Book excerpt: Motion Simulation and Mechanism Design with SOLIDWORKS Motion 2021 is written to help you become familiar with SOLIDWORKS Motion, an add-on module of the SOLIDWORKS software family. This book covers the basic concepts and frequently used commands required to advance readers from a novice to intermediate level in using SOLIDWORKS Motion. SOLIDWORKS Motion allows you to use solid models created in SOLIDWORKS to simulate and visualize mechanism motion and performance. Using SOLIDWORKS Motion early in the product development stage could prevent costly redesign due to design defects found in the physical testing phase. Therefore, using SOLIDWORKS Motion contributes to a more cost effective, reliable, and efficient product design process. Basic concepts discussed in this book include model generation, such as creating assembly mates for proper motion; carrying out simulation and animation; and visualizing simulation results, such as graphs and spreadsheet data. These concepts are introduced using simple, yet realistic examples. Verifying the results obtained from the computer simulation is extremely important. One of the unique features of this book is the incorporation of theoretical discussions for kinematic and dynamic analyses in conjunction with the simulation results obtained using SOLIDWORKS Motion. Verifying the simulation results will increase your confidence in using the software and prevent you from being fooled by erroneous simulations. This book covers the following functionality of SOLIDWORKS Motion 2021 Model generation Creating assembly mates Performing simulations Creating animations Visualizing simulation results

Book Analysis of Machine Elements Using SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2021

Download or read book Analysis of Machine Elements Using SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2021 written by Shahin S. Nudehi and published by SDC Publications. This book was released on 2021-07-03 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: • Designed for first-time SOLIDWORKS Simulation users • Focuses on examples commonly found in Design of Machine Elements courses • Many problems are accompanied by solutions using classical equations • Combines step-by-step tutorials with detailed explanations of why each step is taken Analysis of Machine Elements Using SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2021 is written primarily for first-time SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2021 users who wish to understand finite element analysis capabilities applicable to stress analysis of mechanical elements. The focus of examples is on problems commonly found in introductory, undergraduate, Design of Machine Elements or similarly named courses. In order to be compatible with most machine design textbooks, this text begins with problems that can be solved with a basic understanding of mechanics of materials. Problem types quickly migrate to include states of stress found in more specialized situations common to a design of mechanical elements course. Paralleling this progression of problem types, each chapter introduces new software concepts and capabilities. Many examples are accompanied by problem solutions based on use of classical equations for stress determination. Unlike many step-by-step user guides that only list a succession of steps, which if followed correctly lead to successful solution of a problem, this text attempts to provide insight into why each step is performed. This approach amplifies two fundamental tenets of this text. The first is that a better understanding of course topics related to stress determination is realized when classical methods and finite element solutions are considered together. The second tenet is that finite element solutions should always be verified by checking, whether by classical stress equations or experimentation. Each chapter begins with a list of learning objectives related to specific capabilities of the SOLIDWORKS Simulation program introduced in that chapter. Most software capabilities are repeated in subsequent examples so that users gain familiarity with their purpose and are capable of using them in future problems. All end-of-chapter problems are accompanied by evaluation "check sheets" to facilitate grading assignments. Table of Contents Introduction 1. Stress Analysis Using SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2. Curved Beam Analysis 3. Stress Concentration Analysis 4. Thin and Thick Wall Pressure Vessels 5. Interference Fit Analysis 6. Contact Analysis 7. Bolted Joint Analysis 8. Design Optimization 9. Elastic Buckling 10. Fatigue Testing Analysis 11. Thermal Stress Analysis Appendix A: Organizing Assignments Using MS Word Appendix B: Alternate Method to Change Screen Background Color Index

There are three goals for this book. The primary goal of this book is not only to help you pass the CSWA, CSWA-SD, CSWSA-S and CSWA-AM exams, but also to ensure that you understand and comprehend the concepts and implementation details of the four certification processes. The second goal is to provide the most comprehensive coverage of CSWA, CSWA-SD, CSWSA-S and CSWA-AM exam related topics available, without too much coverage of topics not on the exam. The third and ultimate goal is to get you from where you are today to the point that you can confidently pass the CSWA, CSWA-SD, CSWSA-S and CSWA-AM exams. CSWA Exam The CSWA certification indicates a foundation in and apprentice knowledge of 3D CAD design and engineering practices and principles. The intended audience for this section of the book is anyone trying to take and pass the CSWA exam with a minimum of 6 - 9 months of SOLIDWORKS experience and basic knowledge of engineering fundamentals and practices. SOLIDWORKS recommends that you review their SOLIDWORKS Tutorials on Parts, Assemblies and Drawings as a prerequisite and have at least 45 hours of classroom time learning SOLIDWORKS or using SOLIDWORKS with basic engineering design principles and practices. CSWA-SD Exam The Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate Sustainable Design (CSWA-SD) certification indicates a foundation in and apprentice knowledge of demonstrating an understanding in the principles of environmental assessment and sustainable design. This section of the book is intended for anyone interested in Sustainable design as well as life cycle assessment and trying to take and pass the CSWA-SD exam. Although no hands-on usage of SOLIDWORKS is required for the CSWA-SD certification exam, it is a good idea to review the SOLIDWORKS SustainablityXpress and SOLIDWORKS Sustainability tutorials inside of SOLIDWORKS to better understand the actual workflow. The CSWA-SD is based off the SOLIDWORKS Sustainable Design Guide that incorporates concepts including sustainability, environmental assessment and life cycle impact assessment. CSWSA-S Exam The Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate Simulation (CSWSA-S) certification indicates a foundation in and apprentice knowledge of demonstrating an understanding in the principles of stress analysis and the Finite Element Method (FEM). Throughout this book the author introduces you to new commands that are required to pass the Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate exam, as listed on the SOLIDWORKS website. A dedicated chapter provides you with details about the exam, as well as a practice test to help you prepare for the actual exam. SOLIDWORKS is an easy to use CAD software that includes many time saving tools that will enable new and experienced users to complete design tasks faster than before. Most commands covered in this book have advanced options, which may not be covered in this book. This is meant to be a starting point to help new users to learn the basic and most frequently used commands.

Book Solidworks Simulation for Real Weldments

Download or read book Solidworks Simulation for Real Weldments written by Stone Lake Analytics and published by Stone Lake Analytics, LLC. This book was released on 2019-01-04 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design tools, including Solidworks, are brimming with features to help manage cut lists, joints, weld schedules, and such to help real weldments get built. We are left wanting for an easy way to put true representations of welded structures into our simulation tools. Peak stresses in many weldments can be expected at welded joints, and the diligent analyst wants to provide good answers about their structural response. We don't think there is an easy way, but we do have a plan. Common solid operations in Solidworks can be used to model welds explicitly. The model needs to reflect both where the weld bead adds material, how it penetrates into the joint, and where mating parts are not joined. Modern computers and solvers can quickly generate good linear static results on such detailed models.
