Book Solar Radiation Data Forecast and Interpolation Analysis Folder I

Download or read book Solar Radiation Data Forecast and Interpolation Analysis Folder I written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data were evaluated from the rehabilitated 52-station SOLMET solar radiation network. For economic reasons, it is important that solar radiation data measured at a station represent as broad an area within the contiguous United States as possible, and that techniques be established to transform radiation measurements taken on a horizontal surface to what would be seen by an inclined surface. Methods applicable to these problems have been developed. A Climatological Cell Statistics (CCS) Method was developed to obtain the statistics of up to 24 variables occurring in combination with each other using surface meteorological data and to relate these statistics to the solar radiation measurements. A method to evaluate the differences between two insolation data sets, called the Wedge Method, was developed to determine the representative area of a radiation measurement site. These methods were used to evaluate the capabilities of the NOAA Solar Radiation Model to interpolate between measurement sites. Twenty-four methods of calculating solar radiation on inclined surfaces were investigated. All algorithms were rewritten in a common convention and nomenclature and the measurements required for each method were categorized.

Book Solar Irradiance and Photovoltaic Power Forecasting

Download or read book Solar Irradiance and Photovoltaic Power Forecasting written by Dazhi Yang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-02-05 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forecasting plays an indispensable role in grid integration of solar energy, which is an important pathway toward the grand goal of achieving planetary carbon neutrality. This rather specialized field of solar forecasting constitutes both irradiance and photovoltaic power forecasting. Its dependence on atmospheric sciences and implications for power system operations and planning make the multi-disciplinary nature of solar forecasting immediately obvious. Advances in solar forecasting represent a quiet revolution, as the landscape of solar forecasting research and practice has dramatically advanced as compared to just a decade ago. Solar Irradiance and Photovoltaic Power Forecasting provides the reader with a holistic view of all major aspects of solar forecasting: the philosophy, statistical preliminaries, data and software, base forecasting methods, post-processing techniques, forecast verification tools, irradiance-to-power conversion sequences, and the hierarchical and firm forecasting framework. The book’s scope and subject matter are designed to help anyone entering the field or wishing to stay current in understanding solar forecasting theory and applications. The text provides concrete and honest advice, methodological details and algorithms, and broader perspectives for solar forecasting. Both authors are internationally recognized experts in the field, with notable accomplishments in both academia and industry. Each author has many years of experience serving as editors of top journals in solar energy meteorology. The authors, as forecasters, are concerned not merely with delivering the technical specifics through this book, but more so with the hopes of steering future solar forecasting research in a direction that can truly expand the boundary of forecasting science.

Book Solar Radiation Modelling and Remote Sensing

Download or read book Solar Radiation Modelling and Remote Sensing written by Dimitris Kaskaoutis and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-06-17 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accurate solar radiation knowledge and its characterization on the Earth’s surface are of high interest in many aspects of environmental and engineering sciences. Modeling of solar irradiance from satellite imagery has become the most widely used method for retrieving solar irradiance information under total sky conditions, particularly in the solar energy community. Solar radiation modeling, forecasting, and characterization continue to be broad areas of study, research, and development in the scientific community. This Special Issue contains a small sample of the current activities in this field. Both the environmental and climatology community, as the solar energy world, share a great interest in improving modeling tools and capabilities for obtaining more reliable and accurate knowledge of solar irradiance components worldwide. The work presented in this Special Issue also remarks on the significant role that remote sensing technologies play in retrieving and forecasting solar radiation information.

Book Advances in Numerical Model Data Assimilation and Observations for Hazardous Weather Prediction

Download or read book Advances in Numerical Model Data Assimilation and Observations for Hazardous Weather Prediction written by Feifei Shen and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-10-30 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accurate and timely forecasting of hazardous weather events induced by meso-scale convection systems (MCSs) is the key to safeguarding lives and property. Yet the MCS forecasting is challenging due to imperfect initial numerical conditions that lack meso-scale convective information and multi-scale dynamic and thermodynamic consistency. Remote sensing observations are the primary source of estimating weather conditions, such as moisture, wind velocity, and precipitation. It is of fundamental pivotality to develop data assimilation technologies to enhance applications of multi-source observations. Performance assessments of new types of observations facilitate the network designment for regional- and storm-scale numerical models. This Research Topic seeks submissions underscoring the improvement of the accuracy of MCS predictions, warnings, and decision support for high-impact weather events as well as observation network designs.
