Book Solar Flare Port Charlotte

Download or read book Solar Flare Port Charlotte written by James Haick III and published by Scout Comics. This book was released on 2022-07-26 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Could you survive in a world without electricity? A solar flare has hit Earth and wiped out most of the world’s electronics. As society unravels, Jake Clifford must travel from south Florida to Tennessee to reunite with his young daughter. Join him on his quest as he confronts the best and worst of humanity. Solar Flare is a post-apocalyptic science fiction drama containing aspects of the suspense and action genres as told through a journey-story plot construct. In this tale, where the world is exposed not in the light of day, but in the cover of darkness, Solar Flare aims to showcase themes of perseverance, resilience, and unlikely heroes through the portrayal of believable characters placed in unbelievable circumstances. Solar Flare’s unique backdrop of the aurora borealis, similar to the Northern Lights, sets the comic apart in the visual effects department as well, unearthing a never-before seen constant sky that is both visually pleasing and completely plausible in our current reality. The world as we know it is powered by the grid. Electricity is the lifeblood by which our society is sustained, but that power does not just live within the grid. From the lamps that light our homes to the LED screens that illuminate our phones, life as we know it is lived in the spotlight, the fringes long forgotten. But what would happen if the world suddenly went dark? How would society withstand its very core being ripped apart from within. Further, who would we become if allowed to thrive in the dark? Solar Flare aims to peel back the layers of this question to unearth the truth of the human condition and the pulse by which it is powered. Solar Flare follows a group of friends that starts the day before a solar flare makes contact with Earth, wiping out all electricity and modern technology with one fatal blow. The groups primary goal is to travel safely (in a world with no functioning modern transportation) from Florida to Tennessee to deliver valuable information to the government that will help save millions of lives. The journey begins when scientist Dr. Jerry Willman visits Florida on business the day before the solar flare occurs. He enlists his childhood friend, Jake Clifford (the main protagonist of the story,) to travel with him and his assistant, Layla, to a secret Navy compound in Tennessee. This compound will act as ground zero for re-establishing the country’s electrical infrastructure. Jake’s main purpose for going is to reunite with his 5-year-old daughter who was vacationing in the neighboring state of North Carolina. He recruits a few friends to join them on their journey. The main antagonist in this season is Jake’s uncle Ken who is part of a militia called The New Americans. When Ken learns of the groups plans he wants deliver this info to the leaders of his militia in order to move up the ranks. Jake must adapt to this new world in order to be reunited with his daughter. Along his journey, the lines quickly blur between survival and destruction. The stakes are high and the time is dire. As the story unfolds, Jake must make harrowing decision after harrowing decision, each time the stakes rising not just for himself, but by those who have entrusted their lives to him by simply following his lead. When times are dire and the world is in chaos, can a hero remain pure, or does saving others mean the destruction of yourself?

Book excerpt: There is a force out there that could destroy our world in minutes. . . . Solar flares—brief bursts of radiation from our sun—have always existed and have never been particularly dangerous. Nature hasn’t changed. But we have. By making our world so dependent on electricity delivered by huge, unprotected power grids we have inadvertently placed humanity at terrible risk. As bestselling author Whitley Strieber explores in this urgent new work, a powerful solar flare could demolish our electrical delivery system, wiping away centuries of civilization in minutes and drastically changing our world. Such a scenario is altogether plausible—and it is the single most dangerous single thing that could happen to our civilization, more dangerous than the most massive earthquake or volcano, more dangerous than climate change, more dangerous even than nuclear war. What is worse, solar flares of a now-dangerous intensity are not all that uncommon; and not only that, our electrical and electronic infrastructure is becoming so extensive, and thus so fragile, that smaller and smaller solar flares can pose more and more serious hazards. Due to the astonishing unwillingness of power companies to cooperate, good programs that would make us safer, and that are supported by both political parties, have been routinely prevented from being enacted. In Solar Flares: What You Need to Know, Strieber reveals the dangers behind solar flares, tracks the disastrous damage they could cause, surveys what they would do to our world in the here-and-now, and explains what nations and individuals must do to prepare for them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solar Flare SurvivalWe live only 8 light minutes from a massive, tumultuous, unpredictable star. The Sun provides us with the energy to sustain life on our planet, but that gift comes with a price. There has been more intense solar activity in the last 50 years than there has been in the past 11,000 years. As we approach the apexes of both the 11-year solar cycle and the longer Grand Solar Cycle, our Sun is continuing to produce increasingly destructive storms. A proton storm blasted from the Sun can travel as fast as 4 million miles per hour and have the energy of 100 billion atomic bombs. In the last 20 years we have witnessed solar storms powerful enough to destroy most of the electronics on our planet and impact human health. So far none of them have been pointed in our direction. We now know that the question is not if a major event will occur--But when?Solar Flare Survival first discusses what our scientists have learned so far about the Sun and how it affects our planet.Furthur chapters illustrate how the Sun can, and has in the past wreaked havoc on worldwide national power grids, spacecraft, and electronics.Key questions are discussed objectively drawing from some of the latest technology and current scientific studies. How do solar flares affect the human body? Can solar flares trigger earthquakes? Is a Faraday cage that has been designed to withstand a geomagnetic storm adequate for an EMP attack as well?Faraday cage theory, design and construction for the common man.Where to get current alerts and information about extreme space weather, and how to understand them.
