Book excerpt: This book presents peer-reviewed papers based on the oral and poster presentations during the 5th International Conference on Renewable Energy Sources, which was held from June 20 to 22, 2018 in Krynica, Poland. The scope of the conference included a wide range of topics in renewable energy technology, with a major focus on biomass, solar energy and geothermal energy, but also extending to heat pumps, fuel cells, wind energy, energy storage, and the modelling and optimization of renewable energy systems. This edition of the conference had a special focus on the role of renewable energy in the reduction of air pollution in the Eastern European region. Traditionally this conference is a unique occasion for gathering Polish and international researchers’ perspectives on renewable energy sources, and furthermore of balancing them against governmental policy considerations. Accordingly, the conference offered also panels to discuss best practices and solutions with local entrepreneurs and federal government bodies. The meeting attracts not only scientist but also industry representatives as well as local and federal government personnel. In 2018, the conference was organized by the University of Agriculture in Krakow in cooperation with AGH University of Science and Technology (Krakow), University of Žilina, Silesian University of Technology, International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (CIGR) and Polish Society of Agricultural Engineering. Honorary auspices were given by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Republic of Poland, Rector of the University of Agriculture in Krakow and Rector of the AGH University of Science and Technology.

Book Power Plant Life Management and Performance Improvement

Download or read book Power Plant Life Management and Performance Improvement written by John E Oakey and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-09-28 with total page 705 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coal- and gas-based power plants currently supply the largest proportion of the world's power generation capacity, and are required to operate to increasingly stringent environmental standards. Higher temperature combustion is therefore being adopted to improve plant efficiency and to maintain net power output given the energy penalty that integration of advanced emissions control systems cause. However, such operating regimes also serve to intensify degradation mechanisms within power plant systems, potentially affecting their reliability and lifespan.Power plant life management and performance improvement critically reviews the fundamental degradation mechanisms that affect conventional power plant systems and components, as well as examining the operation and maintenance approaches and advanced plant rejuvenation and retrofit options that the industry are applying to ensure overall plant performance improvement and life management.Part one initially reviews plant operation issues, including fuel flexibility, condition monitoring and performance assessment. Parts two, three and four focus on coal boiler plant, gas turbine plant, and steam boiler and turbine plant respectively, reviewing environmental degradation mechanisms affecting plant components and their mitigation via advances in materials selection and life management approaches, such as repair, refurbishment and upgrade. Finally, part five reviews issues relevant to the performance management and improvement of advanced heat exchangers and power plant welds. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, Power plant life management and performance improvement is an essential reference for power plant operators, industrial engineers and metallurgists, and researchers interested in this important field. - Provides an overview of the improvements to plant efficiency in coal- and gas-based power plants - Critically reviews the fundamental degradation mechanisms that affect conventional power plant systems and components, noting mitigation routes alongside monitoring and assessment methods - Addresses plant operation issues including fuel flexibility, condition monitoring and performance assessment

Book Explosion Risk of Solid Biofuels

Download or read book Explosion Risk of Solid Biofuels written by Nieves Fernandez-Anez and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-07 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book consists of two parts, the first of which focuses on combustible solids, and the second on the industrial position concerning these materials. It includes practical data and information on all biomass sources, from woodchips to sewage sludge, as well as mixtures. Biomass materials are rapidly becoming a fundamental energy source, and their consumption will surpass that of fossil fuels in the near future. The risk of explosion of biomass dust materials can lead to massive economic and human losses worldwide, and applies to every facility that produces, processes or handles these materials. A better understanding of the risk could help reduce the number of accidents; until now, however, no book has been published on the subject. This book is the first to gather the latest information, both from the authors and from other researchers, while also providing explanations and clarifications of how to correctly determine the most relevant parameters and use them to ensure safer environments. It was written in clear, straightforward language to make it accessible for a broad range of readers, from students to senior researchers.

Book Determination of Carbon Hydrogen Nitrogen and Oxygen in Bio Oils Laboratory Analytical Procedure LAP Issue Date October 7 2021

Download or read book Determination of Carbon Hydrogen Nitrogen and Oxygen in Bio Oils Laboratory Analytical Procedure LAP Issue Date October 7 2021 written by and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The determination of total carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen in bio-oils is important as these values can be used to track the carbon balance of production processes as well as calculate total oxygen content by difference. Oxygen content of bio-oils is a key metric for production and upgrading strategies as these are typically aimed at reducing oxygen. Oxygenates in bio-oils contribute to poor hydrocarbon miscibility, high acidity, high viscosity, and poor stability. Upgrading of bio-oils via deoxygenation produces hydrocarbons which can be used to generate feedstocks for renewable fuels and chemicals. In this Laboratory Analytical Procedure (LAP), combustion-based ultimate analysis is used to determine the weight percent (wt%) of C, H, and N in bio-oils and upgraded products. Ultimate analysis uses high temperatures and a pure oxygen environment to completely combust organic samples to carbon dioxide (CO2), water (H2O), and nitrogen oxides (NOx). In this procedure the amount of C and H in the sample are quantified by measuring resultant CO2 and H2O with Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). For N, NOx is reduced to nitrogen (N2) which is measured with a thermal conductivity detector (TCD), providing total N content.

Book Plastics Waste Management

Download or read book Plastics Waste Management written by Muralisrinivasan Natamai Subramanian and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-09-02 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides clear explanations for newcomers to the subject as well as contemporary details and theory for the experienced user in plastics waste management. It is seldom that a day goes by without another story or photo regarding the problem of plastics waste in the oceans or landfills. While important efforts are being made to clear up the waste, this book looks at the underlying causes and focuses on plastics waste management. Plastics manufacturers have been slow to recognize their environmental impact compared with more directly polluting industries. However, the environmental pressures concerning plastics have forced the industry to examine their own recycling operations and implement plastics waste management. Plastics Waste Management realizes two ideals: That all plastics should be able to persist for as long as plastics are required, and that all plastics are recycled in a uniform manner regardless of the length of time for which it persists. The book examines plastics waste management and systems for the environment, as well the management approaches and techniques which are appropriate for managing the environment. It serves as an excellent and thoughtful plastics waste management handbook. This groundbreaking book: Identifies deficiencies in plastics waste management Extrapolates from experiences to draw some conclusions about plastics waste for persistence Describes methods how the waste related processing techniques should be used in recycling Shows how the consumer and industry can assess the performance of plastics waste management Explains waste utilization by recycling techniques as well as waste reduction Life cycle assessment as an important technique for recycling of persistent plastics waste.
