Book BIOFUELS

Download or read book BIOFUELS written by B. Bharathiraja and published by MJP Publisher. This book was released on 2019-06-10 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today the world is facing three critical problems: (i) High fuel prices, (ii) Climatic changes (iii) Air pollution. Currently there are several important problems to be resolved worldwide: (1) high need for energy, (2) high depletion of non-renewable energy resources and (3) high local and global environmental pollution. This book “Biofuels - A Promising alternate for next generation fuels” deals with the production of biofuels. The biggest difference between biofuels and petroleum feedstock is oxygen content. Biofuels have oxygen levels from 10% to 45% while petroleum has essentially none making the chemical properties of biofuels very different from petroleum. Oxygenates are just pre-used hydrocarbons having a structure that provides a reasonable antiknock value. Most traditional biofuels, such as ethanol from corn, wheat, or sugar beets, and biodiesel from oil seeds, are produced from classic agricultural food crops that require high-quality agricultural land for growth. The term biofuel is referred to as liquid or gaseous fuels for the transport sector that are predominantly produced from biomass. There are several reasons for biofuels to be considered as relevant technologies by both developing and industrialized countries. They include energy security reasons, environmental concerns, foreign exchange savings, and socioeconomic issues related to the rural sector. Biomass can be converted to biofuels through various methods like chemical, such as biomethanol and biodiesel production, thermochemical, such as bio-oil, bio-syngas, biohydrogen production, and biochemical, such as bioethanol, biogas, biodiesel and biohydrogen production.

Download or read book Biological Solar Energy Conversion written by Akira Mitsui and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biological Solar Energy Conversion is a publication comprised of formal papers presented during the 1976 conference on Biological Solar Energy Conversion held at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. The conference aims to bring together a group of scientists who have made significant observations concerned with various aspects of solar energy conversion. The ideas and information presented in this publication intend to expand the understanding of the readers about the biological processes involved in biological solar energy conversion and direct them to practical application. This compilation is divided into four sections and consists of 25 scholarly articles about the subject matter. The first section includes papers that discuss developments in the methods employed in the capture and utilization of solar energy. The second and third sections feature papers that dealt with the synthesis of organic compounds from carbon dioxide and nitrogen fixation and production of single cell protein. The last section of the publication presents papers that show future trends and practical applications involved in the biological conversion of solar energy. This book will be an excellent reference for researchers working on energy research and development. This collection of scientific articles can also be an invaluable reference for agriculture, meteorology, plant sciences, agronomy, and biology students.

Download or read book Solar Fuels written by Nurdan Demirci Sankir and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-05-31 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most important obstacle to solar meeting all our energy needs is that solar energy is not always accessible and therefore cannot be used when needed. Therefore, the conversion of solar energy into chemical energy, which has become more and more important in recent years, is a groundbreaking topic in the field of renewable energy. This type of chemical energy is called solar fuel. Hydrogen, methanol, methane, and carbon monoxide are among the solar fuels, which can be produced via solar-thermal, artificial photosynthesis, photocatalytic or photoelectrochemical routes. The Advances in Solar Cell Materials and Storage series aims to provide information on new and cutting-edge materials, advanced solar cell designs and architecture, and new concepts in photovoltaic conversion and storage. Solar Fuels, which is the third volume of this series, compiles the objectives related to the new semiconductor materials and manufacturing techniques for solar fuel generation. Chapters are written by distinguished authors who have extensive experience in their fields. A multidisciplinary contributor profile including chemical engineering, materials science, environmental engineering, and mechanical and aerospace engineering provides a broader point of view and coverage of the topic. Therefore, readers absolutely will have a chance to learn about not only the fundamentals but also the various aspects of the materials science and manufacturing technologies for solar fuel production. Moreover, readers from diverse fields will definitely take advantage of this book to comprehend the impacts of solar energy conversion in chemical form.

This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biochemical and Photosynthetic Aspects of Energy Production describes the biological processes that may serve to provide alternative energy sources. This book contains nine chapters that specifically tackle the utilization of biological and agricultural wastes, energy farming, and leaf protein. The introductory chapters deal with the dynamics of seaweed growth, the physical properties controlling them, and the elements of algal-bacterial systems. These topics are followed by a discussion on the potential for the production of meaningful amounts of gaseous and liquid fuels, as well as selected organic chemicals from residues and biomass. The following chapters examine the fundamentals and principles of nitrogen fixation, the factors that affect the possibilities of success in energy farming projects, and the development and atmospheric consequences of oxygen and carbon dioxide cycles. The concluding chapters explore the mechanism of glycerol production in the Dunaliella alga and the energy analysis in biofuel production. Biochemists, biologists, and researchers in the fields of alternative fuels will find this book of great value.
