Book Solid Geometry Classic Reprint

Download or read book Solid Geometry Classic Reprint written by Clara Avis Hart and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-24 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Solid Geometry IN addition to the features of the Plane Geometry, which are emphasized in the Solid as well, the chief characteristic of this book is the establishment, at every point, of the 'vital relation between the Solid and the Plane Geometry. Many theorems in Solid Geometry have been proved, and many problems have been solved, by reducing them to a plane, and simply applying the corresponding principle of Plane Geometry. Again, many proofs of Plane Geometry have been made to serve as proofs of corresponding theorems in Solid Geometry by merely mak ing the proper changes in terms used. (see 703, 786, 794, 813, 853, 924, 951, 955, 961, etc.) Other special features of the book may be summarized as follows: The student is given every possible aid in forming his early space concepts. In the early work in Solid Geometry, the average student experiences difficulty in fully comprehending space relations; that is, in seeing geometric figures in space. The student is aided in overcoming this difficulty by the intro duction of many easy and practical questions and exercises, as well as by being encouraged to make his figures. (see As a further aid in this direction, reproductions of models made by students themselves are shown in a group (p. And at various points throughout Book VI. This book was released on 2016-10-20 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Solid Geometry, With Problems and Applications IN re-writing the Solid Geometry the authors have consist ently carried out the distinctive features described in the preface of the Plane Geometry. Mention is here made only of certain matters which are particularly emphasized in the Solid Geometry. Owing to the greater maturity of the pupils it has been pos sible to make the logical structure of the Solid Geometry more prominent than in the Plane Geometry. The axioms are stated and applied at the precise points where they are to be used. Theorems are no longer quoted in the proofs but are only referred to by paragraph numbers while with increasing frequency the student is left to his own devices in supplying the reasons and even in filling in the logical steps of the argu ment. For convenience of reference the axioms and theorems of plane geometry which are used in the Solid Geometry are collected in the Introduction. Book Text Book on Solid Jr Or Descriptive Geometry Vol 1 of 2 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Text Book on Solid Jr Or Descriptive Geometry Vol 1 of 2 Classic Reprint written by David Allan Low and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-09 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from d104-Book on Solid Jr. or Descriptive Geometry, Vol. 1 of 2 The Author, in writing this text-book, has endeavoured to meet the wants of both, elementary and advanced students, and he believes that it will be found to contain all the descriptive geometry which is usually required by engineering and architectural draughtsmen. But while making the book comprehensive, and illustrating it fully, it has not been made of an inconvenient size for use in large classes. The treatment of the subject in this work is slightly different from that in any existing books. The problems are stated in a more comprehensive way, and are made to include more cases than is usual with other writers. After the statement of the problem follows the general solution, which is usually given without reference to any particular example Next comes the application of the problem to one or more examples. In many cases the student may not fully understand the general solution of a problem until he has worked out the example which illustrates it. The advantage of this mode of treatment is, that it is more systematic, and enables the student to get a more intelligent and comprehensive grasp of the subject. After working the examples and mastering the general solution of a problem, the student is better able to cope with any fresh examples which may come before him, than if he had learned the subject from examples only. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Elementary Treatise on Solid Geometry, Vol. 3 The present work is intended as an introductory text-book for the use of Students reading for the Mathematical Tripos. Many of the higher applications of the subject are therefore either omitted entirely or treated very briefly. At the same time the Author believes that the book includes as much as the great majority of Cambridge Students have time to master thoroughly, while those who are desirous of making farther acquaintance with the subject will perhaps find a work like the present not unsuitable as an introduction to the more complete treatises of Salmon and others. The Author begs to thank those of his friends who have kindly assisted him by revising the manuscript and proof sheets, and will feel obliged to any one who will offer corrections or improvements. Examples, selected chiefly from recent College and University Examination Papers, will be found at the end of each Chapter. Cambridge, August, 1865.
