Download or read book Proceedings of an International Conference on Solid Solid Phase Transformations in Inorganic Materials 2005 Displacive Transformations written by James M. Howe and published by Wiley. This book was released on 2010-04-19 with total page 1152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains two volumes of the latest developments in diffusional and displacive phase transformations in materials. It also delves into the emerging areas of phase transformations research, such as transformations in nano- and constrained-systems as well as computer modeling of phase transformations. It covers recent advances in the fundamental aspects of solid-to-solid phase transformations in inorganic materials by making critical comparisons between experiment, theory and simulation in metals, ceramics, minerals and other materials. Traditional topics, such as order/disorder reactions and precipitation, are examined as well as experimental techniques, such as atom probe field ion microscopy and electron backscattered diffraction, and new methods of microstructural simulation in both diffusional and displacive phase transformations. From the Solid-to-Solid Phase Transformation in Inorganic Materials Conference which was held in Phoenix, Arizona, May 29 - June 3, 2005.

Book Phase Transformations and Material Instabilities in Solids

Download or read book Phase Transformations and Material Instabilities in Solids written by Morton Gurtin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phase Transformations and Material Instabilities in Solids contains the proceedings of an interdisciplinary conference on phase transitions and material instabilities in solids, conducted by the Mathematics Research Center of the University of Wisconsin-Madison on October 11-13, 1983 in Madison, Wisconsin. The papers explore phase transformations and material instabilities in solids and cover topics ranging from equilibrium shapes of surfaces to morphological instabilities and dendrite formation. Shock-induced phase transitions are also considered. Comprised of 11 chapters, this book begins with a discussion on material instabilities and the calculus of variations, followed by an analysis of mechanical analogs of coexistent phases. A model for the formation of shear bands in simple shear that involves the description of irreversible mechanical shear and the resulting heat release is then presented. Subsequent chapters focus on the Cauchy and Born hypotheses for crystals; the arrangement of coherent phases in a loaded body; one-dimensional shock layers in Korteweg fluids; and dynamics of first-order phase transitions. The final chapter deals with equilibrium shapes of surfaces and grain boundaries. This monograph will be of interest to students, practitioners, and researchers in mathematics and statistical physics.
