Book Solids Liquids Gases Let s Investigate

Download or read book Solids Liquids Gases Let s Investigate written by Ruth Owen and published by Science Essentials. This book was released on 2021 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do we burp when we take a swig of a fizzy drink? What are air and water actually made of? And when a liquid raw egg becomes a solid fried egg, can this change of state ever be reversible? Packed with hands-on investigations, this book explores topics including, the properties of solids, liquids, and gases, how liquids become solids and how solids become liquids, how the water cycle works, why seawater is salty, and how changing states make recycling possible. Readers will get the chance to do experiments including discovering if there is water vapor in the classroom around them, separating mixed up substances, and even weighing the air.

Book Investigating Solids Liquids and Gases with Toys

Download or read book Investigating Solids Liquids and Gases with Toys written by Jerry Sarquis and published by . This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Innovative investigations like these will empower middle and high school students to explore the states of matter and changes of state-using inexpensive toys and common household items like balloons, paper bags, Silly Putty, facial tissues, and plastic Easter eggs. Classroom-tested and proven effective, these activities draw students in with toys, gadgetry, fun-to-do experiments, and observations of scientific phenomena in everyday events. Students will see solid rock candy form as a sugar solution evaporates; inflate a balloon using dry ice; and use the BedBugs game to learn about the behavior of solids, liquids, and gases. You'll find 24 motivating, reproducible projects in all-ready to use and clearly referenced to the National Science Education Standards, with comprehensive materials lists, procedures, content review, and extension activities included. Teaching Science with TOYS is an activity-based, discovery-oriented approach developed by National Science Foundation-funded teacher training programs at Miami University of Ohio. The programs promote toys and household items as ideal science materials because they're already a user-friendly, everyday part of a young person's world.

Book Luminescence and the Solid State

Download or read book Luminescence and the Solid State written by Richard C. Ropp and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the discovery of the transistor in 1948, the study of the solid state has been burgeoning. Recently, cold fusion and the ceramic superconductor have given cause for excitement. There are two approaches possible to this area of science, namely, that of solid state physics and solid state chemistry, although both overlap extensively. The former is more concerned with electronic states in solids (including electromagnetics) whereas the latter is more concerned with interactions of atoms in solids. The area of solid state physics is well documented, however, there are very few texts which deal with solid state chemistry. Luminescence and the Solid State has been written to fulfil this need. The concepts regarding luminescence and phosphors are unique and have been covered extensively providing a useful reference source for anyone requiring such knowledge as a basis for further study. The discussion on the defect state, which is handled in chapter two, can be applied to many other systems, e.g. ceramic superconductors. The book has extensive, useful equations and figures, the derivations of which are simple and easy to follow. This useful, comprehensive text can be used for self-study and should also prove invaluable in a graduate study as an introduction to the solid state and luminescence.
