Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Our energy system faces a fundamental transformation and renewable energies will play a dominant role in the future energy supply. One of the promising solutions is the use of solar thermal energy in buildings, for cooling, heating and domestic hot water preparation. Solar thermal systems for providing heat and cold to industrial processes show a high potential, too. In the last decade, the application of solar driven cooling systems achieved a significant progress. Steps forward have been taken in the design of system concepts to specific needs and in more reliable and efficient operation of the installed plants. New systems are available on the market and cover a broad range of cooling capacities and driving temperatures. This handbook provides an overview on the various solutions to convert solar heat into useful cooling, reports about experiences made with realized installations and gives support in the design process. Its use will strongly contribute to achieve high quality solar cooling systems which provide significant energy savings and fulfil the user’s requirements in a safe and reliable way.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solar cooling is most effective where it is most needed - in the tropics. Most developing countries lie in the hotter climatic regions, where cooling facilities are essential to promote the well-being, productivity and comfort of the population. Paradoxically, solar air-conditioning can contribute significantly to the alleviation of the problem. This book includes fully detailed treatment of the theory and applications of the techniques involved: vapour absorption systems, solar absorption systems, solar absorption cooling, radiative cooling and desiccant cooling. Particular applications stressed include the use of passive cooling in buildings and the provision of efficient refrigeration facilities, the latter being essential for the storage of vaccines in health-care programmes for the eradication of infectious diseases throughout the developing world.

Book Solar assisted Air conditioning in Buildings

Download or read book Solar assisted Air conditioning in Buildings written by Hans-Martin Henning and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air conditioning contributes significantly to the energy consumption of buildings in many countries. A promising possibility for energy reduction is the use of solar thermal energy in solar-assisted air-conditioning systems. The main advantage of this technology is that cooling loads and solar gains occur at the same time, at least on a seasonal level. However, until now only a few systems have been installed world-wide and design and operation experiences are fairly poor. This new handbook provides support for the design of this exciting and innovative technology.

Book Design of a Solar assisted Liquid Desiccant based evaporative Cooler

Download or read book Design of a Solar assisted Liquid Desiccant based evaporative Cooler written by Zaeem Ahmer and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2018-02-26 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2017 in the subject Engineering - Power Engineering, Eastern Mediterranean University, language: English, abstract: The increase of occupant comfort demands are leading to rising requirement for air conditioning, but deteriorating global energy and environment crisis are starving for energy saving and environmental protection. The need to come up with the new energy saving as well as environmental friendly air conditioning systems has been more urgent than ever before. In hot and humid areas, the liquid desiccant air-conditioning systems based on evaporative cooling was proposed as a promising invention. This system overcomes the difficulty of evaporative cooler increased humidity with cooling, which makes it unsuitable for hot and humid climates, by dehumidifying the air first and then cooling it inside an evaporative cooler with water. The heating effect of dehumidification process is compensated by cooling water circulation. The use of dehumidifier in conjunction with an evaporative cooler increases the efficiency of the system. Some of the advantages of using this system are: it can remove the air latent load, environmental friendly, removes the pollutants from the process air and reduces the amount of the electrical energy consumed. The primary objective of this project is to design a solar based liquid desiccant evaporative system to purify and supply cool air. Liquid desiccant dehumidification has been proven to be an effective method to extract the moisture of air with relatively less energy consumption, especially compared with conventional vapor compression system. Inside the dehumidifier we used calcium chloride solution which after some period of time gets diluted with water and loses its moisture absorbing capacity and therefore, needs to be heated in the solar collector to ensure that the liquid desiccant does not lose its absorption capacity. In this project, several different aspects in solar assisted liquid desiccant based evaporative cooler have been considered. Some of these aspects include the availability of the materials, manufacturability of the product, sustainability of the product, health and safety regulations and the environmental effects of the product.

Book The Solar Cooling Design Guide

Download or read book The Solar Cooling Design Guide written by Daniel Mugnier and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-12-04 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solar cooling systems can be a cost-effective and environmentally attractive air-conditioning solution. The design of such systems, however, is complex. Research carried out under the aegis of the International Energy Agency's Solar Heating and Cooling Program has shown that there is a range of seemingly subtle design decisions that can impact significantly on the performance of solar cooling systems. In order to reduce the risk of errors in the design process, this guide provides detailed and very specific engineering design information. It focuses on case study examples of installed plants that have been monitored and evaluated over the last decade. For three successful plants the design process is described in detail and the rationale for each key design decision is explained. Numerical constraints are suggested for the sizing / selection parameters of key equipment items. Moreover, the application conditions under which the system selection is appropriate are discussed. By following The Guide for any of the three specific solar cooling systems, the designer can expect to reliably achieve a robust, energy-saving solution. This book is intended as a companion to the IEA Solar Cooling Handbook which provides a general overview of the various technologies as well as comprehensive advice to enable engineers to design their own solar cooling system from first principles.

Book Design and Testing a Solar Cooling System Employing Liquid Desiccants

Download or read book Design and Testing a Solar Cooling System Employing Liquid Desiccants written by Terry G. Lenz and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A nominal 3-ton (10.5-kw) lithium bromide, open-cycle desiccant cooling system has been designed, installed, and operated. This experimental system dehumidifies ambient air in a packed bed utilizing an aqueous solution of lithium bromide. The absorbent solution is distributed by spray nozzles and flows countercurrent to the air. The dilute solution exiting the dehumidifier is concentrated in a packed bed regenerator by solar heated air. The strong solution is cooled by two heat exchangers before reentering the dehumidifier. Provisions to simulate conditions of high ambient humidity and temperature have been made.
