Book Solar Collectors

Download or read book Solar Collectors written by Martín Picón-Núñez and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to provide an engineering point of view and the design tools for low temperature solar collectors, as well as their networks in large solar installations for the integration of solar energy in processing industries. To this end, the book covers the description of existing solar technology, performance enhancement techniques for single units, hydrodynamics and its influence on flow distribution inside tubes, its effect upon thermal efficiency and pressure drop profiles. A detailed graphical description of the thermo-hydraulic behavior using experimentally validated Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations are described. An important contribution is the introduction of the main concepts to design and specify the structure of solar collector networks based on the reconciliation of the thermal and hydraulic lengths. The thermal performance is analyzed as a function of the velocity of the fluid and its relation to the rate of heat transfer. Likewise, velocity is analyzed in connection to the pressure drop. This approach allows the engineer to determine the structure of a solar collector network, which is defined by two parameters: the number of parallel sets of collectors and the number of collectors per set to achieve the process thermal needs at the specified temperature within the limitations of the pressure drop. These tools are put forward within the frame of flexible plant operation.

Book Design Considerations for Solar Industrial Process Heat Systems

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document lists items that should be considered in each aspect of the design of a solar industrial process heat system. These design considerations are based on information obtained from the design and operation of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) solar industrial process heat field tests. The collector technologies covered are flat-plate, evacuated tube, and line focus, since these systems have been employed to date in the DOE field test program. This document should be highly informative to the designer lacking solar system experience, since a glossary of technical terms used in the report in included.

Book Taming the Sun

Download or read book Taming the Sun written by Varun Sivaram and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2019-02-26 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How solar could spark a clean-energy transition through transformative innovation—creative financing, revolutionary technologies, and flexible energy systems. Solar energy, once a niche application for a limited market, has become the cheapest and fastest-growing power source on earth. What's more, its potential is nearly limitless—every hour the sun beams down more energy than the world uses in a year. But in Taming the Sun, energy expert Varun Sivaram warns that the world is not yet equipped to harness erratic sunshine to meet most of its energy needs. And if solar's current surge peters out, prospects for replacing fossil fuels and averting catastrophic climate change will dim. Innovation can brighten those prospects, Sivaram explains, drawing on firsthand experience and original research spanning science, business, and government. Financial innovation is already enticing deep-pocketed investors to fund solar projects around the world, from the sunniest deserts to the poorest villages. Technological innovation could replace today's solar panels with coatings as cheap as paint and employ artificial photosynthesis to store intermittent sunshine as convenient fuels. And systemic innovation could add flexibility to the world's power grids and other energy systems so they can dependably channel the sun's unreliable energy. Unleashing all this innovation will require visionary public policy: funding researchers developing next-generation solar technologies, refashioning energy systems and economic markets, and putting together a diverse clean energy portfolio. Although solar can't power the planet by itself, it can be the centerpiece of a global clean energy revolution. A Council on Foreign Relations Book

Book Evolutionary Methods Based Modeling and Analysis of Solar Thermal Systems

Download or read book Evolutionary Methods Based Modeling and Analysis of Solar Thermal Systems written by Biplab Das and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-29 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents insights into the thermal performance of solar thermal collectors using both computational and experimental modeling. It consists of various computational and experimental case studies conducted by the authors on the solar thermal collector system. The authors begin by developing thermal modeling using a case study that shows the effect of different governing parameters. A few more experimental cases studies follow that highlight the energy, exergy, and environmental performance of the solar thermal collector system and to examine the performance of a modified solar collector system, illustrating performance improvement techniques. Finally, application of different evolutionary optimization techniques such as soft computing and evolutionary methods, like fuzzy techniques, MCDM methods like fuzzy logic based expert system (FLDS), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Grey relational analysis (GRA), Entropy-Jaya algorithm, Entropy-VIKOR etc. are employed.
