Finite Element Analysis of Shells Fundamentals

Download or read book The Finite Element Analysis of Shells Fundamentals written by Dominique Chapelle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shell structures are found abundantly in engineering designs and are routinely analyzed with finite element methods. The objective of this book is to present, in a unified manner, modern finite element procedures for general shell analysis. The first chapters introduce the basic concepts for the analysis of shells, explain the mathematical preliminaries, and discuss the mathematical models of plates and shells including their asymptotic properties. The following chapters deal with finite element discretization methods for plates and shells. At the end of the book, applications of these methods in modern engineering practice are described and an overview of nonlinear shell analysis is given.

Book Flexible Shells

Download or read book Flexible Shells written by E. L. Axelrad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Euromech-Colloquium Nr. 165 The shell-theory development has changed its emphasis during the last two decades. Nonlinear problems have become its main motive. But the analysis was until recently predominantly devoted to shells designed for strength and stiffness. Nonlinearity is here relevant to buckling, to intensively vary able stress states. These are (with exception of some limit cases) covered by the quasi-shallow shell theory. The emphasis of the nonlinear analysis begins to shift further - to shells which are designed for and actually capable of large elastic displacements. These shells, used in industry for over a century, have been recently termedj1exible shells. The European Mechanics Colloquium 165. was concerned with the theory of elastic shells in connection with its applications to these shells. The Colloquium was intended to discuss: 1. The formulations of the nonlinear shell theory, different in the generality of kine matic hypothesis, and in the choice of dependent variables. 2. The specialization of the shell theory for the class of shells and the respective elastic stress states assuring flexibility. 3. Possibilities to deal with the complications of the buckling analysis of flexible shells, caused by the precritial perturbations of their shape and stress state. 4. Methods of solution appropriate for the nonlinear flexible-shell problems. 5. Applications of the theory. There were 71 participants the sessions were presided over (in that order) by E. Reissner, J. G. Simmonds, W. T. Koiter, R. C. Tennyson, F. A. Emmerling, E. Rarnm, E. L. Axelrad.

Book Nonlinear Static and Dynamic Analysis of Shells of Revolution Under Axisymmetric Loading

Download or read book Nonlinear Static and Dynamic Analysis of Shells of Revolution Under Axisymmetric Loading written by Sambamurthy Nagarajan and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method of analyzing nonlinear static and dynamic responses of deformable solids has been developed based on an incremental variational formulation using the Lagrangian mode of description. The material nonlinearity due to plasticity or viscoplasticity as well as the geometric nonlinearity due to large displacements are considered. The equations of motion are obtained in a linearized incremental form using the principle of virtual work and solved using step-by-step numerical integration procedures. Equilibrium check is made at the end of each step and the residual forces are added to the next increment for improved accuracy over the pure incremental method. For elastic-plastic solutions the flow theory of plasticity is used along with the von Mises yield condition for isotropically hardening materials. The viscoplastic constitutive theory is also in the form of an associated flow law and capable of considering strain rate sensitive behavior. The viscoplastic strains are taken into account using an initial strain formulation. The discretization of the structure is achieved by the use of degenerate isoparametric finite elements and the computer codes that have been developed are capable of analyzing large axisymmetric deformations of shells of revolution. Book Nonlinear Analysis of Axisymmetric Shells

Download or read book Nonlinear Analysis of Axisymmetric Shells written by Haksik Shin and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study is concerned with nonlinear analysis of toroidal shells and storage tanks. The study serves to demonstrate the usefulness of the differential quadrature method in this area of computational mechanics. The problem of the response of axisymmetric toroidal shells to uniform external pressure forms the first part of this study. Nonlinear thin shell theory, accounting for large displacements, is employed. The new differential quadrature method is used to obtain numerical results. For validation a bifurcation solution is found using the finite element method. The commercial code ADINA is used for this purpose. Finally the two methods are used to provide results for eight cases of toroidal shells. An axisymmetric analysis of a liquid storage tank with a circular base plate resting on an elastic foundation forms the second part of this study. Nonlinear shell theory is used for the tank wall and base plate, while a linear model is used for the foundation. A convergence study is carried out to determine the appropriate analysis parameters for the method. Partial validation is obtained by comparison with previously published results. These results are compared with finite element method results. Additional results are presented covering a wide range of tank geometric parameters.

Book Nonlinear Finite Element Methods

Download or read book Nonlinear Finite Element Methods written by Peter Wriggers and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-24 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finite element methods have become ever more important to engineers as tools for design and optimization, now even for solving non-linear technological problems. However, several aspects must be considered for finite-element simulations which are specific for non-linear problems: These problems require the knowledge and the understanding of theoretical foundations and their finite-element discretization as well as algorithms for solving the non-linear equations. This book provides the reader with the required knowledge covering the complete field of finite element analyses in solid mechanics. It is written for advanced students in engineering fields but serves also as an introduction into non-linear simulation for the practising engineer.
